You 'welcomed' yourself to WP? Huh. Never saw that before... - wolf 13:27, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

March 2008

Hi, the recent edit you made to The Victorian Society has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thanks. WEBURIEDOURSECRETSINTHEGARDEN tell me a joke... 12:30, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You removed the tags at the top of the page. These are there to let others know that the article must be improved in those areas. You may add information, but please don't remove the tags.WEBURIEDOURSECRETSINTHEGARDEN tell me a joke... 18:31, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
They might be ugly, but they do aid editors. I'm afraid there's no workaround for this. WEBURIEDOURSECRETSINTHEGARDEN tell me a joke... 18:38, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't remove or change reference handling code without first gaining consensus as you did here - [1]. -- John (Daytona2 · Talk · Contribs) 15:51, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As you can see, a link was moved from that page to another as it was more relevant there. Also content was added. My changes were then vandalised. Tony May (talk) 21:40, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of LMS locomotives as of 1947-12-31

It would be nice if you would at least explain why you keep reverting my change to the dates in List of LMS locomotives as of 1947-12-31. At least a comment on the talk page would be good behaviour. Thank you. MilborneOne (talk) 18:21, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank for the reply I have commented on the talk page. Please note I am considering proposing to move the article to the better List of LMS locomotives as of 31 December 1947 as being more sensible. But I have asked for opinions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject UK Railways. Your comments are welcome. MilborneOne (talk) 18:44, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BR locomotive numbering

There is no single version of history and sources often disagree. If you have sources which you believe to be more reliable than mine then you are free to edit the relevant articles accordingly. Biscuittin (talk) 10:34, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Three-Revert Rule

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Edward Talbot. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. ←Signed:→Mr. E. Sánchez Get to know me! / Talk to me!←at≈:→ 22:31, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well tell him off not me then. He's the one removing content. that is vandalism. Tony May (talk) 22:33, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You have been warned. You should take this to dispute resolution if it keeps going. You jumped in after months of edits. ←Signed:→Mr. E. Sánchez Get to know me! / Talk to me!←at≈:→ 22:38, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What's this a conspiracy of vandals? Tony May (talk) 22:39, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen this dispute posted about on WP:AIV. I have warned the other user (Boleyn) to discontinue as he too is in violation of 3RR. Please discontinue reverting or you may face a block.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 22:41, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the Usage of the Word Vandalisn

Vandalism, is the act of delibrately making uncontructive edits. Please refrain from calling other editors vandals, or accusing them of vandalism. Although it's not exactly something that gets you blocked per say, but people will look at you in a rather bad light because usage of this term, especially for edits that are clearly not vandalism very are frowned upon on Wikipedia. Edits that you don't agree with, are not vandalism, and you should discuss why you think the edits are unconstructive for Wikipedia, rather than calling other editors vandals. See this essay. Also, when editing, please remember to assume good faith, even if other editors are making edits that you do not nessesaryly agree with. When editing, please remember to keep this in mind. 山本一郎 (会話) 03:25, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted the addition to the Edward Talbot page, disambig pages should link to other wiki pages. If your addition is notable, he should have his own article written first, then the link added to the disambig page. Thanks! Dayewalker (talk) 10:05, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for mediation

