What to add

Why not add all of the schools in Houston ISD, Spring Branch ISD, Spring ISD, Conroe ISD, Fort Bend ISD, Duncanville ISD, Dallas ISD, etc. to the Texas Wikiproject :) (this is addressed to the bot's owner, of course) WhisperToMe 01:33, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

the bot should be traversing thru Category:Texas. It should make it to education soon. Joe I 01:38, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Orleans

The bot has improperly added at least 4 New Orleans related artices and images, such as 17th Street Canal, to Category:Texas. Please tell the bot that New Orleans, Louisiana is not in Texas. Thanks, -- Infrogmation 20:40, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto Alternative theories regarding Hurricane Katrina. Not in Texas. bd2412 T 21:03, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I know. Already removed. Sorry about that. Ingrid 00:05, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ditto Master P.Wbbigtymer 00:01, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. Thank you. Ingrid 00:05, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Houston, TX

I'm wondering why this bot removed the Wikiproject:Texas template from the discussion page of Houston, TX[1]. What standard was being followed? Thanks. Ufwuct 02:17, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Brent Krahn

Your bot incorrectly added Brent Krahn to WP:Texas. He's a minor league hockey goaltender whose only tie to Texas is playing 14 games for the San Antonio Rampage. ccwaters 18:57, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've put it to the project to see what they think, and am taking a break from tagging until they let me know. Ingrid 20:26, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see you have added Craig MacDonald to this project now. He has played two games for the Rampage and does not appear to have any other connection. Is the intent to tag every article for anyone that has ever stepped foot in Texas? -- JamesTeterenko 05:04, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The intent is to tag every article in every Texas category. Individual articles can be excluded by putting the text "WikiProject Texas" on their talk pages. If you think a category is incorrectly tagged, I can have the bot fix that error. I do not care what is included, I'm just trying to help out the folks at WP:Texas. Ingrid 17:07, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bot

Hi. Not a big deal, but the bot added the Texas Project page to Talk:Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge which is a National Wildlfe Refuge located in Nebraska and Iowa only.--MONGO 19:52, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing it out. I accidentally tagged Category:Missouri River, and was in the process of tagging all articles in that category. I fixed it (but welcome others pointing out mistakes). Ingrid 20:25, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Starting to be annoying that your bot keeps adding Talk:Norman Technologies, a banking I.T. consulting firm to the Numismatics project. You let me know when you get Goldman Sachs or Citibank successfully into Numismatics, then we'll add Norman Technologies. --MyWikiBiz 01:16, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Repeatedly adding Talk:Time value of money as well. Gary 15:57, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. It adds all articles in categories that are tagged. I'll look into whether the categories should be untagged. For now, I've made sure that those specific pages will not get re-tagged (by putting "Numismaticnotice" without the {{ }} on the talk page). Ingrid 17:04, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The bot is also insisting on adding Bill Haley to the TexasWikiproject. This is probably based on it flagging the fact he died in Harlingen. However he only lived in Texas for the last few years of his life and otherwise had no real connection to the state, so he doesn't really qualify for the project. If there is a Pennsylvania Wikiproject or a Mexico Wikiproject he would qualify as he did major work in those two areas and lived in both regions for most of his life. 23skidoo 21:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I had already replied to 23skidoo, but thought I should reply here too for completeness. This is up to the project. For now, it has been untagged, and marked so it will not be retagged. Ingrid 20:00, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Crom

Hi. I do know that the literary Crom was created by a Texan writer, but honestly, extending wikiproject Texas to him seems to go a bit overboard, as the creation has nothing to do with the origins of the creator. On the other hand, Robert E. Howard was not included, which is all the weirder. Would you mind stating your rationale on this? --Svartalf 12:06, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All articles in a Texas related category are getting tagged. This has the approval of WikiProject Texas. I don't have an opinion either way, I'm just running the bot for them. The only reason Robert E. Howard hasn't been tagged is that the bot has only gotten up to the C's so far. He's on the list. If you think a specific article should not be tagged, you can talk to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Texas about it, or just remove the tag, and leave "WikiProject Texas", without the {{ }} on the talk page to make sure the bot doesn't re-tag it. Ingrid 23:04, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gerald Ford

