I see you deleted them also. I was persuaded to restore them, maybe that was a mistake. Dougweller (talk) 09:04, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

And now several editors are adding hoax AfD templates to mainspace articles. Dougweller (talk) 09:42, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for correcting this, I don't know why I missed checking for a rangeblock - not enough coffee yet this morning! JohnCD (talk) 11:08, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Hey

It was in humor, of course. Apologies if the same came out in an unintended taste. Best regards. Wifione Message 16:51, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

TenPoundHammer

Please see my comments on your block at User talk:TenPoundHammer#April 2012. I hope you'll reconsider and unblock. WJBscribe (talk) 21:50, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I agree with what User:WJBScribe wrote. That block of User:TenPoundHammer was improper and should be immediately reversed. —Lowellian (reply) 22:18, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted

I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, and our other events.

You can register now for the Berlin event and if you need financial help or visa help, just mention that in the registration form.

Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation Volunteer Development Coordinator 13:32, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

What's a skin?

I am interested in reviewing articles for submission and saw your script. The instructions began with the "add this to your skin"

What the heck is that?--Utahredrock (talk) 15:58, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

WP:SKIN. You are probably using Vector (the default skin) if you don't know what it is. T. Canens (talk) 16:00, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Schrodinger's cat

The Wikipedia article "Schrodinger's Cat" includes a diagram that I would like to copy for a forthcoming book. But there is no indication of who drew the original, or where it came from. Do you have this information? I would like to request permission from the original artist.

Thanks,

David Griffiths Physics Department Reed College — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.10.124.69 (talk) 17:27, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

If you click on the diagram, it should lead you to the file page with the information about the author. File:Schrodingers cat.svg was made by Dhatfield (talk · contribs), while File:MWI Schrodingers cat.png was by Dc987 (talk · contribs). However, neither user seems to be very active right now. As both images are licensed under the CC-BY-SA license, if you use those diagrams in accordance with the terms of the license you don't need separate permission. See commons:COM:REUSE for more information. T. Canens (talk) 17:51, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

9/11 AE case

Might I inquire as to what specific issues you saw with my editing behavior in that topic area? The comments from the other admins were thin on details and it isn't very helpful to anyone to just allude to some behavioral issue without saying how it is evidenced in my edits. Specifically, could you maybe point to the relevant parts of WP:TE, WP:DE, and WP:BATTLE that you think apply?--The Devil's Advocate (talk) 18:26, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Would you mind responding to this with some specifics. If there is a problem you see with my behavior that I am not seeing then it would only help everyone for you to explain.--The Devil's Advocate (talk) 15:09, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Greetings and Salutations, and Apologies too

Hey, my pc expired and I've been off Wikipedia for several months now. I'm semi up and running now on a netbook. I seem to recall that I had some obligations to you which were unfulfilled at the time of the PCDeath, but cannot recall the details. My sincere apologies; I hope you were not terribly inconvenienced. You can contact me here but not via email yet, still trying to get that set up. KillerChihuahua?!? 18:10, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

AE case response

Would you mind responding to my comments above? I am not sure if you missed them or just aren't responding.--The Devil's Advocate (talk) 14:35, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Considering how you have been badgering WGFinley and EdJohnston nonstop since the case closed, I'm hardly inclined to respond charitably. T. Canens (talk) 14:01, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Email

I have sent you a couple of e-mails. If you would like me to request another administrator deal with the issue please let me know. Thanks, nableezy - 19:28, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Noted. I'm checking with a few other people before taking action. T. Canens (talk) 19:32, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
I have sent email too.--Shrike (talk) 19:44, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
Are you going to respond somehow to my query."no" is answer too just please let me no.Thank you.--Shrike (talk) 08:45, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
You didn't send a query. You sent a two-sentence comment on why you don't think JS is a sock of NoCal. I looked at it and found it unpersuasive. In the future, if you desire a response, please make it more explicit. T. Canens (talk) 13:52, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
When people usually send email they usually anticipate some kind of response.--Shrike (talk) 05:43, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Please could you provide an explanation of the block that you enacted to show that this is a fair decision based on reasonable grounds. It would be helpful if you could allay the concerns of certain parties and shed light on your decision making process.
Best Wishes Ankh.Morpork 19:24, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

