Yazan Al Bawwab (Arabic: يزان البواب; born 30 October 1999) is a Palestinian swimmer. He was born in Saudi Arabia, and is half Italian; he has both Palestinian and Italian citizenship, and lives in Canada. He competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and qualified to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Early and personal life

Al-Bawwab was born in Saudi Arabia, and is half Italian.[1] He grew up in Dubai in the United Emirates, and holds both Palestinian and Italian citizenship.[2] Al-Bawwab is an engineering alumni Carleton University in Ottawa.[2][3] He is currently living in Ottawa, Canada.[2]

Swimming career

Al-Bawwab was one of five Palestinians who represented Palestine in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021. He competed in the men's 100 meter freestyle, coming in 66th out of 71 swimmers, at the Tokyo Aquatics Center.[4]

As of 2021 he held the Palestinian record in both the 50 and 100 metre freestyle events.[2] He is also the Arab champion in the 50 and 100 backstroke after winning both events at Arab Games 2023.[citation needed]

He was selected to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the 100m backstroke.[5]