A request for mediation has been filed with the Mediation Committee that lists you as a party. The Mediation Committee requires that all parties listed in a mediation must be notified of the mediation. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/LNER Peppercorn Class A1, and indicate whether you agree or disagree to mediation. If you are unfamiliar with mediation on Wikipedia, please refer to Wikipedia:Mediation. Please note there is a seven-day time limit on all parties responding to the request with their agreement or disagreement to mediation. Thanks, Biscuittin (talk) 13:50, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that's fine. Let's hope we get a good mediator though. Tony May (talk) 14:14, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please add your thoughts at Wikipedia:Requests_for_mediation/LNER_Peppercorn_Class_A1#Additional_issues_to_be_mediated. Biscuittin (talk) 19:03, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for agreeing to mediation. Do you want to add any additional issues to be mediated? Biscuittin (talk) 17:07, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've put my comments at "Issues to be mediated". I think you should put yours at "Additional issues to be mediated". MacNee has put some comments there so make sure you identify yours as yours. Biscuittin (talk) 23:04, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I want to explain why I put my edits back into your Tony May/A1 page. You want this page to be part of the discussions about that topic, but if so, the comments you make should be subject to discussion. How can this discussion continue if edits to the Tony May/A1 page are not welcome? There is supposed to be discussion and I suggest that either the Tony May/A1 page is open to edits and discussion, or you should withdraw it from the discussions on A1 Peppercorn talk page. The explanatory text for Steam locomotives of British Railways#Locomotives acquired from the War Department just tails off ("Also, five of the eight LMS Fowler Class 3F 0-6-0Ts were.")

I have nominated List of British Railways steam locomotives as of 31 December 1967, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of British Railways steam locomotives as of 31 December 1967. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

KCR ex-WD Austerity 2-8-0

Articles are not allowed to have redlinked categories sitting on them. If you want the {{uncat}} tag to come off KCR ex-WD Austerity 2-8-0, then you need to find and add a category that actually exists (i.e. one that displays in blue text when you save the page) — because if you keep adding the same nonexistent category over and over again, then it's just going to keep getting retagged over and over again. Autopatrolled

Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority
  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
  • If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:47, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added template for SuggestBot

Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 16:21, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Railway artists

Hallo (Are you the Tony May who was at Univ of Leeds, I wonder?)

I came across John Austin (artist) while stub-sorting. There were a few problems you might like to bear in mind another time:

  • You linked FGRA without checking where it led to - until I change it just now it was pointing to an obscure village as the initials of its Residents Association (not mentioned in the article so I felt it OK to just re-direct the redirect). Please always check that links are going where you intend (eg not to a disambiguation page).
  • You created the page with a disambiguation in brackets, but didn't then add him to the disambiguation page at John Austin, so no-one typing in "John Austin" would have found him. I've added him.
  • You added a non-existent category, and replaced it when it was removed, to this and other pages. I've created a new, wider, category: Category: Rail transport artists. Neutral terminology between railway/railroad. It's within the parent category of Category:Artists by genre. I think it's more useful than the category you were using which can only have 5 members.
  • When listing a book, it's better to give publisher and date and ISBN: the last is then picked up and made into a link automatically (as long as it's input as ISBN (in capitals), space, then the number). It all adds authority to the article.

PamD (talk) 10:06, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looking further, it might be good to create Category:British railway artists as a subset of both the above and Category:British people in rail transport. I might do it, no time right now.PamD (talk) 10:09, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Malcolm Root has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Disambiguation link notification

Hi. When you recently edited LNWR Class G, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Edward Talbot (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:50, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of LMS Sentinel 7164, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://wikibin.org/articles/lms-sentinel-7164.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. Nomination of LMS Sentinel 7164 for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article LMS Sentinel 7164 is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/LMS Sentinel 7164 (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article.  Sandstein  22:33, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As a back-up position, could we merge this with LMS Sentinels 7160-3? Biscuittin (talk) 18:34, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. They're quite different technically. 7160-3/(4)7180-3 were very much different (much bigger; e.g. weighed 20.85 tons not 19 tons). The vital stats are in there already. Tony May (talk) 18:37, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Gerard Dewhurst

I have reverted your edits as unreferenced - please include a reliable source so we can verify the claims. Regards, GiantSnowman 14:47, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Again, you are adding unreferenced information to an article. Please find a reliable source so we can verify the claims. GiantSnowman 19:15, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I added a reference. Pehraps you should go and do your research in the obvious places? Tony May (talk) 19:15, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What reference, where? GiantSnowman 19:17, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have notified WT:FOOTY about your disruption. I will not revert you again due to WP:3RR. PS labelling my edits as "vandalism" is extremely poor form. GiantSnowman 19:21, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not being disruptive. You are. You're removing referenced material. That is vandalism, basically. Tony May (talk) 19:23, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You have not provided a reference, and in fact some of what you are claiming is contradicted by existing sources. You say Dewhurst was a banker? Nope, cotton trader. GiantSnowman 19:26, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I have. And yes he was a banking executive. Which part of that don't you understand? Tony May (talk) 20:29, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

