Information icon Hello, I'm Begoon. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Anuj Sharma (IPS), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Begoon 17:08, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Begoon Sir I update the article form the office of Commissioner of Police Kolkata. All information given in the page are from verified source. Please keep the changes+ — Preceding unsigned comment added by SwagataChoudhuri (talkcontribs) 04:48, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As explained above, you need to provide the reliable source(s) for any content you add, in the manner described at WP:REFB. It's no use whatsover just saying "I update the article form the office of Commissioner of Police Kolkata. All information given in the page are from verified source." if you don't provide that source in a properly formatted way that other people can follow. We are not mind readers, so unless you provide the information properly we cannot verify what you have added. Read the links provided, and provide proper reliable source(s) and, if the information is notable enough for inclusion, it can be considered. Otherwise it cannot. You haven't even given a url, so where anyone would begin to verify your additions is a mystery. -- Begoon 04:57, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced material to Wikipedia, as you did at Anuj Sharma (IPS).

  • No matter how many times you submit this it is still unsourced. I have tried to help you above, but this is now becoming disruptive, See WP:CIR
  • Additionally a lot of the autobiographical detail you are submitting is too detailed. Wikipedia isn't a place to publish resumes.
  • You need to submit your own references, in the proper format. I can't go through all your text and do that for you.
  • You need to be able to edit with a level of competence to add content to wikipedia.
  • Have you considered editing the wikipedia in your native language? See List of Wikipedias#List. Begoon 08:38, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sir, if we go to website https://ips.gov.in/Ips_er_sheet1.aspx , from there to http://policeservicemedals.gov.in/ips_ersheet_new/home.aspx then Enter Batch - 1991, Select Cadre - West Bengal, Click Submit. From the result page - Click the link "View ER SHEET" in row of Shri Anuj Sharma, details about Shri Anuj Sharma IPS will show up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SwagataChoudhuri (talkcontribs) 11:52, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That's nice for you. That should make life nice and easy for you when you follow the instructions at WP:REFB to create references. If you are now, finally going to submit properly referenced text please ensure that it is written in grammatically correct English and only includes important content - not trivia about his relatives/childhood/hobbies etc.
Under no circumstances should you submit unreferenced content again - it will simply be removed, and your account may be blocked. Remember WP:CIR (you did read it, didn't you?) Thanks. -- Begoon 12:08, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, and this is important - you must write using your own words. You may not copy or cut and paste from another publication, because that would be a copyright infringement.
  • If you are not able to do the things I list above, then I'm afraid you are not able to edit wikipedia. You could still post suggestions on talk pages in that case - or, as I suggested above, find a wikipedia written in your native language from List of Wikipedias#List and edit there. -- Begoon 12:22, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Sir. Therefore I may kindly edit this page with further information along with necessary reference citations with your kind concurrence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SwagataChoudhuri (talkcontribs)

I'd prefer it if you put what you want to add at User:SwagataChoudhuri/sandbox so that it can be checked before adding to the live article - I have to be honest and say that your responses haven't filled me with confidence that you understand the requirements:
  • Everything must be referenced to reliable sources - WP:RS
  • Everything must be written in your own words
  • Everything must use grammatically correct English
  • Only include important content - not trivia about his relatives/childhood/hobbies etc.
and then be patient after adding it to User:SwagataChoudhuri/sandbox, it will take at least a day, perhaps 2, to find time to check it. -- Begoon 15:13, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Begoon Sir, may I submit a picture of Mr Anuj Sharma IPS that was published in a news website? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SwagataChoudhuri (talkcontribs) 12:34, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you can find a suitable picture of him published by the Government of India that may be acceptable, as Government of India publications are released under a free license.
  • And a note - just typing @ in front of my name doesn't let me know I have a message - instead you should use {{ping|Begoon}} (without the nowiki tags), like this: @Begoon: -- Begoon 13:29, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Sir @Begoon:. May the picture of the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata available at official website http://kolkatapolice.gov.in/ be given to wikipedia ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SwagataChoudhuri (talkcontribs) 14:11, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've added some more of the content from your sandbox, and I think that is enough detail now - remember this an encyclopedia article, not a CV/resume. -- Begoon 15:50, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Sir @Begoon:. We have the original picture from which the picture of Anuj Sharma that is available at http://kolkatapolice.gov.in was created. The original picture was cropped and its background was changed. May the original picture be given to the sandbox article ? SwagataChoudhuri (talk) 11:18, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Where does the original photograph come from?
  • Who created it?
  • Who holds the copyright to it?
  • Has it been previously published online? If so, where?
  • Can you provide evidence of the copyright holder releasing it under a compatible, free, license?
You can see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials if you know or can contact the copyright holder. They (not you) would need to follow the steps there. -- Begoon 11:27, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @Begoon: Sir. I shall try to address these questions. Please note that, in the live Wikipedia article about Anuj Sharma (IPS) the word "and" may be omitted after "DIG" and the word "from" may be added after "West Bengal" in the line "August 5, 2009 and DIG and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) West Bengal August 6, 2009 to July 20, 2011." The word "from" may be added after word "Region" in the line "In 2012 he received promotion to the rank of Inspector General of Police and served as IGP North Bengal Region June 19, 2012 to March 19". -- SwagataChoudhuri (talk) 11:58, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You can make those changes yourself if you feel confident. If not then let me know and I'll look at them. -- Begoon 12:12, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

