Request to restore the article Selection Gradient.

Hi Usedtobecool, I am a new member of Wikipedia and for my article Selection Gradient which is course final project, I tried to give my best. I was about to make some correction as I believe there are errors to be corrected but I was heartbroken by the fact that it's been removed. I figured out the reason for deletion R2 and I will try to make the changes as per my knowledge. For now, I request you to please help me by restoring the page as it is very crucial for me at this point. I will be looking forward for your suggestions. Best, EVC2 EVEC2 (talk) 21:04, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi Usedtobecool, I have tried best to edit the article as per my knowledge. I was hoping if you could help me by reviewing it one more time and helping to restore it. Any suggestions at this point is highly appreciated. I will be looking forward for your response. --Best EVEC2 (talk) 23:09, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

Hello EVEC2, I apologise for the delay. It appears I just missed it before going to bed yesterday.
It's really unfortunate that you are in a hurry because this is precisely the topic which would benefit from broader input, and the draft needs extensive edits to make it more like an encyclopedia article and less like a course lecture.
Since this is a scientific topic and not one you are likely to have a conflict of interest with, you are technically within your right to forego AfC approval process and move it directly back to mainspace if you so wish. If you choose to do so, I would have to further investigate it and determine the best course of action which can range from asking it to be deleted to approving it for indexing by search engines (middle paths include turning it into a redirect to a parent topic or merging it to a related or parent article).
My advice is that you work on improving it, for example by writing a proper introduction to the topic in the lead, one accessible to a broad audience, and copyediting to make it more encyclopedic, while you wait for it to be reviewed by an uninvolved editor. If you wish to move it back without waiting for AfC review, it would be best if you made sure it's independently notable to merit a standalone article by asking editors experienced in this area, for example at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Evolutionary biology, Talk:Competitive exclusion principle or Talk:Evolutionary invasion analysis. To my lay eyes, it looks like the content in your draft is suitable for Evolutionary invasion analysis, which is itself in dire need of improvement.
Regards! Usedtobecool TALK  05:21, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Thank you for your detailed suggestions. I have added a summary defination and made additional changes as per my knowledge. I accept that I need to be more responsible in terms of adding knowledge to the society. But I would also like to make a request for considering the effort as I am trying my best. Thank you for your valuable time. EVEC2 (talk) 15:54, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

Your comments on the arb request page

Should not have been deleted. It's your valid opinion. I am furious at this. Apparently you sent a wiki-thanks. So you are happy that an arb deleted your opinion on your statement? Aw thats Usedtobecool. I'm just going to delete their opinion, huh. ~ R.T.G 18:40, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for your concern RTG. I thanked them for adding an edit summary instead of rollbacking without one, the editsum was a good faith attempt to answer part of the question, the other part was most likely out of scope for the page. They are an Arb and so it is within their prerogative to revert any edits made by non-arbs there, I believe (I could be wrong). They could address the other part by being consistent, removing all other comments which, like mine, as they say, don't strictly address the topic of whether the case should be accepted.
How I feel about or react to it, is completely irrelevant to how my edits should be treated. The real world rarely cares that seriously about rationality of an argument, I find. Perhaps it is a bit pushovery of me, but I am new enough that I should take it with grace, I will grow enough to be able to become assertive without being dismissed soon enough.
Once again, thanks for your concern. Since you are objecting on principle, what I want need not figure into your decision of whether to pursue it either. I, myself, am content to get back to mainspace, following the discussions (mostly) from the sidelines.
Regards! Usedtobecool TALK  19:11, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
Sorry I missed the second part of your question. I agree that we are inconsistent in removing off-topic comments. One reason we tend to take a light hand in doing so is that sometimes arb/clerk actions aggravate people simply because they come from an arb/clerk – as you can see here. I only undid your comment because I happened to have my watchlist open and figured I could answer it in an edit summary. Please always feel free to express your opinion or ask questions on arbitration pages. If it ends up in the wrong place, somebody will just move it. No big deal. – Joe (talk) 19:26, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
(Edit conflict)An appeal to authority? Better to avoid editing others discussion at all unless they break the format on the page. Joe not only knows this, but is responsible for helping prevent such actions. There is unlikely to be any serious repercussion for this on Joe Roes part, and I encourage you not to edit war with the arbitrator or react to them in an angry way, however, one editors control over an area of the site has no bearing on questions related to that area. In my opinion the comment should be left there so others know what the opinion is. You may be new and unimportant, but that has nothing to do with how one conducts themselves. One of the oldest guides on the site is called WP:BITE. My advice is not to get excited about it because of my complaint. It's a minor issue on its own, but it is not a mistake which can be easily made by en experienced editor, hence my persistent complaint to Joe. I'm just objecting to something which may in future cause an upset or a dispute, and I'm arguing because Joe is playing what we call IDIDNTHEARTHAT. ~ R.T.G 19:43, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
Joe Roe, thank you for taking the time.
I have a lingering suspicion that my comment was removed because it was, in your opinion, too general to be directly related to the case. In other words, overlooking the nuance that, (under the "Arb/clerk prerogative" position, which RTG seems to disagree with) what are fair game for removal are posts not making an argument about whether to accept the case. That is not a minor distinction (prerogative doesn't require consistency, but inconsistency does raise issues like this one, where there's even enough ground to ask if my post was singled out for removal simply because its wording gave the impression that I might be a pushover, for lack of a better word). Arbs need to keep an eye out for nuances a lot subtler, and especially so in this case, if BHG is to have a fair chance, for accusations against her are obvious for all to see, in stark contrast with accusations from her, which will take a lot more serious an effort to examine accurately (I have yet to see her commend anyone for understanding her arguments completely, on this topic).
My regards to you and the committee, and best wishes! Usedtobecool TALK  20:52, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

