The film was not the first to address the mistakes in planning the operation. The 1972 Thames TV documentary series The World At War dealt with it in one of the episodes and didn’t try to gloss over those mistakes. They spoke to several individuals who were involved in one capacity or another with the operation, and all of them were critical of the planning and maintained that had it been more thorough, the mission would likely have succeeded.

Need to support critical comment properly
It is valid and quite proper to criticise Ryan's account of the battle where appropriate. However Ryan is far from being alone in holding some negative views on Montgomery. Corelli Barnett in 'The Desert Generals' goes a lot further, and Norman Dixon in 'On the Psychology of Military Incompetence' isn't entirely complimentary. That said, if you are accusing a book of being 'skewed' as a result of a bias against Montgomery, as this article does, you do need to produce an example or two in support.--kscally 16:07, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

FYI
In the Daphne du Maurier article, she didn't like the way the film portrayed her late husband- just saying because it relates to the negative contrast of the work with the "hero" lit of the time. (I am Manytexts but can't log in for the minute) 110.32.227.35 (talk) 01:25, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
