The New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture is the Secretary of Agriculture for New Jersey. The Secretary of Agriculture heads the New Jersey Department of Agriculture and is apart of the New Jersey Governor's cabinet. This position has been around since 1916 with the founding of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture by Governor James Fielder.[1][2] The current Secretary of Agriculture for New Jersey is Edward D Wengryn, appointed by Governor Phil Murphy in March of 2024.[3][4][5]

Role

The role of the New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture is to head the New Jersey Department of Agriculture and to see that it is doing its job in helping with agriculture. This can be through planning how to help the agriculture market or struggling businesses centered around agriculture, to even helping with healthy meals in New Jersey's schools and educating those in school about agriculture.[6][7]
