removed from discussion at Oppose !Vote #1

  1. You do realize that without any rationale at all, your opinion will hold no weight when the RfA is closed? --The Σ talkcontribs 00:41, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Er, I would not suggest laying into any of the opposes like that. FWIW, we could apply that same rational to the supports. :P Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:46, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Amusing. Like your logic Nolelover! OrangeMarlin Talk• Contributions 00:59, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We'd better stop this before it gets out of hand. Either take it to a talk page or stop altogether. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 01:02, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you're talking about what he said to me, I took it as a compliment, so no problems here. Just trying to calm things down. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 01:06, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely a compliment Nolelover. I never answer these questions, so not sure why it was asked. OrangeMarlin Talk• Contributions 01:07, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Come on, y'all. Feel the love. If you need to spin up at anyone do it to me. I get off on it! TCO (talk) 01:13, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm stepping away now... --The Σ talkcontribs 01:13, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You know what a sadist does to a masochist? TCO (talk) 01:24, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Reign it in, TCO-- inappropriate. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 09:10, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

--Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:10, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lighten up Sandy. I'm as concerned about this candidacy as you are, but picking unnecessary fights with other editors will only lead to unnecessary drama which might distract from the matters at hand. Miss E. Lovetinkle (talk) 09:24, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As an oppose vote with no rationale is not harming the candidate very much (unlike, say, a "neutral" comment with some out-of context diffs that supposedly show the candidate's poor judgement: other people will use that as a reason to vote oppose), it is usually good for the candidate if no oppose rationales are given. And that is independent of the question whether the bureaucrats will count the vote or not. (They should: "I do not trust the candidate, but want others to make up their own mind about him/her instead of considering what I think" is a perfectly good reason to oppose without making the reason public). —Kusma (t·c) 07:05, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

...for anyone not watching his page, it appears he has also retired. Damnit -- Nolelover Talk·Contribs 18:30, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

^ What he said. --The Σ talkcontribs 20:43, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's always the same. A good user tries for adminship once, fails, tries again, fails again, and retires. It's a shame to see Wikipedia's finest go this way. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 20:48, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it seems to happen a lot more when a user has accidentally made copyvios. I am reminded of former arbitrator Rlevse. And there's multiple other examples of users retiring when copyvios are found. Hopefully, he'll return soon enough. SilverserenC 21:22, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Yes indeed...Although, in fairness to Guoguo, I don't think he left so much because of what the opposes said (copyvio concerns), as much as the whole personal info/borderline WP:outing thing. He's a smart chap. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 21:25, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • This whole "copyvio" and "close paraphrasing" thing needs a better review. If a source says "John Brown died in 1885" there's precious few other ways of writing that John Brown died in 1885 yet Sandy Georgia [PA removed by K.W.] will call you on it [ditto]. Nevertheless SG made some fair points in this instance, and I don't dispute her oppose as such - but the vitriolic way she made it was exceptionally disgusting, for many reasons; however this is not the venue to use to discuss that (if indeed there is any venue). Pedro :  Chat  21:37, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Outing! When did that happen??? --The Σ talkcontribs 21:47, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    It's been deleted. 28bytes (talk) 21:51, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • The issues SandyGeorgia brought up were much more specific than "John Brown died in 1885", and yes there are ways of not using the language in the source. SandyGeorgia's concerns were valid given that the material ended up on the main page. I don't see it as being vitriolic - it is what it is, and there's no good way to say to someone, "hey you need to take care in how you present your material". The copyvio/plagiarism issue is a learning curve that's sometimes difficult, but nonetheless a Wikipedia policy and not one to be unaware of while seeking adminship. Truthkeeper88 (talk) 21:56, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Disagree (and clearly I was using the John Brown bit as an obvious artifice to make a point). There's plenty of ways to say to someone "hey you need to take care in how you present your material" because you just did it yourself Truthkeeper!! - tactfully and with restraint. SG [ditto] invoked hyperbole, [ditto] actions which were utterly unwaranted. The fact she suspected that the candidate was a minor, indeed used it as part of her oppose rationale, just shows [ditto] slowly making it less fun for the rest of us. However, I repeat, this is not the venue to discuss that; I suspect there will never be a venue to discuss her [ditto] to be honest. Pedro :  Chat  22:07, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I removed personal attacks against SG, many of which made sexist insinuations, per WP:NPA.  Kiefer.Wolfowitz 16:53, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly you clearly have no clue about what constitutes sexist commentary, so don't you ever accuse me of that again. That's disgusting and an egregious personal attack in it's own right - though I imagine the irony of that will be missed by you.. Secondly the lack of a note to tell me you'd refactored my comments also says a great deal about your character - and yet again shows you in a very poor light. Pedro :  Chat  17:35, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Pedro, my failure promptly to notify you of my removing your personal attacks against SG indicates my former belief (now verified knowledge) about your monitoring this page.
Pedrillo, your PAs included two sexist innuendos, which are noted on my talk page. After repeatedly insulting an editor who had announced her travel-plans and not edited since, you emboldened ever! Am I to be alarmed? *LOL*  Kiefer.Wolfowitz 17:57, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please have some respect for Guogo12, whose RfA talkpage this is, and take this elsewhere. Please. Truthkeeper88 (talk) 17:59, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry - just realised KF is a 4chan troll - my mistake for getting sucked [into an unproductive distraction]. Pedro :  Chat  18:58, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My sense is that this is creating unnecessary drama when drama should be avoided. My sense is that it's time to drop the stick, and take it up directly with SandyGeorgia if you feel so strongly. Anyway, myself, I'll drop it. Truthkeeper88 (talk) 22:35, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sysop tools have nothing to do with content creation. As far as I am aware the bundle does not include an "add plagiarism button". I think that the allegation of plagiarism etc was irrelevant, and should have been made, if at all, in a different forum. James500 (talk) 13:55, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Leaving aside the whole content creation debate, adding text which is potentially copyvio (I haven't checked whether it is in this case) would provide a good reason to oppose. Per WP:ADMIN: "Administrators are expected to lead by example and ... to follow Wikipedia policies". Relevant policies would include WP:V and WP:CV, and plagiarism does not qualify as leading by example. Nikkimaria (talk) 15:50, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alright guys, what's done is done. Guoguo's gone, and this convo isn't helping anybody. Can I ask you to take it to your talk pages? Nolelover Talk·Contribs 16:06, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I think James500 view is a bit myopic; but agree maybe this is not the place. The RfA talkpage, however, would be a very appropriate place to discuss this issue, imo. Truthkeeper88 (talk) 16:19, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