Arbitration Case Opened

You recently offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Portals. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Portals/Evidence. Please add your evidence by December 20, 2019, which is when the evidence phase closes. You can also contribute to the case workshop subpage, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Portals/Workshop. Copyrights violation case

Hi, two Wikipedia pages (Kannanda Doddayya and Mathanda Appachu) I had created have been deleted because they had been taken from https://www.deccanherald.com/spectrum/spectrum-statescan/kodagu-soldier-s-tryst-with-the-british-665032.html and https://www.deccanherald.com/content/542671/immortalised-stone.html I am the author of the content on these two external pages. I wrote them under the name 'Mookonda Kushalappa'. Hence, I had directly used the content I wrote elsewhere in the two wikipedia pages. I would like to contribute these two external content pages to wikipedia if possible. I would request you to look into the same. Also, please drop the charges made against me. Thank you. :ನಿತಿನ್ (talk) (Theonlynitin)

@Theonlynitin:, have you been warned for copyright violations before today? If not, it's unlikely that you'll get into trouble for this. The CCI is not a charge against you, it is a venue to solicit assistance in order to go through all of your contributions and remove any copyvio, for the encyclopedia, and not at all against you. You can help by removing copyvios from your previous contributions yourself and noting that somewhere. I don't think you'll be allowed to participate officially in the cleanup.
I find it unlikely that all of the content you copy-pasted from was written by you. Even if it were, you would need to release the copyright of the text you want to reuse here first. The content you add to Wikipedia is not owned by you, so it's not as simple as you being able to use it here simply because you own the copyright. Honestly, I do not know all the details about how exactly it works. You are better off asking at the WP:Teahouse. All I know is, the webpages you have copy-pasted from say they own the copyright to the material. As long as that is the case, you can not use them here. Regards! Usedtobecool TALK  07:51, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
Actually, I've now had a chance to look at your talk page history and it appears you have received plenty of warnings before for copyright violations of both text and images. I don't know why you have continued to add copyright material in spite of all those warnings, in your 10+ years here. Usedtobecool TALK  08:03, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

Copyright case

Hello, Please I need your help on a copyright case you intervened in earlier . I feel really bad that my hard work is going to waste. Please how do I delete the page The Voice Nigeria (Season 2) as copyvio. I spent weeks of editing on my draft Draft:The Voice Nigeria season 2 and now its been taken away from me . Please help Taymeedeeray (talk) 14:41, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Taymeedeeray, by my estimation, there's at least three admins who come across every post at the Teahouse. So, I am hoping one of them will do it for you, saving us all the hassle. I am guessing everyone agrees with me, but the situation is probably unprecedented, that's why no one's volunteering to do it individually. Let's give it a day, and if nothing happens, we'll talk about next steps. Usedtobecool TALK  15:02, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
The other user is very new too. So, in the meantime, you could drop them a note at their talk page thanking them for trying to move the page to mainspace, informing them that their copy-pasting did not carry over all the history of editing that you'd done and instead credited them for creating the page instead of you, and as such, you would be grateful if they could blank the article or request its speedy deletion under the CSD G7 criteria by adding {{Db-author}} to the top of the page in source edit mode. That would, by far, be the best possible resolution to it all. Usedtobecool TALK  15:42, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

