Talk:2017 Houston Astros season

Way too quick (cheating allegations made in Nov. 2019) to come to such definite conclusions

For example:

"As a result, the Astros’ 2017 World Series title is now widely regarded as illegitimate, having been won by nefarious means."

And that is not yet known for sure. I really urge all of us. Let's take it step by step, getting a variety of solid references.FriendlyRiverOtter (talk) 22:52, 16 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is now outdated, as there is credible evidence that proves the 2017 sign-stealing scandal contributed to the team's championship. Cheating should be mentioned at top of page. AstralNomad (talk) 01:17, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Need to be upfront about cheating scandal, and not bury it under 'plain vanilla'

I can kind of see why someone wanted to add astericks. On a mobile device, the chart shows up after one single as if it's a perfectly normal, ordinary system. And it's not. This is the worse cheating scandal in decades. Or . . . most covered, with abundant references.

I say we lead with (1) championship, (2) same season as Hurricane Ike, and (3) major cheating scandal. To me, this is temperate and moderate.

And we're probably going to need to move the chart lower in the article. And if we put [Major cheating scandal] in brackets after we identify the Astros as the 2017, that may not be the worse idea in the world. FriendlyRiverOtter (talk) 17:41, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The cheating scandal was not revealed till several years later and has it's own article so giving it excessive attention on this page I don't think is necessary... we also cant really change the chart. The astericks do not belong as MLB has not added them. Spanneraol (talk) 00:46, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am not in favor of adding astericks. In fact, in the edit immediately before yours, I removed someone else's asterick:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2017_Houston_Astros_season&diff=943105802&oldid=943096556
But we need to be very upfront and matter-of-fact about the cheating scandal. Or, I guess Wikipedia loses just a little bit of credibility, and we don't need to. FriendlyRiverOtter (talk) 17:15, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Moving chart to postseason section

In a very real sense, the people we accuse of "vandalism" and "disruptive editing" are right, and we're wrong. We're presenting the chart as if it's a perfectly normal and ordinary season, and it just isn't.

We should at least move the chart downward. FriendlyRiverOtter (talk) 18:39, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Whether it is or not, we can't forget it. It kind of is just like every other season. It's a baseball season, for crying out loud. Even if it isn't, we shouldn't do that. They went through the season just like everyone else. I'm not saying the vandals are wrong, but they're making a mistake. And plus, look at the 1919 Chicago White Sox. We treat them the same way. Cheating Scandal should be higher up

There is no mention of the confirmed cheating scandal in the introduction. Given that there is credible proof that the sign-stealing scandal contributed to the team winning their championship, it should be higher up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AstralNomad (talkcontribs) 01:13, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yu Darvish was not tipping his pitches

It was later proven Yu Darvish was not tipping his pitches and his poor performance was a result of the sign stealing/cheating on the Astros behalf. This has been documented multiple times and confirmed by Darvish and acknowledged by MLB. 50.168.13.94 (talk) 18:05, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How does that account for his game 7 performance at Dodger Stadium? They could not have employed the sign stealing method there. Spanneraol (talk) 19:45, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
