- The notice on your talk page clearly tells you that there is no copyright tag on the image file. Besides which it seem you have uploaded this image previously under a different name and it was been deleted. There has to be a message in that for you. - Well as your images here were deleted you seem to have decided to avoid us here and upload the same image to the commons, however, I discovered this image is in fact a derivative work of a public domain image from the Canadian archives [1] and should be acknowledged as such as well as inheriting the same copyright licence. I actually wonder what is the purpose of the new image when a perfectly good one freely licenced image is available. Please keep the discussion together instead of starting a new section. How exactly do you sort what is prose and whatnot? I understand that categories&templates and stuff should be left out, but how about quotations and image captions. Either way I think there's close to 2 kb prose (blockquote text excluded), but I'd appreciate if you could make a new estimate after my recent additions. - Not as far as I know, but you can hide text from everyone, except in edit mode, by adding <!-- in front of the text you want top hide and --> at the end. Hope that helps. ww2censor (talk) 19:36, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
My Image
Hi! You recently tagged my image, File:Cumulus Cloud.jpg, for deletion. I am new to wikis, so I don't know how to change the license. Also, I do not know why you tagged it. It is my own photography. - Welcome but I wish even newbies would actually read the notices. It clearly tells you that there is no licence for the image you uploaded. We require a copyright and there is a link to the copyright tags page where you will find everything you need to decide which licence to use if you created the image. Many self creators will release their images into the public domain by adding the following template "{{PD-self}}" to the image by clicking on the edit button and adding this code in the permission field. - Despite the very prominent notice at the top of the edit page asking you to let me know what image you are talking about and asking you to sign your post, you made it more difficult to help you by failing to provide this information. I assume you are talking about File:Loweryosemitefalls.jpg to which I have added an information template with the only data I can see, i.e., the date of the image. Please fill in the rest of the details in the other fields. If you took the photo and want to release it into the public domain, add the following copyright tag {{PD-self}} to the licencing section. - I presume you are talking about File:True Home Boys.jpg. We need to see the actual source page the image is on so we can check the copyright status. I should tell you that many photobucket images are copyright and not freely available for us to use. Just add the source to the image file and also the copyright if you know it and let me know you have done that or drop it here and I will do it for you. - If your friend took the photo, he owns the copyright unless he assigned it to someone else. Under what copyright did he release the image and did he send verification of that permission by following the procedure found at WP:CONSENT? Right now the image still has no copyright tag and no information about the source you mention. - Proposing an image for deletion is not my wish, it is because you have not provided the required source and licence information necessary as mentioned in the notice left on your talk page, besides that, the image quality is so bad it really cannot add anything positive to any article. Now, regarding the article Hold Up A Light to which you did not provided me a link either, I did not delete anything. Another editor has turned it into a redirect page to The Circus (Take That album) per this edit and his edit summary says it all. Hi.
Can you help me with my images. I'm having so much trouble it's unreal and for months still not sure where i am going wrong. I have a link on all of my pictures that i take with my camera saying who about its copyright status. These are my pictures and i give a link in all of my pictures saying that there mine with a link from my personal website. I also put the pictures on section "entirely my work"

- Let's see if I can help you. The problem is that even though you have given some information about the copyright status of the images, this is not compatible with Wikipedia. We take copyright status very seriously and image must be freely licenced. Your images are copyright and you permission to use specifically on Wikipedia only is not free enough for us. You have a few options, the first being that you release the images into the public domain, though I see you don't actually own all the images, one is owned by Carsten Dietrich. Secondly you could release the images under a free creative commons licence. Check out the copyright tags page to find one you are happy to use and we agree to. In the same way that you currently link to the website allowing usage you would have to be more specific like Kara DioGuardi did with one image of her on this webpage. You also have failed to add a url (web address) to the pages on which the images themselves appear. Right now your images are unacceptable to us. You may also find it useful to read my image copyright information page. - Permission to use images on Wikipedia only is not a sufficient licence for us, we require that images are freely licenced which means that anyone can use it for anything, even commercial use. So if you release an image freely anyone is entitled to use it, for instance on a t-shirt, and sell it for profit, even if attribution is required.
- BTW thank for the email address that I have removed it for privacy reasons. We don't chase after you for permission or confirmation about any images, the burden of proof is up to you as the uploader to follow the guidelines and any problem notices left for you, or ask questions on the media copyright questions page. If you really want to freely licence some of your images you need to follow the procedure found on the WP:PERMISSION page.
- It looks like you only uploaded logos which are generally used under a fair-use claim to identify an organization. See WP:LOGO. Editing an article about your own organisation may be a conflict of interest and is discouraged; see WP:COI. The one image File:SEJ logo 2009.jpg not deleted is properly used with a fair-use rationale in the infobox of the SEJ article, though there is no actual source url which you should add. The use of any other logos in the same article under a fair-use claim would most likely fail the non-free content guidelines and all such images must pass all 10 guidelines to be acceptable.