OK I'll do as you say. I'll leave a note at their talk page. But is there no way I can request for a speedy deletion on my own ?? Taymeedeeray (talk) 16:15, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Taymeedeeray, of course, you can! The question is whether any admin will act on it. Looks like the Teahouse is more divided than I thought. We'll take it to the administrator's noticeboard tomorrow. Hopefully, it will catch the eye of some admins who care more about common sense and community than letter of our rules, over there. Usedtobecool TALK  16:24, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Usedtobecool, I highly appreciate you for standing by me through everything. Thanks so much for your support. I owe you one. The issue has been solved as the histories have been merged which clearly shows that I created the page. I'm so happy that everything I did didn't go to waste Taymeedeeray (talk) 22:06, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

That's great to hear, Taymeedeeray. Happy editing! Usedtobecool TALK  07:09, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi Usedtobecool, you flagged this article for revision deletion due to copyright issues, but did not provide the URL that has had its copyright breached - if you can let me know the URL I can verify the copyvio and then delete the relevant revisions. Either ping me here, my talk page, or just re-add the revision deletion template onto the article but this time include the URL. Thanks, Fish+Karate 10:57, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

Fish and karate,  Done Thanks for the heads up! I forget to remember the optional things, sometimes. Will check my other requests now. Usedtobecool TALK  11:11, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for providing the URLs. I have declined the revdel request as it doesn't look like a clear copyright violation - there is paraphrasing but the source text is referenced, and paraphrasing from references is normal and usually acceptable. If I have missed something please do let me know. Thanks. Fish+Karate 11:16, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Fish and karate, copyvios report attached to the first revision requested to be revdelled is this. It shows a complete copy-paste of at least two paragraphs from the 2011 copyrighted website. Maybe, I included the first clean version as the endpoint of the revdel list?!! I have rerequested ending the list one revision early. Please look again, and if you end up revdelling, you can delete all revisions before my first "rm copyvio" edit even if the list ends one revision short. Thanks! Usedtobecool TALK  11:32, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
That is better, I can see the copyvio now, and the revision deletions have been done. Thanks for your patience! Fish+Karate 12:35, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Fish and karate, and thank you for yours! Cheers! Usedtobecool TALK  12:42, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Usedtobecool

... ,as I am new to the Wikipedia I am learning the policy and procedure of the site, I shouldn't had duplicate the article but I had my reason for it. in case of Badimalika it was because of the source page Bajura District because it should have been Badimalika Municipality it was mistakenly Badimalika only on the source page so I had to go and rename the source page and subsequently had to create the new page of Badimalika Municipality with same information. in case of Triveni Municipality I had researched for weeks and created the page as it is my hometown but because it was my first page I had forgotten adding the first paragraph of defining the place so I thought it is the good idea to submit new page with correction. But I want to assure you that this type of case will not be repeated in future. I am very thankful for your comment and I wish to get such guidelines in coming days to. PS: Badimalika Municipality is what the intended page so please merge Badimalika to it and please remove the Triveni Municipality which is in draft. Once again I want to assure you for not repeating such mistake. Looking forward to working with you. Thanks and Regards Ganesh Thapa --Gthapa (talk) 05:12, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

@Gthapa: we create WP:REDIRECTS when we have different possible titles for the same article. Draft is for reviewing a proposed article regarding its suitability for inclusion into Wikipedia, not for reviewing edits to existing articles. From next time, please consult at the TEAHOUSE when you encounter problems, the solutions to which are not readily apparent. There, you can get quick responses, much quicker than you would, on average, asking an individual editor like me. Of course, if you're not in a hurry, I or any other editor would be happy to help as well. I am not sure you received my other point because your alter-ego was editing your userpage even after you left me this message. Regards! Usedtobecool TALK  14:02, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Depukhu

