The Voice of Reason (Greek: Φωνή Λογικής, romanized: Foní Logikís, FL) is a far-right,[3][4][5][6][7][8][9] ultraconservative[10] political party in Greece. It was established in 2023 by Afroditi Latinopoulou, a lawyer and former tennis athlete.[11][12]

The party was originally founded as "Homeland" (Greek: Πατρίδα, romanized: Patrída), but was excluded from the May 2023 Greek legislative election by the Supreme Court due to a dispute over the name and symbol of the Patriotic Force for Change (PATRIDA) party, to which Latinopoulou had previously belonged.[13][14] The party was subsequently renamed and took part in the snap June 2023 Greek legislative election, receiving 0.43% of the vote. In the 2024 European Parliament election, it received just over the electoral threshold of 3%, electing its leader Afroditi Latinopoulou as an MEP.[15]

Ideology

The party leader has repeatedly sparked controversy with her views on womanhood, victim-blaming, and human rights, which many Greek media outlets have condemned as hate speech.[7][16] A notable incident occurred in 2022 when she was banned from running with New Democracy after making fatphobic[10] remarks about Greek TV presenter Danai Barka.[17][18] In 2021, in a similar controversial incident she compared homosexuality to pedophilia.[19][20]

Although the party's manifesto lacks information on economic policy, Latinopoulou's ideology is often described as nationalist[21] and far-right, a label she rejects.[22] She advocates for anti-abortion rights,[23] opposes LGBTQ rights,[5] and has expressed transphobic[24][25][26][27] and anti-immigration views,[28] repeatedly calling for the borders to be closed.[29] She expressed her desire to work with other European far-right leaders, including Marine Le Pen or Giorgia Meloni.[30]

In June 2024, she was mentioned in the list of the 23 most controversial new MEPs in European Parliament, compiled by Politico.[23]