- Actually Twinkle does the job but it only creates a link to the discussion page and not to the section. I'm sorry you disagree with me but many other stamp images similarly used have been deleted mainly as there is no contextual significance and it is not in an article about the stamp, but you have made your points at the discussion. - Hi - "edit clash" was just adding this. Do you know what the status of Colonial Authority - or Illegal Regime stamps is? Does their copyright fall to the next legitimate regime - or are they copyright free:)? And would it be OK to raise this issue in defence of keeping the image? - something along the lines of "In 1971, acting on a request for advisory opinion from the United Nations Security Council, the ICJ ruled that the continued presence of South Africa in Namibia was illegal and that South Africa was under an obligation to withdraw from Namibia immediately. It also ruled that all member states of the United Nations were under an obligation to recognize the invalidity of any act performed by South Africa on behalf of Namibia" like perhaps the issuing of stamps! - I understand that South West Africa was covered by the Berne Convetion and Namibia copyright applies for a least 50 years per commons licencing page. Unless specific laws to the contrary were enacted copyright is generally inherited by the subsequent state which is what I interpret from this. I doubt that illegal regime could apply but you would have to prove that because the burden of proof still lies with the uploader and you uploaded it as a non-free stamp so we have to presume you have no proof it in the public domain so applied a non-free rationale to try to justify it use. Postage stamps and postal history of the United States
Greetings WW2censor.
I am the fellow who as you know included a lot of images to the above named page. Since its inception I have been a fond reader of Wiki and a short while back have taken to uploading various images I have taken, and editing.
First my apologies for wrongly including many stamps images to the above named page. As the name of the page above read 'US Postage Stamps..' first, and since the bulk of the text was already covering US postage stamps I was under the impression I was helping the page grow by adding images of related postage stamps. I know it's not appropriate to include a lot of pics in most of the pages, but since 'stamps' were involved and because of their variety, I wrongly assumed more images would be a welcomed addition in this particular page. Since the page had a historical theme, I was attempting also to show how history itself involves postage issues, post offices and the like. I attempted to do this by introducing topographical and other sub sections. ie.History, Ships, Civil War, etc.
Recently user 'Ashlin' said he was pleased with the effort but cautioned me that the page was also about Postal history. He also stated that the Postal History theme of the page, even though mentioned secondly in the page title, still "trumps" the subject of postage stamps. I have no problem with that at all if that was the original intention when the page was created, however when I first arrived to this page there was very little written about postal history. The bulk of the page already went at length about Postage stamps. In fact I am the one who introduced the section on Post offices and their historical significance. Before that there was only one other section pertaining to 'postal history' and it was and is only a paragraph long.
Since then it has been suggested by Ashlin and yourself to split the page into two subjects. ie.'Postage Stamps' and 'Postal History'(+ -). It seems However if we do that there will be little left in the postal history section, while the bulk of the format would lie in the other new page. Even after I have removed five of the topographical sections, the page still covers stamp history primarily...(very) little written about postal history. As this page was already a two subject page before my arrival I am wondering if it is incumbent on the party who so named and arranged this page in the first place to have the pleasure of such a task. As I am new to Wiki' editing perhaps it would be more appropriate, and practical, if a senior editor, or someone, split the present page into two.
I am trying to establish another page, or perhaps a subsection to the proposed new page, that features stamps in other ways other than chronologically and definitively. I am especially interested in a section where American History is featured and commemorated on US Stamps and Covers. Where appropriate and unobtrusive I would like to link up various history pages with the appropriate sections and images. -- In my user space I am presently drafting such a page (or section) and hope to eventually offer it as a common reference for the history and related pages. I will be mindful of the number of images but in some sections I hope to include more than the average section. I am hoping you will drop in and provide some input. - Actually I did see basically the same discussion on your talk page with Ashlin. The issue of excessive use of images was discussed on the Postage stamps and postal history of the United States talk page and I took on the chore of refining most of the excessive image use. BTW, no offence is meant to you personally for your work but let me try to help you by way of some constructive comments. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia not a repositary for images and to that end articles are prose based and illustrated, where appropriate, by suitable associated images. What you did was add so many image that it looked like a stamp catalog or exhibit page which is WP:NOT what we are. As I pointed out on the talk page, the one featured philatelic article we have Postage stamps of Ireland, which I wrote most of, only uses 16 images. If that is the standard of the best quality articles we have then adding masses of images is not a way to improve an encyclopaedic article. We are about information not images. If working with masses of stamp images is your forte, then the foundation's World Stamp Catalogue is possibly a better forum for you, though the United States pages are already well illustrated.
- Your insertion of so many images breaks virtually every guideline in WP:IG by the excessive use of images and image sizes were also being forced into many large sizes, again contrary to the guidelines of MOS:IMAGES. I see that your History on US Post stamps draft page has exactly the same problems. Too many images and not enough prose most of which is not even referenced or cited though you are still working on it. You also need to remember that an article must firstly be notable and I doubt you will find American history on United States postage stamps to be such a topic. I for one don't see it but don't want to see you waste your valuable time on something that will likely be deleted for lack of notability. If you can provide reliable sources to back up the notability you must then also use that sources to verify the prose by adding citation templates to the article. You might consider an article Commemorative postage stamps of the United States with suitable sections grouping together different topics as an alternative to your current path. I did this for Ireland with Definitive postage stamps of Ireland but again with a paucity of images though a similar US article would be much longer.
- Our postage stamp and postal history articles are generally a reasonable balance between both topics though I specifically wrote Postage stamps of Ireland as a single topic article because I believe a combined article would be too unwieldy and that may be indeed the problem for the US article. If the US article get to the stage where it should be separated, we can always come to a consensus about that on the article's talk page, and out of courtesy having notified the project. Saying that in no way condones the excessive use of stamp images most of which are unnecessary to enhance the reader's understanding of the topic.
- I would be happy to try and guide you but right now I am off on a wikibreak and will not return until the latter part of May, though I may drop by occasionally. Don't be disheartened by the reversion of some of your work because it takes some time to learn the ropes so that you can enjoy your time here. ww2censor (talk) 13:58, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