On 12 December 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Depukhu, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in the Newar festival of Depukhu, young men compete for the carcass of a young female goat that is first sacrificed by drowning in the Deopokhari pond in Khokana, Nepal? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Depukhu. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Depukhu), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Revert (question)

What is my fault in your recent article that your revert my edit ? Kitaab Ka Kida (talk) 19:18, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Hello Kitaab Ka Kida, thanks for reaching out. You can see my edit summary by clicking the tab marked "History" at the top of the article. Here's the diff of my revert.
I have mentioned two issues there which I'll repeat below, the third has already been mentioned at your talk page.
  1. You should leave an article that's just been created alone, to give a chance to the creator to improve it, and so you don't edit conflict with them. We act swiftly against vandalism, spam, copyright, and attacks against living people, otherwise there really is no hurry.
  2. Everything in the article is already well sourced; there are five sources for just three sentences. So, the tag you added doesn't even apply.

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Accusation

Information icon

Hello Usedtobecool. Following edits I made on 28 December 2019, you made unfounded accusations and threatened me "not to make any further edits". I am in no way a paid advocate and I have no undisclosed financial stake in promoting any topics or articles I have added or edited over the last 6 years. I'm assuming you acted in good faith and are not pursuing a personal attack against me, so would appreciate it if you could retract your alligations and especially your threats against me.

Ewright1 User talk:Ewright1 15:30, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Ewright1, I am not threatening or attacking you. I was pursuing an impression/suspicion. Most of the times, the answer is yes and we ask the editors to comply with policy, other times the editors continue editing ignoring the message which gets them in some kind of trouble. In your case, you've denied being paid and responded to the message instead of continuing to edit, so obviously, there is no problem. You were and are free to continue editing once you'd responded to the original message. Sorry it came off as a threat, and sorry for the delay in my response. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 05:27, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

While I appreciate that you were merely pursuing an impression, it is the arrogance of your language that is the problem. Your language and constant use of the word "we" casts you on the inside and me on the outside as an individual. That is certainly not the foundation of Wikipedia, I would certainly not look to use language to separate and accuse you from a perceived position of superiority. Had the roles been reversed I would have been careful to be sure of my facts before making an accusation and would certainly have open any subsequent response with a clear apology for the accusation, which is something you have not done. I am really saddened by this whole situation. Ewright1 User talk:Ewright1 17:00, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Ewright1, the only place where I used a "we" was above where using "I" would be worse as it would imply I am in a position of authority and police everyone on the project. The "we" was meant to clarify that it's the project that does that not an individual editor.
I did apologise that it came off as a threat. The original message I posted to your talk page is generated by a template. I do refrain from using templated messaging where possible as they, more often than not, don't say exactly what I want to convey, but in case of asking about paid editing, there is just so much to be said and clarified that I thought it best to use a template that the community uses as a standard message. I will reconsider that approach in the future. I can not apologise for the accusation as it was not an accusation, I can only apologise for how it came off.
We can not have all the facts most of the time. We work on tell-tale signs and pursue them further. Before we can be reasonably sure, we assume good faith. There was enough reason for me to think to query if you are a paid editor. If I had enough reason to know without asking, I would not have needed to ask.
I am sorry this was unpleasant for you. I will try to do better in the future. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 17:47, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

