Witnessed
I witnessed the crash; my dad was in the US Army and we lived in Frankfurt. My brother and I met some friends and caught the Sbahn and bus to Rhein Main for the show. The aircraft that crashed was the lead and had no wingtip fuel tanks, unlike the other CF-104s in the show. It broke away from the other aircraft, rolled over, and then flew towards the Waldstadion and crashed. The aircraft’s canopy appeared to be pointing towards the ground when the pilot objected. It was all very sudden with no warning. We all knew it was bad. The air show was immediately suspended and the flight line emptied. We didn’t find out about the Pastor and his family until the next day in the Stars and Stripes. It was incredibly sad. 66.199.199.215 (talk) 19:10, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