I get a message from you that my file SYS_logo.png was deleted because of a missing copyright information.
Meanwhile I repeated the upload of the file 2 times, added that this is a foto by myself, and thet I put it under public domain.
I WILL NOT UPLOAD THE FOTO AGAIN.
Many people become wiki tired. What most urgantly would have to be removed, are self-denominated 'administrators' which lost all funcionality. Thats the same system like we had on the comunism.
As you can see from Linux distros, even for gratis things has a strong concurrence. wiki have to make efforts for survive in future, inclusive remove non-funcional people.
I let the article just without this picture. Its problem of wikis quality, not of me. If you want, you recover the picture youself
And in my own sites, I add this example to the reasons why wiki isn't trustworthy, playground for trolls and a self-denominated aristocracy

- Yeah, um, instead of making egregious complaints, you could have elected to educate yourself by reading the text on the form you used to upload the file, where the whole process of uploading files is described in excruciating detail. Alternatively, you could have also chosen to read the warnings on your talk page which would have served the same purpose. - The problem with this image is that there are no fair use rationales for each use as required and even the one that is there is not a good justification per WP:NFCC#10c.
- Files for deletion discussions stay open for a least 7 days and anyone can comment with their reason to support the deletion or not. You have already made your points but they don't address the problem with the image in any way. Sorry but just because there is no other freely licenced image available does not justify the use of this one with a fair use rationale. The closing administrator will decide the issue on its merits based on policy and guidelines. If the image is kept, the tag on the image will be removed and if it is deleted the image will be gone. There is nothing else you need to do but I notice the image has been readded into some of the article it was already remove from. ww2censor (talk) 13:23, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

- The only way to save the image is to add a fair use rationale, a good reason to justify its use, for every time the image is used in an article. I cannot save the images for you because I don't know what reason would be good for each use; you know more about the image, so you have to do it. When you use a non-free image it must comply with all 10 rules of the non-free content criteria otherwise it may be deleted. - Actually that image looks like a screenshot to me, so you did not create the image yourself therefore you cannot release it into the public domain, because it is a derivative work. For that you must use a Fair-use rationale with a suitable copyright tag such as {{Non-free web screenshot}} or possibly {{Non-free software screenshot}} to justify its use. ww2censor (talk) 04:21, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

- Then you should update the image file with that source information. In most instances a base URL is useless to follow a image, so you should always provide the full URL of the page on which the image is found. ww2censor (talk) 16:12, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

