Family medical emergency... hope to be back in a few weeks, maybe not... Xoloz (talk) 18:05, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hope everything works out okay. Best wishes! - Operknockity (talk) 18:45, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aplix

I'm trying to view the Aplix article you deleted. I would like to help recover it. I can't figure how to see the content you deleted. According to your contribs you are active, so I a little mystified why you claim you're "retired". Kind regards Hendry (talk) 13:08, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you deleted an article improperly

I think you deleted my little bit on Kuder Occupational Inventory a while back, thinking that it's an advertisement. You should have consulted with experts in psychology. It's a standard inventory, one of only two or three such inventories in common use. It's listed in any textbook on Tests & Measurement or Psychological Assessment. It is also a historic instrument. This is equivalent to deleting the entry on the Stanford-Binnet, because the venerable intelligence test is also a commercial product, or deleting an article about Ford Lincoln because it's made by the Ford company. Rewording the article to minimize reference to its commercial nature would have been more appropriate than deleting it. The source has now been lost and the readers will not be able to find out about it from Wikipedia. When the Google it, they will be directed to the commercial page of the people who sell it instead. That's hardly a service to the Wikipedia community. I won't put in the effort to recreate it.

Sorry to see

Although we officially "hate" each other, I was truly sad to see what you wrote on here and your userpage, and I hope that this emergency for your family swiftly ends. Kind regards, Majorly (talk) 20:50, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't hate you at all, and I also hope things work out for you and your loved ones. <eleland/talkedits> 20:57, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I too am so very sorry to hear this. I hope everything works out okay in real life (though real life is all too wont to do otherwise) and we find you back sooner than later. Not to get corny, but I think of you as something of a mentor here, someone who's keen mind has done more than you give yourself credit for in keeping this place sane. Whatever happens, know that your work here has been really genuinely appreciated and admired. --JayHenry (talk) 21:07, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry too, and I hope everything sorts itself out soon. You're one of our best Wikipedians. Acalamari 21:27, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to hear about this. :( I hold you and your work on Wikipedia in the highest esteem, and I hope things will change for the better for you in real life. Take care, - PeaceNT (talk) 10:26, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Xoloz, I know I haven't spoken to you as of recent days (it's been a while), but I have seen you around quite a bit lately - I guess it is what we all take for granted around here. Take care man. I hope you will be back. JungleCat Shiny!/Oohhh! 04:49, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing you go is a great loss for Wikipedia and the community, and it is very saddening that it is because of an emergency. I really do hope that all goes well, and that you will be back in action some day. Wikipedia needs people like you, for you have always been one of the people who people listen to, and value the opinion of. Even when I have disagreed with you (and we have in fact disagreed on numerous occasions, especially on RFA nominations), you have consistently respected the other side of the argument, all while providing arguments yourself which can be appreciated even if one doesn't agree with them. That is a quality I strongly admire in a contributor and administrator. Sjakkalle (Check!) 07:12, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry to hear about your family emergency. I hope you mean "retired" in a Michael Jordan-sort-of-way and will eventually return. "Best Wishes," 12 Noon  01:30, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hope everything works out okay for you. Take care man.Lancet (talk) 17:34, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Me too. I hope things get better. Shalom (HelloPeace) 00:23, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll pray for you, hope your family is going to be okay. Saksjn (talk) 14:25, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering what had happened to you, given the fact that we've recently had some real dweebs, including me, closing MfDs, and just now saw why you've been gone. If you ever do return, believe me, it well be more than appreciated. But whether you do or not, I very sincerely hope and pray that the situation resolves itself comparatively quickly and favorably, and, whether you ever return or not, that you continue to be as successul and highly regarded in the "real world" as you have been here. John Carter (talk) 21:32, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My Rfa

I wish to thank you for being supportive of my effort to regain my adminship. Though it was not successful, your support was still very much appreciated. I certainly hope there is improvement for the health concerns your family seems to be having...best wishes.--MONGO 18:09, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Best regards

Just dropped by for something and saw your message. All the best pal. Hiding T 23:13, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative to spoiler template?

Hi, I saw in the DRV for the spoiler template you mentioned a limited alternative, what is it? Thanks. --AW (talk) 06:24, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recreation of deleted article in a thin disguise

WikiProject Kosovo

You (quite rightly) closed Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject Kosovo as a deletion last month, but without prejudice as to its recreation in a new and less POV form. I thought I'd give you a heads-up that I'm planning to do just that - since Kosovo is likely to declare independence in the next few days or weeks, a project is badly needed so that necessary changes (and the inevitable flood of vandalism) can be dealt with in a coordinated fashion. I'll sponsor the project myself and ensure that editors from both sides of the debate - as well as neutrals - are on board. -- ChrisO (talk) 22:01, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have taken the liberty of quoting your closing statement on the above MfD, although not by name, in a merge discussion on another "fauna" page; see here or this diff. I am notifying you so that if you disagree with my interpretation of your remarks, you can say so. (Or if you agree, you can say that too.) 6SJ7 (talk) 20:47, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just found this one too: Wikipedia:WikiKnight. Both WikiZenMaster and WikiKnight were created after your closing statement. These denizens seem to have gone forth and added, if not multiplied. Perhaps it is time for at least a limited "extinction event". Any thoughts? 6SJ7 (talk) 21:00, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Avraham RfB