March 2012

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Gerard Dewhurst. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. See also The three-revert rule. Your edits were not reverting vandalism as you state in edit summary please discuss before further reverts. Edinburgh Wanderer 21:04, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but I'm reverting vandalism. Tony May (talk) 21:05, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately you are not reverting vandalism you are edit warring. If you continue then it will be reported as a breach of 3rr. You currently have reverted 6 times that is clear edit warring. Edinburgh Wanderer 21:07, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So explain to me, which part of that is not vandalism? Removing perfectly valid information? Vandalism. Tony May (talk) 21:08, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please read this WP:3RR. You are in strong danger of being blocked if you continue to ignore the rules. Adam4267 (talk) 21:09, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
YOU ARE ONE OF THE VANDALS! WP:3RR doesn't apply to reverting vandalism, as far as I can tell. Tony May (talk) 21:10, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have reported you here WP:AIV for your editwarring at Gerard Dewhurst. Adam4267 (talk) 21:20, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have reported you at WP:AIV for your vandalism to Gerard Dewhurst. Tony May (talk) 21:30, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Tony, reading WP:CIVILITY could be helpful for your future editing. Specifically try to engage in conversation with other editors rather than ignoring what they say, falsely accusing them of things and edit warring. Thanks. Adam4267 (talk) 21:41, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have been perfectly civil in what quite clearly idiotic trolling. Tony May (talk) 21:47, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're way over three reverts on Gerard Dewhurst, and it is clearly a content dispute. I have blocked you for 24 hours. If you will avoid any more reverts, I will unblock so you can discuss it on the article talk page (any admin may do the same). To request an unblock, add {{unblock | reason = Your reason here}} below this. --TeaDrinker (talk) 21:26, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Thanks. How many of the vandals get banned? 21:29, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
That's the crux of the issue, no one was vandalizing the article. It was a legitimate content dispute. And as such, it needs to be resolved through discussion on the talk page, or failing that, dispute resolution. If you're willing to forgo further edits to the article until you have consensus to make those changes, I would be happy to unblock you. --TeaDrinker (talk) 21:37, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Put this another way, how can removing perfectly valid content on false pretenses not be vandalism? Tony May (talk) 21:46, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collector of information. There are many reasons why something true and demonstrable might be excluded from an article. Let me be clear, though, I take no side in your dispute. You will have to discuss it with the other editors to determine their reasons for wanting to leave it out. And I would be happy to unblock you for that purpose, if you're willing to forgo editing the page until you have consensus on those edits. --TeaDrinker (talk) 21:53, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Given his above statement made seconds ago calling everyone else idiotic trolls I'm not sure he is willing to discuss with anyone. Everyone would be happy to discuss if it was civil but given above I'm not sure they have respect for wikis guidelines and calling non vandalism as such is worrying behaviour from anyone let alone breaking 3RR which isn't the first time see top of talk page or being uncivil which calling everyone trolls is.Edinburgh Wanderer 21:57, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, although it may well be that his troglodytic remark was merely the result of a temporary poor judgement call. I see nothing that yet warrants a permanent ban, so my belief is it is necessary to continue working to resolve this issue or we're just delaying conflict 24 hours by blocking. Nothing suggests to me that Tony is an intransigent editor, merely passionate. I have high hopes we can get past this issue, if we are all mindful of the tigers. --TeaDrinker (talk) 22:04, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want him permanently blocked i don't even want the block extended because he appears normally to be productive. What I'm saying is unblocking so he can discuss whilst still calling everyone vandals or trolls will make it worse he or she needs to calm down and be civil before this issue is going anywhere.Edinburgh Wanderer 22:10, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

