Don't worry

Hi! I see you wrote at the Teahouse that you "don't edit Wikipedia because you're worried you'll do so incorrectly style/rule-wise or maybe introduce errors". I just want to tell you that you should not worry. We all make errors, and making errors is actually a very good way to learn more about editing Wikipedia. If you do something incorrectly, somebody else will surely notice that, and the mistake will be resolved. Just go on and try it. Korean back in GoogleTrans Gadget

Korean has been put back in as a language. Only tables were changed, no code changes. Please let me know if there are any problems. Thanks for pointing out its ommission

Oh, yea, Internet research say I can't put PinYin into the GoogleTrans popup because Google doesn't support that through its API (only its website). It would be a good idea though and I'll keep on looking for it, when it comes out.

Awesome! Thank you! :D It's working, including translating whole sentences~ (When I 1st tried a few days ago, sentences didn't seem to appear. I didn't try that feature much, tho, so I guess I hovered over text wrong or something :P, especially since you didn't make other code changes~)
Too bad about the PinYin/pronunciation part, but it's okay~ Thanks for looking in to it! Maybe that'll help to make me study more often, but I still hope Google allows for it someday~

Thanks for noticing that Korean was missing.

You're welcome to try out the private version of the gadget: GoogleTrans-Speak, which does Karaoke Text To Speech of selected sentences, as well as translation of them. Simply go through the Portal (URL below) to a wikipedia page, then double click on a word beginning a sentence that is not in a link. Unfortunately, it might not be for you since the Korean demo voice went out of licence. I do have a public source Chinese voice attached, but the Karaoke might not be up to scratch, like it is for other languages. You're welcome to try out the webpage, since I am always looking for people to try it out:

Thanks! :D I tried it for Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, and Korean, and felt Japanese sounded best and then Chinese. You're right about the Korean voice, as the current one might be better-suited to beginners learning to read Korean writing, but not much else for that voice at the moment (but I'll definitely check back on it!). Also, sometimes the karaoke/highlighting would lag behind the voice, but I assume it's more due to my computer being very slow and my RAM is full of lots of browser tabs. ^^;; I very much like this idea and it reminds me of WebAnywhere, and I hope both can continue to add features~ I will certainly continue to test it~:) Keep up the awesome work! ^O^)/

Thanks for trying out GoogleTrans-Speak. You're more of a trailblazer regarding it, than you realise. The Korean probably has a precursor speech (due to demo licence) and may only say "Thanks for using...". The Japanese too. I'm currently using EHKO by Cameron Wu of China. It's a nice Open Source standard of Chinese, but I don't think the Karaoke effect is working right now for it. Sometimes, the browser does lag as far as the Karaoke effect goes. Try English, French, or Spanish. It should be okay there. If you have more than one browser tab both on the GoogleTrans-Speak page, that does screw it up. Thanks again. I've looked a bit at your pinyin request for GoogleTrans. As it turns out I can't do it for the wikipedia Gadget, but I probably will be able to do it for my private version of the gadget. Google does have a call that returns pinyin but it
1) it isn't returned as a script element (which the wiki gadget needs)
2) you need to make a ajax call to a base website and this website needs to do a perl http request to get the information, and then to return it to the webpage.
I'm pretty sure it will work on the private version, and it would be a good thing to do. Give me around 2 weeks and I'll tell you how it goes. Endo999 (talk) 04:31, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
First draft of romanisation on my private test version of the GoogleTrans gadget has happened. For languages with spaces (like Korean) the romanisation works well. For Chinese I've put in some special code that needs work. For Japanese I just print the romanised text without intersplicing with the japanese text. So if you translate from Russian to Chinese there will be two romanised sets of speech at the end of the translation (This doesn't work on text to speech, just on translation -- point cursor, hit shift key). The private test version is at:

It doesn't seem to be possible to do on the Wikipedia gadget but I'll see what I can come up with.

I've got something working on a private version of the Wikipedia Gadget. I don't think it will ever really make it into the main gadget, but if you include in your vector.js file (if you have the vector skin)

and, before this, you unload my GoogleTrans gadget in preferences. Remember to reload the browser after all these changes. After these things you should be able to get my new romanisation behavior in the translation popups. Thanks for suggesting the addition. It will definitely be a good one.

Writing your name in other scripts

In Arabic, it's زنف. (You read it from right to left. Those are the letters for Z-N-F. Arabs don't usually write vowels.) Equinox ◑ 16:37, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also, according to this guy's [2] translation of the Book of Mormon into Hebrew, the Hebrew rendering of Zeniff is זֶניף. I can't confirm it because I don't know the language, but it looks plausible. Similar to Arabic, the reading (from right to left) would be ZE (the three dots underneath are the E-vowel) + N + Y + F. Equinox ◑ 23:52, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you again! :) Btw, I met a scholar and Kurdish teacher from Iraq once, and he said the name sounds Arabic or Hebrew (I don't recall whether he said one or the other, or both).
