A note on using refs

Hi, and thanks for your efforts on Crystal Pite.

One thing that'll help a lot is knowing that you can define a ref once, name it, and then reuse it. This is done by writing something like <ref name="Ballet BC">{{cite web | ...}}</ref> for the definition, note the name; and then <ref name="Ballet BC"/> wherever you want to reuse the same ref, note the closing / which says "no definition follows, look elsewhere for that".

BTW you just over-wrote several of my refs... I guess you are using a text editor and then pasting the text to replace chunks of the article? That can be convenient, but it can lead to accidental reversion of recent changes. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:34, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There are still uncited statements (paragraphs that don't end with a citation, for instance) in the article. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:42, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

And punctuation always goes before refs, unspaced:

....... end.[1] --- correct

....... end [2]. --- wrong

Hope this helps. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:46, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Crystal Pite

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Crystal Pite you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Chiswick Chap -- Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:21, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Less formally, hi, welcome to Wikipedia, and good on you for going for a GA. The process is unbureaucratic and informal, and I'll do whatever I can to help you on your way, so feel free to ask me (or anyone else) for advice and assistance. The key thing that's missing is critical discussion in published books or academic articles about Pite, so a good place to start will be a library or bookshop. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:46, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi ! Thanks for the help with the article and going forward with the review.Zochawk (talk) 15:48, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you feel positive about it. It would be useful if you could respond on the GA review page, Talk:Crystal Pite/GA2, to indicate that we are making progress. The usual approach is to state under each item that it is done, as soon as you believe you have fixed that one, and I'll respond either by striking out that item or if need be by restating it more clearly. That works best for small items; on the larger ones, it may be best to make a brief statement of your intention and timescale, e.g. 'I intend to add some material from Doe 2017 to fix this by 25 August.' All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:53, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Copy-paste page move

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Wen Wei Wang a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Draft:Wen Wei Wang. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. --Mirokado (talk) 14:30, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for your help! I am new to Wikipedia and still trying to make sense of how it works. If I understand what you are saying correctly, I should do this move action on the Draft:Wen Wei Wang page to the original page I created? I created the new draft page because I did not think I was able to publish the original page I created for whatever reason. I want to publish the page and do so correctly, can you help? Thanks! Zochawk (talk) 16:47, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I attempted to request a move for the page since it wouldn't let me do it myself since the page Draft: Wen Wei Wang already exists (because I created it). Now it is coming up with multiple errors and I am unable to request a move. Please help.Zochawk (talk) 16:55, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Attempted deletion

Information icon Hello, I'm CLCStudent. I noticed that you recently removed content from Wen Wei Wang without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. CLCStudent (talk) 16:59, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I deleted the page because I accidentally created two of the same page in an attempt to publish it. I created this original page that for some reason I was not able to publish and then copy and pasted the content into Draft:Wen Wei Wang which I have published for review with the same content. I am unable to merge or move this page into Draft:Wen Wei Wang so I thought to just delete it since it already exists.

  • Hello Zochawk and user:CLCStudent: we can sort this out! Probably the histmerge I left on the draft would have done the trick, I was thinking while doing some shopping since that a move request on the article would have been better, since there is no significant history on the current draft which would need to be maintained. I will add the move request and leave any other notes which seem necessary. --Mirokado (talk) 19:13, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • It seems better to use the existing histmerge request (diff showing the updated request) where many moves from main to draft are handled, than to use a move request. Please let the administrator who handles that request do whatever seems appropriate before editing the files again. --Mirokado (talk) 19:56, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Anthony Appleyard has now moved the mainspace version to draft. You will need to hit the submit button on the AFC dialog at the top of the article to again submit it for review. I tweaked the section heading here so the related sections will get archived together if you ever enable that... --Mirokado (talk) 22:38, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for all of your help, much appreciated! Zochawk (talk) 23:33, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