Why was Gerald Ford added to the Wikiproject Texas? Texas isn't even mentioned in the article. --Tysto 04:30, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's because he was in Category:John F. Kennedy assassination, which in turn was under Texas. I've removed wikiproject Texas from Ford and Category:Warren Commission, but left it on Category:John F. Kennedy assassination. Joe I 04:58, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Railroad subcategories

While I can understand adding the Texas project banner to BNSF since the railroad is headquartered there, the Texas project banner is not sensible on many of the subcategory articles such as Great Northern Railway (GN). GN never entered Texas and had no connection to the state; BNSF was formed 25 years after GN was merged into BN. Slambo (Speak) 15:24, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. So, should the whole category be removed from the Texas project, and the BNSF article would be the only one tagged? Ingrid 16:16, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That would be a safe way to start. The trouble is that some of the subarticles apply (such as Texas Chief (passenger train)), but many more don't apply (like GN mentioned above, Category:Northern Pacific Railway and other articles). The bot just retagged GN. You run into the same problem when traversing down Category:Union Pacific Railroad; the UP and some former merge partners, like MP and MKT all operated in Texas, but other merge partners like CNW or WP didn't. I'm afraid that the rail categories will need to be traversed by hand (like I'm now doing on Category:Rail transport to add {{TrainsWikiProject}}) to get an accurate tagging. Slambo (Speak) 17:28, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I've removed the tag from the category, and will leave it to someone at the project to tag them by hand. Ingrid 18:04, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I must disagree with the recent addition of Wikiproject Texas as a contributor to the article on the hockey player John MacLean. While MacLean did indeed play for the Dallas Stars, all records indicate he played no more than 48 games in two seasons with the team before his retirement from the NHL. There really isn't much reason for this project to be involved with a hockey player who had no more than half a season's worth of games with a Texas-based sports team, and is not even known for his time in Dallas. Resident Lune 18:13, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken out the tag, and made sure the bot won't retag it. If you notice another one, feel free to remove the tag, and put the text "WikiProject Texas" anywhere on the talk page to make sure the bot doesn't retag it. Ingrid 18:19, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think you might want to take out the Hockey player by team categories in your tagging. Most hockey players play for multiple teams in multiple states or provinces through their career. Most of them are not really very related to Texas at all. -- JamesTeterenko 18:27, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I took out the categories (that I could find -- Category:Dallas Stars players, Category:San Antonio Rampage players, Category:Houston Aeros players, and Category:Houston Aeros (IHL) players. I will remove the tags from all people in those categories which are already tagged now. Please let me know if I've missed a team. Ingrid 20:12, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The only other one that I can think of is Category:Houston Aeros (WHA) players. I'll make a note at the hockey project. Someone will let you know if there are others. -- JamesTeterenko 00:51, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ice Hockey

Would the bot mind adding {{ice hockey}} to all article talk pages in Category:Ice hockey that don't have it already? BoojiBoy 02:43, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Karl Dorrell

UCLA's coach has nothing to do with WP:TEXAS so I removed it. fpo

He was tagged because he briefly played for the Dallas Cowboys. I have no objection to removing the tag though, and made sure that the bot won't retag. Ingrid 23:59, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sid Fernandez

Sid Fernandez played minor league baseball in the Texas League. Hardly seems like a reason to add him to WP:TEXAS. I'm going to remove it. Let me know if you disagree. —Wknight94 (talk) 00:39, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just running the bot for the project. I'll let the project decide if they want it. Ingrid 02:42, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scott Elarton?!

I can't figure out why Scott Elarton was added to Texas project at all. There's no reference to Texas anywhere in the article. Bots gone wild? —Wknight94 (talk) 00:51, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He played for the Houston Astros. Ingrid 02:42, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah. Good point. I'll put it back. —Wknight94 (talk) 02:44, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Texas

Why was Slurpee added ? - BalthCat 02:17, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's in Category:7-Eleven and the company is based in TX. I'll ask the project if they want it. Ingrid 02:42, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My reason for asking is that other than the current licensee... the original company and location of invention are both outside of Texas. - BalthCat 22:03, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like a good reason to remove the tag. I've removed it and made sure the bot won't retag it. Thank you. Ingrid 23:59, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Steve Sailer

