Hello, Urbashi, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Since you've shown some interest in editing topics related to India, we hope you'll stay and add content to India related articles. Indian topics are generally underrepresented on wikipedia and you can help counter this imbalance by becoming a regular contributor and by joining or watchlisting India related discussions (for example, Noticeboard for India-related topics). Again, welcome!

You can reply either here in your talk page, or in my talk page. Both are accepted practice. I usually reply back to the other editor's talk page.
You can add Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics to your watch list. Discussions often take place there. You can also add your name to Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Members, although that names list is not a very well-maintained list. You can add yourself to the mailing list as well. Geoscience request

Since you are a geoscientist, can I please request you to have a look at the second paragraph of the " Geography and climate" section of the article Tripura? The paragraph has information on physiography and rocks etc. the info have been sourced to appropriate references. Please have a look if the sentences have any technical errors, or any other explanation is needed. Thanks a lot.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:31, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for your help. The next article that you can have a look is Kolkata. Again, geography section. The first paragraph has information on soil, quaternary sediment etc. These info were added based on some available reports. However, info were added somewhat blindly (for example, I do not know what is actually a quaternary sediment, but added that since it was mentioned in the source). Can you please check if there is any technical error in it?
Also, I see you made the first letters of the epochs to capital in Tripura article (Oligocene). So, is that the rule? Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:29, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
ok. Please do the literature search, and amend anything in the article. While doing so, please provide the source of information as well.
When we started Geography of West Bengal, it was based on secondary level geography book ( you know Debasish Moulik if you we were in West Bengal board!). Later some high secondary level economic geography book was used to enhance the article. There is not adequate geological information in the article. If you are interested, have time and references, you may want to add geological information there. Geology of India looks like a decent article.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:16, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see your addition was reverted by anoth user. I will have a look at the content and the references that you had added. Can not do that right now, but will do within the next couple of days.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:56, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Style matters

Long ago, we decided to minimize capitalization on wikipedia, i.e., we don't capitalize section titles, and basically anything that doesn't need to be capitalized. See MOS:CAPS. In other words, we write "sequence stratigraphy" or "Sequence stratigraphy" instead of "Sequence Stratigraphy" unless it is a publication title. Regards. Well, I did some copyediting in the article. Mainly style issues. One thing that I suspect (but did not check) is there may be some copyright violation or close paraphrasing issues. That is, some words or phrases or sentences may be uncannily similar to sources; so such sentences or phrases may need to be changed to some extent.
You have used single apostrophe (as opposed to quotation markes) for several names of production. Those should be changed to quote marks. There may be some language issues as well. I did find at least one during by very quick reading of the article, and corrected it. However I could not read it attentively as I was in a hurry. If possible, change some sentence structures so as to reduce similarity with references.
Also, I have added the geological information already to the article Geography of Kolkata. Soon that may be adde pd to Kolkata as well. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:29, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On Abbas Uddin

In the talk page of Abbas Uddin, there is a note regarding copyright problem. You can ask that editor (Moonriddengirl) that you want to start the article from scratch. Moonriddengirl is a copyright expert, she will probably tell you to write a temporary article. Usually temporary articles are written in a subpage of talk page, something like Talk:Abbas Uddin/Temp. Once you believe the temporary article is of sizable volume, you can let Moonridengirl know. Then the temporary article's text will be moved to the actual article. See Talk:Surya Sen/Temp for example.--Dwaipayan (talk) 23:20, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The copy vio problem in Surya Sen is resolved, and the article is there now. So, similarly, you can start working on Abbas Uddin in a temporary page (as outlined above). If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Somnath Dasgupta requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Your contributed article, Department of Earth Sciences

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Department of Earth Sciences. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Assam University. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Assam University – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 08:26, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