The article John Austin (artist) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Little evidence of meeting notability criteria, nothing I can see online to augment the article. No coverage about him and the listed book about him is authored by him too.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Disambiguation link notification for February 7

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Frederick Longstaff, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Anglo-Canadian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

There is nothing wrong with the photo of 46115 in Carlisle as it's a more recent photograph of the engine at work on railtours compared to that shot youve added from 2009. And that photo of 46115 which your claiming is terrible is infact one of my own photographs, so id advise ya dont slag me off for my photo work. Photos have to be kept updated every few years with more recent shots and its the same story with the jubilees as a shot of Leander in crimson is out of date as the engine no longer wears that livery. Unless theres a more recent photo of 46115 do not change it to an old one as the more recent shot must remain as was, also stop deleting info on classmembers.

Article photos

Are you seriously replacing every single one of my photographs in articles with other peoples, what have you got against my work.

Article photos (2)

Stop slagging off my work, I dont see any of your own work so stop randomly criticising my own work and replacing it with random peoples photographs. The photos still show the subject and it cant be helped if the weather was what it was. Keep negative views over my work to yourself and stop editing others work. Moylesy98 (talk) 02:15, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on 1999 Winsford railway accident requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/documents/HSE_Winsford1999.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Copy-paste moves

I have deleted your unattributed copy paste moves. If there is a need to split a page (which wasn't necessary here), you should always make sure to clearly indicate the origin of the text for attribution reasons. Now the article history gave the impression that you were the writer of these pages, while all you did was copy them from elsewhere. Fram (talk) 09:17, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The moves were necessary. Why are you suddenly being so aggressive towards me? What have I done to upset you? Honestly...Tony May (talk) 14:01, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

48151 Article

Stop purposely removing my images from articles as it's like you dislike all of my work and would rather see others photos in articles and mine in none. Also with regard to your spelling of Conway that is the incorrect spelling as it was correct prior to your tampering with it as it's spelt Conwy, the way you've spelt it leads to a page that doesnt exist. It's spelt as Conwy NOT Conway. Here is the article to show how it's spelt, so DO NOT change that again. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conwy_Valley_line

With the article photograph again leave it as was, there is nothing wrong with that photograph at all. It's almost like your bullying me into removing every single photograph from articles.

48151 Article

What is your problem with my photographs as your being rather harsh towards me for having photos in any article, also you once again mis-spelled the Conwy valley line as it leads to a page that doesnt exist. Read the link I previously shared showing the proper spelling before you change it to an incorrect spelling as your destroying the article.

48151 photos and article

Looking at the photographs each one is impressive but every single one has been took by one individual which does seem like you want anothers images on every single article. Numerous photos are clearly snaps from YouTube video's and others have multiple faults in them. Mine however doesnt have the sun reflecting off the engine and is focused more on the steam engine, while some others are good they are all from exactly the same person so seems like you want they're photo to be at the top of the article.

Also you have once again changed the spelling for the Conwy Valley Line, this is leading to a no page error. Other people besides myself will want that reverting back to what it was as it is spelt under it's welsh name, not english. Read the article and you will see how it's spelt unless you plan to change the name for that too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conwy_Valley_line

Conwy Valley Line

You say it's called Conway Valley Line then explain why it's called Conwy Valley Line in the article, the way your spelling it leads to a no page error which will irritate other users. It's the same with articles like Settle and Carlisle as we dont spell it as Settle and Carlile, you seriously need to look at how the article is spelt before you change the text to something that will confuse people as the way it was lead to the article. The way you had it spelt again led to a no page error, which is something we dont want.