Kungchido

Hi, I understand that my first article on Kungchido has been declined. I wanted it to be included in Wikipedia so that those interested can find some information about it and in the mean time those familier with it can edit and add more information. I did a search in google and included all relevant links in the reference. Please have a look and help me to publish this article. I wil be happy if you can publish the articke in your own name based on the reference I included. I just wanted it to be published. Thank you for your help in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bajra 2019 (talkcontribs) 21:07, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Bajra 2019, I made some minor improvements to make the sources more legible to reviewers. However, I can not help you publish this draft in my name or yours, since I do not believe the sources provided demonstrate enough notability to qualify this subject for a stand-alone article. If a Nepali has single-handedly created a new martial arts, it will be covered by some reliable sources soon if they haven't already. Then, I would be happy to get it published. I would need to see coverage in newspapers like Kantipur, Gorkhapatra, Himalayan Times, Annapurna or their sister publications before I would put more work into it. OSNepal may be good enough to fill in some mundane details, but it doesn't count towards establishing notability.
My advice to you would be:
  1. Declare your relationship with the subject (WP:PAID or just plain old WP:COI).
  2. Decide who the subject is. You either want to write about Mr. Saroj or his invention. Currently, you have many sources who mention Saroj but not Kungchido. They may be of use, but they do not help the draft get published.
  3. Remove links to Amazon and linkedIn. They are counted as spam. Also, blogs, user-uploaded content, etc. are not reliable sources that add to notability.
  4. Follow the example when adding more sources, put them between <ref> and </ref> instead of parenthesis().
I wish you good luck, and a happy Christmas/Maghi. Usedtobecool ☎️ 06:02, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for your comments and wish you a very happy new year 2020.
Just to clearify I am just plain old, not paid and trying to write about his invention. I remember watching him in one of the TV propgramme in Nepal. The whole show being devoted to his invention Kungchido and how he came to invent and develop it, but could not recall which program or find any link to that in google. As you mention I do not remember if there was any coverage about it in newspapers like Kantipur, Gorkhapatra, Himalayan Times, Annapurna. Do you think I should first try it to publish in them before publishing it in wikipedia. I put a link to Amazon as it is accessible to anyone to have a brief description about it. I will remove them as per your suggestions. World dictionary of martial art does include Kungchido. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bajra 2019 (talkcontribs)
Hello again @Bajra 2019:. Please see WP:SIGCOV. Consider each point very carefully paying attention to the choice and meaning of each word in that guideline. I am sure that would give you an idea of what is required more clearly than if I put it in my own words. As you will no doubt see, there's more to it than just being published in reliable sources. Of course it would help to be able to show that the subject has received some coverage in national newspapers. But that isn't always enough. Nature of the coverage matters. Regards! DYK for Labour in Nepal

On 2 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Labour in Nepal, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that as recently as 2013, girls as young as six from landless families were sold each year as labour in Nepal? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Labour in Nepal. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Labour in Nepal), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello

We've talked about this a couple months ago. I'm fairly new to wikipedia and started by editing a page about a company that is going to build a really big mine near my village (therefore this info is really relevant for our region). Would you mind reviewing the draft?

Depending on this I will continue to editing and I can do it in three different languages (Portuguese and French as well).
Thank you for your attention. Diogo Silvado (talk) 14:33, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
Hello again Diogo Silvado! It looks to me like there is more about the mine in your draft than there is about the company that is the subject. Based on the English sources I can access, the company is probably notable but I can't read enough of it to accept the draft on the strength of the sources alone. REFBOMBING doesn't help. Please consider this an unofficial decline from me, and wait for an official review from someone else, hopefully one who can access all sources and understand the languages too. In the meantime, I would suggest only adding sources to support the claims that you do make. Other sources you could add to the talk page for future reference. Or better yet, you could expand the draft actually writing about the firm using those sources (Notability is demonstrated through SIGCOV and the hallmark of SIGCOV is its ability to facilitate expansion on the subject using verifiable claims). If multiple sources only support the same claims and do not bring anything new to the table, I suggest choosing the best of them and discarding the rest. Since I can not accept it to mainspace at this time, this unofficial review is the best I can do. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 16:06, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
I'll keep improving this and take these lessons for the future. Once again, thanks a lot for your guidance! Diogo Silvado (talk) 18:10, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

2021 IPL

HI, now that it is 2020, User:SpotingFlyer, told me that I should edit up the 2021 IPL in 2020, now that new confrontations have been made. So do not delete all my work on the 2021 IPL article.

Sincerely, @ Wikipedian Creator — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikipedian Creator (talkcontribs) 18:56, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello Wikipedian Creator, All IPLs are going to become notable sooner or later. So, it is really a matter of showing that enough sources now exist which discuss the 2021 season in some detail (WP:SIGCOV) such that a decent article can be written on the subject. If I remember correctly, when I reverted the article, it had one source and not much useful detail. It doesn't matter that it's 2020 if that's all there is out there. But if there are enough sources out there to support a decent article, you can expand it. Your work is never lost, it can always be recovered from the history of that page and continued from there when new sources become available and content can be added. If there are sources, while you are expanding it, you could put the {{under construction}} template at the top so that no other editor passing by reverts it back to the redirect before you can add enough sources and decent amount of content. If there aren't enough sources, it might just get reverted back by another who comes across it, even if I don't do it. I see that you've started working already as I write this. In case you are not aware, I reiterate, you can extract your previous work from the page's history when you do that, you don't have to start from scratch each time. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 19:20, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello, User:Usedtobecool, the auction for the 2020 IPL has come and gone, and it will be a matter of time before more news of the 2021 IPL season will be launched. And because of this, I am only writing very little on what we now so far on the 2021 IPL.

