Henry Tufnell [2] (born 19 June 1992) is a British Labour Party politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Mid and South Pembrokeshire since 2024.[3]

Background

Tufnell comes from a family of Gloucestershire landowners and attended Radley College. His father is the president of the Country Land and Business Association. His mother Rosina Jane Tufnell was born in Pontypridd and became High Sheriff of Gloucestershire.[2]

Tufnell qualified as a barrister in 2020. More recently he became an organiser for the non-TUC affiliated Cleaners and Allied Independent Workers’ Union.[2]

Political career

Tufnell stood in the 2018 Westminster City Council election in the Vincent Square Ward. He came 5th with 1,155 votes. [4]

In April 2023, Tufnell was selected by Welsh Labour to represent the new constituency of Mid and South Pembrokeshire. Concerns were raised that Tufnell was 'parachuted' in to the seat, rather than a local candidate being chosen.[2] He originally stood to be a Labour candidate in Colchester, Essex.[2]

In July 2024, Tufnell was elected as MP for Mid and South Pembrokeshire, with a majority of 1,878, defeating former Conservative Party minister Stephen Crabb.[5]

Athletics

Tufnell ran in the 800m and 1500m from 2010 to 2016. He competed in the 2016 British Athletics Championships 1500m race, coming in 11th place.[1][6] He represented Brown University as a member of their Cross Country team.[7]
