Affair

Raised finger gesture at Downing Street

The biography page for Andrea Jenkyns will need to adequately summarise this MP's career at some point, without suppressing or diminishing relevant and significant events. Consider: (1) The UK hasn't previously experienced an elected representative showing open disrespect for the public / protestors, and in such a prominent and symbolic location (the entrance to Downing Street); (2) Andrea Jenkyns is significant for _this_ event; (3) While there are tendentious ways to describe what's significant about an MP, there are also neutral ways to describe such; (4) Wikipedia aims for neutrality, but this isn't a matter of leaving key facts out, or rendering them less visible (i.e. at the end of an entry). I agree with Smartse's edit summary in September 2022 that it doesn't merit an individual section. I feel it is better placed in the main "Parliamentary career" section as it is relevant to Andrea Jenkyns attending, as a parliamentarian, the resignation speech of Boris Johnson in Downing Street. Jenkyns said she should have shown more composure, but made the gesture as a response to what she said was a "baying mob". I think her "middle finger" gesture merits inclusion in the article, but it's not so highly important in my view that it requires an individual section devoted to it. Arron Banks campaign donation

In 2019 Jenkyns received campaigning money from the Brexit activist Arron Banks but the article omits this. Propose to add this fact to the ‘Parliamentary career’ section, again, unless there are any objections? Factvalue (talk) 09:09, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone know if she got a degree?

The text currently reads: "In her late thirties, Jenkyns studied for a degree in Economics from the Open University and for one in International Relations from the University of Lincoln.[9]". "Studied for" is usually - but by no means always - shorthand for ". . . was enrolled for but did not complete . . ." I'd like to know what the Minister's qualifications are. @Cross Reference: Did you look at the archived version? That opens fine for me and says Her recent studies – degrees in International Relations from Lincoln University and Economics from the Open University. Thanks. I went to her own website and found this sentence: "In her late-thirties Andrea decided to study Economics through the Open University and embarked upon a Degree in International Relations and Politics, graduating at the age of 40. Andrea balanced her studies alongside a busy working life." ^[1]I assume that an MP's own website is accurate - they really cannot afford to prevaricate there as it would quickly be used by their political foes if they did. No mention of Lincoln University, and I am kind of puzzled by the statement about the OU. Anyway I think we can clarify the article text accordingly. Can we please request that it is stated that Dame Andrea Jenkyns MP and Jack Lopresti MP have divorced in 2023. Can we also request this is removed from the wikipedia page - two years after it had been reported that she was in a relationship with him while he was still married to his first wife.[38][39]

Furthermore can the first paragraph in the Personal Life section go as follows: Jenkyns lives in Gildersome, West Yorkshire. Her son, Clifford, who was born in 2017 and named after her late father. She married Lopresti (the MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke in Bristol) in St Mary Undercroft in the Palace of Westminster on 22 December 2017, the pair divorced in 2023.
