Candidate Articles

The first article I decided to pick was North Salem Town Hall[1]. This article caught my eye because I grew up North Salem, so I know that I’d enjoy researching and writing about this building that I’ve seen countless times. After a cursory search of the topic, I decided that it would make for a good candidate article because there were several sources (such as Westchester Historical Society) that had information on the North Salem Town Hall. I also believe that I have enough conceptual accessibility to make a meaningful contribution to this article.

The next article that I decided to pick was also involving my hometown: Union Hall (North Salem, New York)[2]. Union Hall is actually only like five minutes away from my house and I’ve been to it many times. Similarly to the last article, I think this would be a good candidate article because I have a lot of conceptual accessibility regarding the topic and I was able to find several sources with information on the topic.

Lastly, I decided to choose Federal Office Building (New York)[3] as my third candidate article. The article looked interesting and I was able to find a few sources that talked about the significance of the location and why it made it onto the U.S. list of national historic places. There isn’t too much written about Federal Office Building, but I figured it must have a lot of historical significance because it made it on the national historic places list. I also think that I have enough conceptual accessibility to be able to make a significant contribution to the article.

Reflection of Peer Review

The peer review activity highlighted some of the weaknesses of my articles. By evaluating my classmate's articles, I realized how important it is to have independent and reliable sources and a notable topics. I originally had trouble finding articles that sounded interesting to me, but I just realized that I can find articles by topic if I search for them through the community portal. I still haven't found any articles that I'm too interested in, but I'm continuing to search for potential articles.

Final Article Selection

I decided to not use any of the three articles I originally wanted to use because I couldn't find enough reputable sources on those topics. Instead, I found an article under the wikiprojects section of the community portal that seemed really interesting. The article "History of London (1900-39)" interests me because there was so much going on in London during this time period, yet the article is only a few paragraphs long. I think there are a lot of different topics I can incorporate and expand on in this article and I plan to focus on architecture of that time period and the economy of that time period. I feel comfortable with this article because there are many available sources on this topic.