Hello again Wikipedian Creator, There are issues but it has it's moments. Some advice:
  • Please don't bold Indian Premier league in every section, and do not wikilink all instances of it.
  • There are some WP:DAB links that need to be fixed.
  • References should display source titles, not quotes or custom text.
I'll look again if and when these are fixed. Good luck! Usedtobecool ☎️ 16:16, 11 January 2020 (UTC)

Nawa-Raj Subba

I've been searching google for research topics and finding him with useful research papers. If Wikipedia displays a list of his books and articles that will provide readers with a reliable website. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by AS2397 (talkcontribs) 06:02, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello AS2397! I am quite certain that you are the subject himself. As such, I am disinclined to help you until/unless you declare your COI and commit to abide by policy. Alternatively, you had rather wait for an independent editor to notice your work and decide to write an article on you.
Incidentally, this was one of the first articles I created here (to be fair, translated from neWP) and it was deleted for the same reason by the same admin. I later got it refunded as a draft and I looked at it for some time before deciding it was too early. Looking at the history of Nawa Raj Subba which seems to be your usual target, I am just glad someone more familiar with the area didn't come across my creation or I might have been blocked as a PAID WP:SOCK.
Believe me you, I'd like nothing more than to remove the blemish on my wiki-career by reinstating one of my first deleted articles, but there just aren't enough independent, reliable sources. If you think there are, again, please declare your COI, and I'll look at them for you.
As to the point about displaying a list of works in this trusted website, see WP:NOTEVERYTHING. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 08:49, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
Just so you know, I did get your ping, but it's not a big deal to have your first article deleted as long as you're willing to improve. Most of us were not great editors when we started out, certainly me included. Seraphimblade Talk to me 22:46, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi! Regarding edit revision 935918965 on page titled Mark D. HillWisconsinCS (talk) 11:26, 20 January 2020 (UTC) WisconsinCS

Hi there! I realize you undid my contribution on the page due to having "no secondary sources, inline citations, and formatting errors". I would like to understand what I did wrong, and understand how to improve it. I didn't have many inline citations because most of the information came from the same source, Mark Hill's CV, from his personal page. I'm a new user, so I'm not familiar with secondary sources. And lastly, what formatting errors do I have?

Also, how do I avoid a conflict of interest if I am a writer employed by the university to write an article on him? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WisconsinCS (talkcontribs) 11:39, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello WisconsinCS, that makes you a paid editor. WP:PAID covers the guidelines on paid editing. You should find a link to templates there, which you can use to easily disclose articles, clients and employers of your paid contributions. The most transparent way of disclosing is to do so on your userpage, preferably at the top, using the designated template. The most important of the paid editing guidelines other than disclosure is that you should not directly edit the article, except for fixing minor errors (spelling, grammar and formatting) or removing vandalism and WP:BLP violations. Instead, you should use WP:Edit requests. There are claims which can be added to the article supported only by primary sources, and there are those that can't. You can explore the types and suitability of sources starting at WP:PSTS. Finally, as to the actual editing, please do not add citations to headers. Even if the same source supports most of the information, inline citation is necessary, especially in case of BLPs; one inline citation at the end of each paragraph should suffice, assuming all of it is supported by the same source. You had appeneded "[edit]" to each of the headers which is what I was alluding to in my edit summary. I don't know how exactly that happened but the edit button on each header is automatically added by the wiki software, and so what you did was both non-functional and unnecessary.
Further than that, I expect you'll continue to find out with experience and from responses to your edit requests. Feel free to ask if you have further questions or if I missed something. I am actually out of town right now and only using a mobile device to sparingly check for alerts and notifications, so have trouble looking over many pages in detail, and may not always be able to promptly respond here either. So, to cover for that, I shall leave a templated message on your user talk page which will have links to some of the most useful and basic information pages about editing Wikipedia. You can also ask at the WP:Teahouse to receive real-time help with editing; everyone is welcome there and no question is too basic to ask.
Thank you for reaching out, and good luck! Usedtobecool ☎️ 13:42, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion Notice for Anjum Rehmani

