SRI, also known by the alias SRIZZY BEATS, (born December 6, 2000), is an Indian American trans woman and musician known for her work in hip-hop, pop, electronic, and alternative music genres.

Early Life and Education

SRI was born in Norwalk, Connecticut, and grew up in Trumbull, Connecticut. She attended the University of Connecticut (UCONN), where she earned a master's degree in engineering. From ages 9 to 17, she battled lymphoma, undergoing treatment at Yale and Johns Hopkins, and ultimately beat cancer five times. SRI has one younger sister and was raised by her two parents.

Her musical journey began in the first grade with piano lessons, which continued even during her chemotherapy treatments when teachers came to her house. She later learned to play the guitar in the fifth grade, the trumpet in the sixth grade, and the drums in the tenth grade. She later joined her high school's marching band, performing everywhere from MetLife Stadium to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Musical Career

SRI's musical career encompasses a wide range of genres, including hip-hop, pop, electronic, and alternative music. She has performed at notable events such as New York Fashion Week 2024 for Phantom Pleat and organized and played a headline set at Wonderville in Brooklyn.[1][2]

SRI collaborates with Ultrapop Records, a collective of trans musicians who connected through TikTok. She also works closely with Bobby Sanchez and Dante Phantom, both trans women she met in the New York creative scene.

She has released an EP titled GODDESS COMPLEX and continues to work on her next EP while releasing singles. Her recent single, NOSTALGIA, was released on June 1.[3][4][5][6][7][8]

Personal Life

SRI came out as a trans woman at the age of 20, facing challenges in gaining acceptance from her family and friends. Despite these challenges, she has become an advocate for the trans community, organizing events that center and celebrate trans identities.

SRI is dedicated to paving the way for the next generation of trans musicians. She has been featured in an interview on Culture Chords on Spotify, where she discusses her journey and experiences as a trans musician.[9]

She is recognized for her contributions to music and her efforts to create inclusive spaces for the trans community.[6][7]

SRI has amassed followings on both TikTok and Instagram under the name @srizzybeats and continues to advocate for her community and release genre bending songs that showcase her explorative nature.