The block was based on behavioral evidence, including edit and edit summary similarities, as well as checkuser results that are not inconsistent with the conclusion of socking. I will not go into the details of the evidence in public, as the nature of the evidence means that it will assist the sockpuppeteer in evading detection. T. Canens (talk) 17:14, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for responding. Firstly, "checkuser results that are not inconsistent with... socking" appears to be an absence of a defence to the charges of socking but not a prima facie case for socking itself. Lack of disproof should not be adduced as proof itself. Also since the user Jeff Song began editing in 17 Nov 2010, can you specify the "edit and edit summary similarities", which prompted your 'check user' since what I can observe appears to be a shared POV but little else.
Best Wishes Ankh.Morpork 11:08, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
Yes. The primary basis for the block is behavioral evidence; the CU result confirmed that they are from the same metropolitan area. Second, no, as any "specification" will assist the user in evading detection. T. Canens (talk) 13:10, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your forthcoming explanations. I am reassured in the knowledge that "the CU result confirmed that they are from the same metropolitan area".
Best Wishes Ankh.Morpork 13:34, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

How does someone can prove that he is not a sock? What kind of proof will be considered? --Shrike (talk) 09:32, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

In general, a negative checkuser result can be substantial evidence of innocence. Otherwise, since conclusion is usually reached by behavioral comparison, different admins may come to differing conclusions, but there is little evidence one could provide to "prove innocence", since all the evidence is already laid out on wiki in the contributions. T. Canens (talk) 17:14, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

As this IP address has now transitioned into blaming me and other editors who are attempting to uphold the standards and policies of WP and due to the fact that the IP address has asked for other editors to proxy edit for them, would you be willing to reblock without talk page access as it appears that the address does not want to contribute to WP productively. SPI

Hello Tim, in a case I recently closed, I determined that the master was actually User:DonnaK97, but I just noted this in the comments section and suggested a move in my edit summary. I thought that the case would be updated to reflect the correct master, but please correct me if my assumptions were wrong, as I do enjoy amateur clerking the simpler cases, and certainly want to do things the right way. Thanks! —DoRD (talk) 19:20, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Abuse Filter on the Article Feedback Tool

Hey there :). You're being contacted because you're an edit filter manager, At the moment, we're developing Version 5 of the Article Feedback Tool, which you may or may not have heard about. If you haven't; for the first time, this will involve a free-text box where readers can submit comments :). Obviously, there's going to be junk, and we want to minimise that junk. To do so, we're working the Abuse Filter into the tool.

For this to work, we need people to write and maintain filters. I'd be very grateful if you could take a look at the discussion here and the attached docs, and comment and contribute! Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:35, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Festes was not properly archived. A second discussion that occurred is not archived. Could you please correct the error? JFHJr () 02:18, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

I have to ask: Was that really necessary, given all things moved between the pages were signed? 86.** IP (talk) 17:21, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

It's generally a good idea to keep all the page history in one place, so that diffs can be easily found if it's needed. T. Canens (talk) 17:38, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

AFC Helper script change

Problem at AfC Review Tool?

There seems to be a problem with the AfC Review Tool. When it goes to check the AfC creator's talkpage for the (possibly pre-existing) TeaHouse Invite, it gets stuck in the process and does not go beyond that action. This issue only seems to exist when the Reviewer extends the Invite, not when other aspects of the Tool are used. Shearonink (talk) 15:21, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Topic Ban Violation

Hi Timotheus, you closed this case here which resulted in GoodDay being topic banned. In the opening of the case, it was clearly understood and accepted by the mentors and GoodDay that their "comments on the talk pages often generate far too much heat, and very little light". Having noticed that GoodDay was acting in their usual provocative manner, I posted on their talk page, asking them to stop. There response was less than promising and since they now assume that talk pages are not part of the problem, I'd like to report their conduct. Where do I file a report of this nature? They clearly accept that they are banned, here and here, and despite agreeing to the ban, they are now suggesting otherwise.--Domer48'fenian' 19:27, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Have I violated my topic-ban? I've only been commenting on User-talkpages. I need clarification on this matter. GoodDay (talk) 19:34, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

To clarify, what drew my attention to this issue was the level of abuse that the discussion had descended too, and then the clear provocation which to me would have a very obvious outcome. The last thing we need is the proxy provocation I outlined in my post. --Domer48'fenian' 20:07, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
Usually, per WP:TBAN, topic bans apply to all namespaces unless they explicitly say otherwise. In this case, though, I'll defer to your mentors as to the scope of this topic ban. T. Canens (talk) 02:57, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Making snide comments about other users on a user talk page in lieu of an article talk page violates the spirit of the topic ban, if not the letter. It's two days after the fact, but I thought a lesson still needs to be learned to prevent reoccurrence, so I requested an administrator to apply a 31hour block.