OK, let's deal with the photographs first, then your inability to use English second .Tony May (talk) 00:46, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

haha, as I've told Redrose1964, WP:GNL is WP:NOTPOLICY - it's a WP:ESSAY, which doesn't say anything about steam engines. I have no doubt that corpus research would demonstrate the use of "she" to both widespread and with a long history. Tony May (talk) 03:00, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

45699 Galatea page

What the hell is your problem with my content, your just using a single individuals photos off flickr in a bid to get rid of every single photograph I have up in an article. I bet your just doing this out of spite to try and stop me from having a single photo up in an article, claiming im doing it as self promotion which is 100% bullshit. Your just using another individuals photos which I reacon has been done without their permission, either upload one of your own photos to wiki or dont bother changing it as without that image there wouldnt have been an image for the article. It's the same story with the saint and county as they havent got one yet and NO I havent seen either yet.

Just to clarify. No, I'm using freely available photos off flickr. There are not many flickr photographers who licence their images appropriately, but the choice of photograph is based on technical merit, not who took them. Your own choices are based entirely on the fact that you took them. Tony May (talk) 00:29, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

5593, 46100 articles

Once again you deleted my photographs from these articles and left the others that were there in a bid to get rid of my images to try and make me look like a shit photographer. Had I not taken those photos some articles would not have had a photograph on them, and just so you know that photo of Kolhapur in Southport was taken by my father NOT me. You seem to want to have all my photos taken off articles for no reason at all and let other peoples crapper photos take their place. You seriously need to knock it in the head where you purposely delete my photos and replace them out of spite with anothers work. Otherwise I will have to take action.

These are not your articles to insert your technically poor photos into. I don't need to make you look like a "shit photographer" (your words) - you're managing that all by yourself on Flickr. Not putting bad photos in Wikipedia is going to hide your photography anyway, so no-one will think it's "shit". Tony May (talk) 00:27, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

My Photos

I'll have you know my photographs arent taken with a camera phone, they are taken with my Nikon camera. So dont go saying I use a phone camera as atleast my photos are better than Richard Harnetty's. User:Moylesey98 01:30, 15 March 2019

Thanks Dave; the main determinant of a photograph is the photographer, not the kit - so it's a bit of a waste of an expensive camera. (btw, which lenses do you use?). And who is Richard Harnetty this guy? Why is that relevant? Why are you attacking him? His photos, although not consistently great, are generally speaking significantly better than yours. This, for example, is a fantastic shot. Tony May (talk) 01:39, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, Fram has posted for help at WT:TWP. As Redrose64 is possibly WP:INVOLVED, I'm going to have a say.
  1. The edit warring stops, here and now. Wherever there are images in dispute between the pair of you, they are not to be changed by either you, Tony May, or by you, Moylesey98 on pain of a block. Any other editor in good standing may change a disputed image on grounds of quality.
  2. Quality, and quality alone, is the factor by which an image should be judged. It matters not who took the image. A good picture taken by A. N. Other outranks a mediocre picture taken by Jimbo Wales. The same appies to images taken by the pair of you. Got that? Good. Now, let's get back to work improving Wikipedia and stop wasting everyone's time with petty squabbles. Mjroots (talk) 08:48, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Let me summarise this then user:Mjroots

  • I am in total agreement with you about the use of images. I have been saying exactly this for some time. I have no problem with it whatsoever.
  • I'm not permitted in future to remove inadequate images from Wikipedia articles in the instances where those particular images have been taken by Dave, in case it upsets him.

Can you confirm the above understanding is correct? Tony May (talk) 12:50, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify, if "Dave" (Moylesey98?) placed the image which you object to in the article, then you are not to remove it. By all means raise a discussion either at an appropriate Wikiproject or on the article's talk page. Any other editor is free to edit. The restriction applies both ways, as I can't impose it on one editor and not the other, no matter who is "at fault". Hope you understand why that is the situation. Mjroots (talk) 12:55, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Following a report at WP:ANEW, I discovered that the clear instruction I gave above was not adhered to. I've issued a block, and rolled back the two edits that were in breach of the above restrictions, which remain in place. Your continued co-operation is appreciated. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from London and North Eastern Railway into LNER ships. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Critiques of photographs

