PeerReview Feedback

1) Positive point on the article: Well structured and neutral point of view. Also interesting are the point the article touch on. Specially the Aviation section. 2) Point to improve: I would change the title to : Artificial Intelligence applications. Also, the lead section need to be a bit more elaborated. Also, you can find a bit more article on the computer science section and try add more information, as I think there might be a lot of application in this field. 3)Overall very interesting, and I did not know about the application of AI in Aviation, good to know. Focus more on the leadsection I would say. Hananbechir (talk) 22:04, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Automated Insights [1] should be included in this section, having achieved notability in several reputable sources. Automated Insights turns Big Data patterns into narratives.[2] Automated Insights powers Yahoo Fantasy Football's personalized recaps and previews. Introduction -- too much about the AI effect

The introduction of this article seems to speak too much about the notion of the AI effect, and not necessarily about the applications of artificial intelligence. Furthermore, there is not much supporting evidence for the claim. The following sentence "However, due to the AI effect, many AI applications are not perceived as AI" makes a very strong claim that is not necessarily factual. There is a quote from Nick Bostrom afterwards that also supports this claim, again supporting a possibly biased viewpoint. The sentence "In the late 90s and early 21st century, AI technology became widely used as elements of larger systems,[2][3] but the field is rarely credited for these successes." continues this notion of the prominence of the AI effect. The introduction should be more focused on giving a brief overview on the applications of artificial intelligence. Alviniac (talk) 00:38, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Transportation

The work towards self driving cars by technology and automotive companies should be mentioned in this section with a hyperlink to the following article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_car

In the Media Today

I think it would be insightful to include an "In the Media Today" section where we write about the common misconceptions and discussion about AI. The revolving discussion between AI and Robotics is very common so we can talk about that, possible referencing 60 Minutes' scary interview with an AI machine 60 Minutes AI. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Salinatam (talkcontribs) 15:35, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Edit: The Future of AI in the classroom

Is it possible to add this edit in the said section, The Future of AI in the classroom?

AI in the classroom Many experts say the tangible value of Artificial Education is more than an ordinary tool that helps teachers improve the social skills and enthusiasm for learning of students. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/06/teaching-ai-in-schools-could-equip-students-for-the-future The forecast is AI in American education will increase by at least 47.5 percent from 2017 until 2021 based on the Artificial Intelligence Market in the US Education Sector. https://www.forbes.com/sites/bernardmarr/2018/07/25/how-is-ai-used-in-education-real-world-examples-of-today-and-a-peek-into-the-future/#6704e2a7586e

Missing the most successful interesting applications

This article misses some of the most important and interesting applications. These should be at the top of the article.

Important, ubiquitous, commercially successful applications:

  • Search engines (Google search)
  • Recommendation systems (YouTube, Amazon, Netflix) & internet traffic drivers.
  • Spam filters
  • Virtual assistants (Siri & Alexa)

Interesting applications:

  • Games: Deep Blue (Chess), Alpha Go (Go), Watson (Jeopardy)
  • Theorem proving & scientific reasoning: Logic Theorist, Automated Mathematician, and there's quite a few more.

Poor coverage:

  • Ad targeting is covered, but it doesn't really capture how important it is to society, politics, and everything else. It really should mention Adsense, Facebook and Google.

I'm hoping there's someone who wants to write this. ---- CharlesGillingham (talk) 09:59, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Removed mention of machine learning in lead

User:MrOllie removed the mention of machine learning in the lead, saying "misunderstands what this means".

I'd like to readd it as it makes up a large fraction of applications and some readers may not know much about it or that this also very widely referred to as "AI" (whether you agree with that or not). Maybe it could be phrased differently, but I think a mention/wikilink to machine learning should be in the lead.

I don't understand the explanation for the removal: the article machine learning even begins with "Machine learning (ML) is a field of inquiry devoted to understanding and building methods that 'learn', that is, methods that leverage data to improve performance on some set of tasks. It is seen as a part of artificial intelligence." Prototyperspective (talk) 16:59, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Many of the applications listed in the article are various sorts of expert systems, which may or may not have been implemented using machine learning methods. Much of the stuff in this article doesn't use learning - It is misleading to overemphasize learning methods in the opening sentence. - MrOllie (talk) 17:21, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good point, but then it would be good to name some of the major types of AI in the lead somewhere somehow (not just machine learning).
It could list the ones at the upper level of Outline of artificial intelligence#Goals and applications (or some of these), the different types can be vastly different and are somewhat lumped together under "artificial intelligence" about which the public perception is somewhat misleading – this is basically why I think adding some short clarification via examples of what is meant by "AI" would be due, useful and needed there.
Basically, saying "such as machine learning" demystifies the buzzword AI here by a bit and clarifies that these can be e.g. quite boring (to some / relatively) niche highly-specific algorithms many wouldn't describe as being related to "intelligence" at all, and not magical robots solving all problems.
For example, the lead uses the phrase "It has has been used in" (i.e. "It" rather than plural). Prototyperspective (talk) 21:03, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Needs reorganization

This article desperately needs to be reorganized, if not totally rewritten. Many of the current headings should be moved to different sections of the article or cut entirely to reduce the bloat and scattered focus of the article. I suggest consolidating into 3 or 4 main sections covering uses in Government, Industry, and Research, with many of the current sections as subsections within those categories. The current Media section may be justified by the recent interest in prompt-based AI-generated text and images. Behatted (talk) 20:23, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiedu assignment. Adding to media/art in regards to computer animation

Hey there. For an assignment given to me in school, I'm planning on editing this article by adding a sub header under the Art section in regard to AI in computer animation. I'll only state a few things here and there, referring to maybe 1-3 articles along the way. I'll mention AI's usage in the Japanese Netflix animated short film prompted here.