Nice bot, but it shouldn't be adding Steve Sailer, who's from California.--Nectar 14:18, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's listed because he went to Rice University. Ingrid 15:50, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is every graduate of Rice University really going to be part of Wikiproject Texas? That's an ambitiously large project. TheronJ 19:23, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If every person who did anything in a state was considered under the project of that state, many figures would be under a dozen state projects. Rice University may be relevant to Texas, but Sailer has nothing to do with Texas.--Nectar 21:08, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Every person who is in the category will be tagged. The project appreciates having a bot to do the tedious task of tagging thousands of pages, and doesn't mind if some articles with not much link to Texas are tagged. Anyone is welcome to remove tags that don't belong. Leaving the text "WikiProject Texas" anywhere on the talk page will make sure the bot doesn't retag it (I've done that for this article). Ingrid 23:59, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not worky :(

Ingrid, Interiot or whoever will read it - I am afraid the "great big catch-all automotive watchlist" function is not working. I used the link provided by Interiot today, and instead of the list of changes to articles identified as automotive-related by the bot (which I usually got), I got this. Is this some expected change you made for maintenance reason, or the bot's manlfunctioning? Will we be getting the wondrous and very useful watchlist back? Bravada, talk - 12:22, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like worky! Fenk yoo! :D Bravada, talk - 14:21, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tim Floyd

Floyd is from Louisiana, coached in El Paso for only 2-3 years in the 1980s, not really a candidate for this project? 68.190.212.208 15:28, 12 August 2006 (UTC) Why is Tim Floyd being added to WP:TX?? --fpo 22:50, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I missed this note before. He was an assistant coach at UTEP for almost 10 years. It's a small paragraph in the article though. If you think the tag should be removed, go ahead. If you put "WikiProject Texas" somewhere on the talk page, the bot will not retag it. Ingrid 23:59, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

adding tag to (disambiguation) pages

Hi. Your bot added {{WikiProject Texas}} to Talk:Yara (disambiguation) (a disambiguation page, obviously) (and persistently I might add). It's actually quite funny, that wikiproject goes a long way. --Qyd 19:48, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. It's the nature of an automated process. The bot was tagging all articles in Category:Characters in the works of Robert E. Howard, which this page is in. I've removed the tag and made sure it won't be retagged. Ingrid 23:59, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

KMOV?

Why is KMOV being tagged as a part of WikiProject Texas? Ardric47 22:14, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good question! It's because it's in Category:Belo Corporation which is a company based in Texas. But I see that other pages in the category also have nothing to do with Texas. I will remove the tag from the category and all pages in it which don't otherwise have an association with Texas. Thanks Ingrid 23:59, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm puzzled as to why you replaced {{Numismaticnotice}} with {{Exonumianotice}}. The COME project currency only exists in the form of printed notes. As far as I'm aware, there are no coins or other tokens used in the project. Waitak 01:54, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My understanding is that exonumia includes coin-like or money-like objects which can be coins/medals/bills/credit cards/etc. But I am not an expert. Ingrid 16:36, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Printed notes would be under Notaphily or Scripophily. I believe(I have to find references) that the definition on Exonumia is wrong. It should only be coin-like objects. No paper, cards etc... If thats the case, creating {{Exonumianotice}}, just shot us in the foot, we'd have to create one for the other two and what not. I'm really not sure weather Exonumia, Notaphily and Scripophily are specialized Numisamtics, or if they stand side by side. Joe I 10:19, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps (hopefully), there are other words we could use??? I think Official currencies might cover most of what the project is about. Perhaps that could be a sub project off of Numismatics? Or better yet, is there a word for non-currency numismatics. Ingrid 18:32, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ice Hockey

I'd appreciate it if you could do all articles in all subcats. I don't think we need any lists or anything but if it's no trouble I'm sure we could get use out of them. I'm watching this page now so feel free to start any time. BoojiBoy 01:31, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. T

Hey there. The bot added the WikiProject Texas tag to the talk page for the Mr. T article. I had a good laugh before I took it off again. :-) TheQuandry 17:05, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's because he played football at Prairie View A&M, but I agree that's not a reason to leave it tagged. I've added "WikiProject Texas" to the talk page so it won't get retagged. Ingrid 21:54, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cyril Wecht

Your bot added WikiProject Texas to Cyril Wecht's talk page. Aside from his criticism of the Magic Bullet Theory, and his work with the Branch Davidians, I can think of no good reason why the article should be part of WikiProject Texas. "Country" Bushrod Washington 23:43, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was tagged because it's in Category:John F. Kennedy assassination. I will make sure the article doesn't get re-tagged. Ingrid 22:40, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