I am prepared to accept criticism. I am not prepared to accept abuse. Wikipedia is intended as a record of accurate information, not as a gallery for pretty pictures. London Overground's Class 378s are receiving a new livery, for which the pictures that I've taken are the only examples. Whether they meet your aesthetic standards should be neither here nor there. Unless of course you'd like to go out and take some pictures that do meet your standards. Hammersfan (talk) 17:40, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

WP:QUALITY control is important. I did not abuse you. I criticised your images. Take it like a man. We need good images, these are not "my aesthetic standards", they are common sense. I can understand that you are not an experienced photographer. That's OK. I'm not an experienced ballroom dancer, so I don't video my dancing and try to put it into the top of the article on ballroom dancing, because I recognise my limitations. Tony May (talk) 01:10, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Tony, stating "you are not an experienced photographer", based on your opinion of a small handful of photographs, is being overly judgemental and verging on an attack. You were warned about this on Commons when you made the same misjudged opinion of myself [4]. I would strongly advise you to lay off your vendetta against photographs that do not meet your personal standard, as you are not making any friends here. — O Still Small Voice of Clam 05:30, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's not, Voice of Clam. Trust me, I've scrolled through https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:ListFiles?limit=500&user=Hammersfan&ilshowall=1 - although some of the ship photos are OK, the train photos are hardly professional standard; in fact they indeed barely adequate for the purposes to which we need to put them. I can't find one single photograph in that list that is well-composed or properly exposed, even accidentally - but if you can, please post it here. Tony May (talk) 05:43, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You are digging yourself deeper into a hole that you may not be able to climb out of. And changing someone elses comments, even just a header, is not helping you at all. — O Still Small Voice of Clam 06:32, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the simple advice. If only others would listen to mine... Tony May (talk) 06:38, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion at WikiProject UK Railways

Please note I have raised a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject UK Railways#Continual criticisms by Tony May that concerns you. — O Still Small Voice of Clam 17:42, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If I hadn't developed a thick skin from many years of editing Wikipedia, your allegation that I "ought to learn how Wikipedia works" would be insulting - as it is, it is simply laughable. If anything, it is you who cannot grasp the basic principle that Wikipedia is a collaborative effort. This means that we work together towards a common goal. Yes, we have disagreements, but we treat each others opinions with respect, and we realise that each of us have skills and abilities to improve the encylopedia.
For example, this means we don't need to try to score "points" by pointing out spelling mistakes. If it's in an article, we just correct it; if it's a comment on a talk page we ignore it.
After careful consideration, I have decided not to bring your behaviour to AN at present, but if I see any more unnecessary criticism from you against myself or anyone else, I will have no hesitation in doing so. Please consider this a final warning. — O Still Small Voice of Clam 17:57, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

BR class 07

Hi,

The photo you keep wanting to use is awful, it is a bad scan of what looks like an instamatic print and is, frankly unusable. Secondly the picture hides the distinguishing feature of the class, ie it is a centre cab. Your preferred picture makes it look more like an 03. Using it justs makes the page look shoddy and amateurish.

I would also dispute that it is a preservation era photo as the loco is not preserved but was retained by BR and, I believe, was still owned by them at the time the photo was taken. What is this obsession with not using preservation era photos anyway? By all means use BR era photos where good ones are available but this is just silly.

" you have a lot of crap that you are trying to deal with. "

I have no idea what you mean by that, or how much you know. But if you do, I will see that as an extreme form of OUTING and will respond appropriately, through T&S in San Francisco, and I will attempt to obtain the same sort of ban as is applied to Fram. This is not public information on WP, and it is going to stay that way. Andy Dingley (talk) 15:43, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oh god that wasn't a threat Andy. I'm really genuinely sorry. I meant Wikipedia-crap not real life crap. I think it's genuinely making you angsty and you should really calm down. What is T&S anyway? I don't know. Tony May (talk) 15:49, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
