Orphaned non-free media (Image:Hot-Truck-Logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Hot-Truck-Logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:05, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Xtreambar - Hbent deleted a ton of redlinked articles [I spot checked it, they may have all been redlinks]. I sort of feel his edit should stand because the number of redlinks on that page has been bugging me a for a long time. What do you think? cOrneLlrOckEy (talk) 11:27, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cornell FAR

Cornell University has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:05, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with File:Cornell History logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Cornell History logo.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 20:06, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Degree programs at Duke University

I have nominated Degree programs at Duke University, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Degree programs at Duke University. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. THF (talk) 03:12, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Barnstar for the Cornell University Wikiproject

The WikiProject Barnstar
You are currently one of the most prolific contributors to the Cornell University WikiProject. I haven't been involved with the project for very long, but most listed editors seem to be inactive, and so it's great to see someone carrying on the torch. --Notyourbroom (talk) 19:05, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I was very busy for a while doing international finance (shoooooot me), then working on the Obama campaign, and most recently applying to international relations grad school. Now, my schedule has cleared up, I'm into grad school, and I need to something to keep my mind off of the 7 outstanding application decisions I'm still waiting to hear back on. So, from time to time, I continue to edit Wikipedia in addition to other pursuits. Check out User:Xtreambar/Nobel, which I started throwing together this morning, and Cornell University Department of History which I put together last year. In an ideal Wiki-world, I'd love most to see the List of Cornell University people cleaned-up, but my various ideas for it kept getting shot down. --Xtreambar (talk) 19:44, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New image of McGraw Hall

McGraw Hall. Not pictured: Happiness

Just wanted to let you know that I've put up another image of McGraw Hall. It definitely wasn't taken under ideal conditions and looks depressing as hell, but I don't think any other straight-on shots of the eastern side have been uploaded yet. --Notyourbroom (talk) 21:10, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice Ivy League Snobbery

I noticed that you created the redirect from ZooMass to University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I find this quite humorous, given your background. You should quit bashing state schools... many of your professors at Cornell probably were undergraduates at state schools like UMass (or as you call it, ZooMass).Uberpwner23 (talk) 18:01, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The drama with Uberpwner23

Hi,

Assuming this hasn't been resolved already by the time you read this, I urge you to look into what happened with Uberpwner23 (talk · contribs). He ended up perma-blocked, and while he definitely broke a few rules, I don't think the severe punishment was warranted. I tried to write up what I could figure out on his talk page. —Notyourbroom (talk) 01:48, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So, I went back and read the editor's contribution history. He made a couple valid edits...and then went off the deep end? Oy. --Xtreambar (talk) 03:19, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes—immature behavior ("I'll prove that ZooMass is offensive! I'll just change every mention of UMass to ZooMass!") and all from not assuming good faith in the first place. But because there was a clear impetus for his actions (the misunderstanding) and because he had never shown disruptive behavior before, I'm trying to appeal to the admins that the selected punishment is incongruous to the infraction. Looks like the admins aren't budging until the guy writes up an explanation or apology or something of his own accord. I guess there's no need for you to get further involved; I'll just leave a message on the guy's talk page and let him know it's all in his hands. —Notyourbroom (talk) 03:51, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:AD White Sarcophagus Cropped.JPG

Thanks for uploading File:AD White Sarcophagus Cropped.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 00:06, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AD White Library

I have quite a backlog of photos that I haven't yet processed or selected for uploading to Commons. One recent photoshoot was of the AD White Library:

AD White Library

If you would like me to upload the full-resolution versions of any of those, just let me know which one(s).

(I know that a number of them need some straightening and post-processing—those are just the unedited images fresh off the camera.)

Notyourbroom (talk) 19:26, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the pictures. I always did love the AD White library as an undergrad; my favorite place to read on campus was curled up in one of the leather chairs near the fireplace.
I am happy with the progress I am making on the Andrew Dickson White article. Now that I have my Yale NetID, I can finally log into their system and access any darn periodical database I want. Quite a bit, of course, still needs to be done. Rather than re-write the entire thing behind the scenes, I'm taking a section at a time and revamping it. What are your thoughts on doing so many edits at a time on the main article rather than doing most of the work behind the scenes? It was just so bad to begin with that I want to replace it with better content ASAP. --Xtreambar (talk) 19:41, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

University involvement in editing?

Check out Cornell-owc (talk · contribs)... The account basically whitewashed David J. Skorton using copyrighted text from a Cornell website. Something to keep an eye on, I think. You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:45, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:CornellDailySun.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:CornellDailySun.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:36, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Dragon Day Unknown 1.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Dragon Day Unknown 1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 16:56, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Notability Vouching

Hi, we're currently working on an assignment for a Cornell class where we have to create a Wikipedia article; we have chosen to create an article for Cornell Concert Commission. We're looking for people to help with the article and also to voche for its notability to prevent deletion. We feel that with the sources we have (NYT), it should meet the threshold of notability worthy of an article. Thanks for any and all help. Kl462 (talk) 02:40, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