If participation in 80 RfA/RfB's is insufficient evidence of participation, how many would you hypothetically require? Avruch T 17:21, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not actually the candidate in this case - thats User:Avraham. Avruch T 21:32, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DRV for you

It isn't ready yet, as it just started today, but can you try to hop online to close Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2008 February 29#Wikipedia:Delegable proxy when the time comes. This one is a bit more contentious than many. GRBerry 23:23, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I'm still pretty darn active, thank you very much. The admin bit is utterly irrelevant. (I think I've proved that quite solidly by not having used it since 2005, don't you think? ;-) )
The reason I've been acting the way I have is to prevent a much bigger SNAFU at a later date. But these days Wikipedia is like the Titanic. You can see the iceberg up ahead, but the darn community Just. Will. Not. Turn.
Anyway, since I handed off responsibility for this, I can't very well criticize the people I handed it off to publicly. All I can do is cross my fingers and hope things turn out sane.
Have a nice day! ;-)

Are you back?

I'm going to reacreate this page. It's a novel by a major author and is definetely notable. When I get a chance I'll add references. Just letting you know cause you deleted the last one. Saksjn (talk) 14:27, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My RfB

I wanted to personally thank you, Xoloz, for your participation in my recent RfB. I especially wanted to thank you for taking the time to clearly articulate your concerns, and help me better understand the community's desires about their bureaucrats albeit on user:Avruch's page ; I appreciate your patience and your clarity. I have heard the community's voice that they require more of a presence at RfA's of prospective bureaucrats, and I will do my best over the near future to demonstrate such a presence and allow the community to see my philosophy and practices in action. I am thankful and appreciative that in general, the community feels that I am worthy of the trust it requires of its bureaucrats, and I hope to continue to behave in a way that maintains your trust in me and my actions. I hope that over the near future, you will become comfortable and satisfied with my understanding of the particulars and subtleties inherent in the RfA process, and that I may be able to count on your support when I decide to once again undergo an RfB. If you have any suggestions, comments, or constructive criticisms, please let me know via talkpage or e-mail. Thank you again. -- Avi (talk) 17:33, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My request for bureaucratship

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Boss of All Bosses', by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Boss of All Bosses' is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Boss of All Bosses', please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Deleted talk archive

Hi, I just noticed that last december, you deleted Talk:Mongols/Archive 01 citing "CSD G8: Talk page where main page does not exist". I don't think that criterion applies to talk archive pages though, as the "main page" in this case would be Mongols, which never moved. Could you please restore that archive again? --Latebird (talk) 17:25, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rfb participation thanks

Hello, Xoloz.

I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. As you felt the need to oppose my candidacy, I would appreciate any particular thoughts or advice you may have as to what flaws in my candidacy you perceived and how you feel they may be addressed. Once again, thank you for your participation. -- Avi (talk) 20:57, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to ask you if you could remove the block on the Dejan Maric article just incase he does become a professional I aslo believe the vandal will not keep persistently creating this article. Thanks User:Ultra20 (talk) 19:37, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion review for Karina Pasian

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Karina Pasian. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article, speedy-deleted it, or were otherwise interested in the article, you might want to participate in the deletion review. ≈Alessandro T C 02:07, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Allegations of apartheid deletion notification

Some time ago, you participated in a deletion review concerning Allegations of Chinese apartheid. I thought you might like to know that the parent article, Allegations of apartheid, was recently nominated for deletion. Given that many of the issues that have been raised are essentially the same as those on the article on which you commented earlier, you may have a view on whether Allegations of apartheid should be kept or deleted. If you wish to contribute to the discussion, please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Allegations of apartheid (fifth nomination). -- ChrisO (talk) 18:26, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

dear Xoloz,

you protected User:Hillman talk page. However, since he seems to be editing wikipedia, I think it is inappropriate that his page be protected, as other users cannot comment and inquire about his edits.

I had a question about a redeleted article at WT:AFD#Redeleted article. Since you conducted some of the actions mentioned in my query, would you care to respond there? Thanks. — AjaxSmack 00:56, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of 31 June

A tag has been placed on 31 June requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Patchy1Talk To Me! 02:08, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The speedy has been declined. Hope things are well with you Xoloz. Syrthiss (talk) 12:15, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is good to see your noble name on my talk, old friend. I am reasonably well, though my personal time is now largely consumed by parental health care (in addition to my own health, which was never excellent.) Sadly, it is doubtful I will ever return to editing heavily. My daily reading of Wikipedia in spare moments continues unabated, however. The quality of the site's administration continues ever upward, under the guidance of superb people like yourself. Best wishes always, Xoloz (talk) 08:25, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