Anjum Rehmani is a real topic and meets Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, Wikipedia:Notability (people), Wikipedia:Core content policies, and WP:BLPSOURCES. Topic can be verified from Dawn (newspaper), The News International, and Pakistan Today. No doubt page has sentence structure issues and required improvement. This page should be tagged with Template:Lead rewrite. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MNB9911 (talkcontribs) 04:58, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello MNB9911, I tagged it for speedy because it was only two months ago that the article had been recreated which was judged to be substantially similar to the one deleted by community consensus in 2018. As only admins can view the deleted pages, we'll have to wait for an admin to compare this version with the deleted version and render a verdict. If indeed there are improvements to it such that it may now satisfy the content policies, the reviewing admin will decline to delete it speedily. Regards! Yoninah, I do closely follow all edits to DYK pages I am involved with but thanks for taking the time anyway. I am not sure there's much I can do. I suppose I will recheck the changes once they've been made and notified of on the DYK page, and then call for another reviewer to assess whether the article passess the sketchiness test, since that is not the concern I expressed. Does that sound about right? Usedtobecool ☎️ 04:13, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
I'm also watchlisting this page and the reviewer's response. You might want to review DYK's supplementary guidelines before doing another review, as it lists other things to check in your reviews. This issue falls under Rule D7. Best, Yoninah (talk) 12:47, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

Namaste

Usedtobecool, Greetings and thankyou for welcoming me to Wikipedia. I saw that you had left a message on the talk page of Kul Bahadur KC. Could you please elaborate on this part "Generally, the awards should have articles on Wikipedia or at least be deserving of one." The awards I have included are legitimate awards with certificates which I may provide if I need to. Since the awards received by the poet are not covered by online media, I cannot provide any online citations. Thank you for your concern. A guidance would be appreciated. Literature review (talk) 05:39, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

@Literature review:, it appears you have a WP:COI with the article. Please read the linked page and make necessary disclosures to avoid any future problems. I see that you posted for help at your own talk page too. I am not sure that was meant for me as well, but in any case, we can continue the conversation here. The article's talk page was the best place to discuss improvements to it. But since you removed our conversation there, I'm assuming that's not what you want. Note, however, that any conversation that has received replies doesn't belong to you. So, you should not blank them. I don't much care either way, so i am going to let your blanking at the article's talk page stay. But, you can't copy-paste conversations to other pages to give a misleading impression that an editor has edited a particular discussion on a particular page when they have not. Now, please read WP:COI and come back and then we can have a conversation about the article. Regards!Usedtobecool ☎️ 14:05, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello Usedtobecool,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Requesting help in re-instatement of page named Shweta Shalini

Hi Sir,

I found your name as comment in my talk with Jo Jo Eumerus Sir where I was requesting to reistate a page entitled Shweta Shalini

I don't know whether you had typed it or Jo Jo Eumerus suggested it as I am new to Wikipedia and still can't figure out most options.

I had edited a page which was existent for last 6 years named Shweta Shalini. It was deleted as I didn't understand how to participate in AFD discussion within 7 days.

Can you help sir ?

I have gone through AFC and submitted draft for review for the first time. Don't know how it will pan out. I have data as Jo Jo Eumerus sir gave it back later copy pasting to userfied data asking me to make it into mainspace. I don't know how to do it.

Please help if possible.

Praveen u menon (talk) 18:46, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Praveen u menon, I was only fixing a formatting lapse that was affecting other discussions at Jo-Jo's talk page, and did not pay any attention to your conversation there. I have declined the draft you submitted, as the sources presented were not enough to meet WP:GNG. You can use the userfied article to help you improve your draft before you resubmit, but that is all that is good for. You should not move it to mainspace or it will just be deleted again per WP:G4. Please answer the query about your potential conflict of interest that is at your user talk page. And, no, the article was not deleted because you did not participate, it would have been deleted nonetheless. There's not much I can do to help; multiple editors familiar with India checked to see if the subject is notable during the AFD, and concluded otherwise. I wish you good luck though. Regards!