- Did you read the notice that was left on your talk page? The notice on your talk page and on each image clearly states that the images, not the article, are missing copyright tags. This is a requirement for images to be acceptable. As you took the images yourself you may want to add the {{PD-self}} template to the images if you are prepared to release the images into the public domain. BTW some of the images are very poor quality and really should be deleted unless you can upload a better one. ww2censor (talk) 16:11, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

- Curious topic I had never heard of. It appear this is unique to Geneva Lake and if that is the case, because I don't see any other locations mentioned, that should be mentioned in the lede. Please help me, I got your note. I am trying to get the John Schaeffer photograph I uploaded attached to his article on Wikipedia John Schaeffer (Sports Trainer). I updated the template. I Robert Brizel (self) took this photo, it is a free photo, those in it approve, and I want the photo with the article. I can't do it myself. lease help me. Thanks.

- First, do not put personal info into your posts (I have removed it) as we only interact with you here and don't want others to use that info improperly. Regarding the photo, you have unnecessarily uploaded it five times under different names, so someone now has to delete them as redundant. If you took the photo you must say so, and you must provide both a source and a copyright licence. BTW, how can you be the photographer and also be in the photo?
- You also removed the deletion notice on this image but only added info regarding the source but it is not used in any articles. This version is used in an article BUT you used the phrase "Free photograph given to Wikipedia" which is unfortunately of no use to use as we require freely licenced images, so as you claim to have taken the image you may wish to add the template {{PD-self}} to that image along with filling in all the information to the info template I will add to that image. I will tag all the others for deletion as they are identical. You may find it useful to read my image copyright information page for a better understanding of image copyright and what we require. - I had trouble getting the image onto Wikipedia, thus why I uploaded several times. Regarding the photo that is on Wikipedia NOW, I have provided the copyright information you have requested. - You did not add the template like I showed you above; you added plain text not a template and you used regular brackets instead of two curly ones in the source field, but I have fixed it. However you have still not answered how you claim to have taken a photo that includes yourself. If you did not actually take the photo you need to have the copyright holder send us their permission by following the procedure found at WP:CONSENT. - Sorry but I don't have very good news for you but we don't accept images whose copyright status is unknown. For freely licenced images we want to know the photographer, date of image, the source and most importantly the copyright status. Just because Duck gave you a photo does not mean the photographer who took the photo gave him any rights of reproduction over the image and without that we are lost because obviously neither you, nor Duck, have any evidence that the photographer surrendered those rights to Duck or retained them himself. Because Mr MacDonald is alive, a photo could be taken of him and released under a free licence which we accept. That could then be used in the Duck MacDonald article to identify him. You may find it useful to read my image copyright information page. - Hi there, these guys from Blue Cheer who have been playing since the sixties get pictures that may have been taken by a stoned kid or whoever at that time and the photographer may not even remember taking pictures let alone bands knowing. It is in his possession. There are many pictures from a lot of bands and musicians like that. There is no way we can use that? There is no copyright status at all. That's it?

- Well you are getting much closer. So now we have a photographer. If she does not specifically copyright her images that does not actually mean it is released into the public domain. The best thing to do it get her to give her consent by following the procedure in WP:CONSENT indicating whether the image is {{PD-self}} or a Creative Commons licence: I presume the former. BTW you just sign by typing four tildes without any nowiki code added. Adding nowiki makes it plain text without a link. The links help us link to your talk page. - As I previously wrote, you sign your username, not by writing it out as you signature, but just by putting four tidles, like this, ~~~~ at the end of your post and saving it. I can understand that you think an image has no copyright but that is not entirely true. You told me that Duck said the image was taken by Victoria Callandra Thrasher, so we need to confirm her permission. If this is her website then you can have her follow the WP:CONSENT mentioned above. When photographers say there is no copyright and one asks them if they mean it is to be released into the public domain and explain it means that anyone can use the image for anything including commercial use, they say, oh that's not what I mean. You are probably right that she will release the image under a free licence but this is why we need to confirm the copyright status, so ask her. We try to err on the side of caution which is why we are so picky about copyright. Just dropping a line to wonder if you would be interested in participating in setting up a Wikimedia chapter in Ireland. It took a year (almost to the day) but ten editors have expressed an interest, which meets the criteria for a "critical mass". How would you feel about it? Know of anyone who might be interested? Where is it from?
A friend shot video of the logo down in Algoma when he did a range test for his electric bike. He zoomed in on it for the exact reason of providing a logo (since the logo is next to nil anywhere online).
WITH HIS PERMISSION, I enhanced it, scaled it down to a smaller size, and posted it here.
I had also taken a lot of time to draw a map of the area and add the route of the railroad (it took me almost 2 weeks to draw it accurately).
