Comments from Cryptic C62

Before I critique the article, I'd like to point out that after reading your nomination statement, I can safely say that you have exactly the right attitude required for the FAC process: Persistence, positoovity, and a genuine desire to see the article improve rather than simply be promoted. Even if it doesn't pass this time around, just keep hacking away at it, friend. You'll get there. Anywho, here are some comments on the lead:

  • "with a range from 7,400 to 13,430 kilometres (4,000 to 7,250 nmi) depending on variant." Not sure what this means. Perhaps "variant" is supposed to be "the variant"? Or perhaps "variant" is a jargon word that means "weight" or "load"?
  • Airbus A330-200 is a different variant from Airbus A330-300. The -200 has more range, but the -300 has a bigger passenger capacity. Now do you understand the context?
  • "Airbus began studying derivatives of its A300 in the 1970s before moving to larger designs and launching the new A330 and A340 in June 1987." Why does this sentence include the word "new"? If they were launched in 1987, there's nothing new about them now. There's also no reason to state that they were new then, as this is implied in the word "launched".

  • "The aircraft was the first Airbus airliner to offer a choice of three engine types:" I find this phrasing odd because it's not clear who is being offered the choice. The manufacturer? The airline? The passenger? Perhaps it would be better to swap out "to offer a choice of three engine types" with "with three different engine types available".

*There is an inconsistency between "A330-300" (hyphenated) and "−200 variant" (en dash). I haven't looked at the entire article, but this inconsistency may be pervasive throughout, so be sure to give the article a good sweep.

  • I think they're isolated cases. User Ohconfucius went around with his scripts and changed some of the hyphens into dashes.
  • I see now that the system that is currently in place is that full variant names with both numbers are hyphenated, whereas single numbers are preceded by en dashes. I think these should use the same punctuation mark. --Cryptic C62 · Talk 00:47, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

*"and will be introducing the 787 Dreamliner." When?

  • The aircraft is slated to enter service this year, but it is not known exactly when. The aircraft is still undergoing testing.
  • If the statement is to be included, some information about the time frame must be given, even if it's just "in 2011".
  • Done!

That's it for readability. I will check the balancing some time in the next couple of days. right now: *There is no material in the lead that summarizes Accidents and incidents. If a topic is notable enough to be given a level one section, then it is notable enough to appear in the lead.

  • Finished summary.

*The lead should answer the question "What are some major airlines that employ the A330?"

  • I've only added Delta Air Lines as the largest operator, because if I add more, it would be to detailed.

That's it for the lead. --Cryptic C62 · Talk 02:45, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