After everything we said, why have you uploaded that image to Commons as "own work"? It is not your own work and claiming it is is fraudulent. You have uploaded it with a false copyright claim, when all you had to do was wait. Why could you not just be patient and wait for the answer on the copyright question? That's really infuriating and makes me regret any effort I've put in to help you with it. Now I will need to sort out the mess you have made of it to try to avoid it being deleted. -- Begoon 12:05, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Begoon: Sir, I am extremely sorry for what I did, it was an inadvertent mistake from my part. I am sorry that I have unintentionally broken the rules. This will never happen again from me. Please forgive me. I hurried with my very limited understanding of the rules in image uploading to Wikipedia. This is never happen again. Kindly consider me. -- SwagataChoudhuri (talk) 12:06, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Begoon: Sir, I promise that from now on I will be patient and responsible with editing Wikipedia. Please forgive me. -- SwagataChoudhuri (talk) 12:12, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a question of me 'forgiving you'. The problem is the lack of competence you are displaying. You don't help matters by talking nonsense like "it was an inadvertent mistake from my part" What? You inadvertently downloaded the file from the IPS website, then you inadvertently uploaded it to Commons, inadvertently made a false claim that you were the author and inadvertently made another false claim that it was your own work, all while inadvertently completely ignoring what I had told you about simply needing to wait? Can you not see how ridiculous that sounds?

Anyway, there is now a discussion at c:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Anuj Sharma IPS.jpg to determine whether or not the image can be kept. You now need to wait until that discussion concludes, however long it takes. -- Begoon 12:47, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Begoon: Sir. I have updated the sandbox article with an image of Anuj Sharma IPS that is available at Wikimedia Commons. I have added a few more bits of information in the article also. Please have a look, whether it is ok or not. -- SwagataChoudhuri (talk) 15:09, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'll consider having a look if and when you give me a truthful, believable and honest explanation as to how the additional image, which you had already described to me above, here on this page, just happened to be magically uploaded at Commons by a new user, created precisely while you were editing the sandbox article, so that you could insert it there within minutes of it appearing. When I say "truthful, believable and honest", by the way, I mean exactly what I say. -- Begoon 15:21, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

@Begoon: Sir, I am currently working for Kolkata Police Force, Department of Home and Hill Affairs, Governement of West Bengal, India as a technical staff. While editing the Wikipedia article about Shri Anuj Sharma IPS initially, I mentioned that all the information has been officially provided by the office of the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata to me through proper channel. Later, when I talked about having in possession the image of Shri Anuj Sharma, I mentioned that we (and not 'me' alone) have the image of the incumbent Commissioner of Police of Kolkata, Shri Anuj Sharma IPS. This was not approved by you earlier as you expressed doubt about its originality/copyright or otherwise if I am not wrong.

Now, that the original image has been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (ticket #2019061710008531) by the user 'Calbag75' (a sworn law enforcement officer himself) and confirmed by the Wikimedia Commons, I am currently working on the said Wikipedia page. I was also kept in loop about events related to the ticket #2019061710008531.

Thereafter, I had updated the sandbox article with this above noted image. I hope you would now understand and help me out to enrich the Wikipedia page from the Sandbox. Please note that the incumbent Commissioner of Police of Kolkata Shri Anuj Sharma IPS is a public figure by the dint of his chair and position he holds in office. Regards, --SwagataChoudhuri (talk) 12:19, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In that case you need to read what I am going to post below. The fact that you have not been fully open about this is a concern. If you had been open and clear from the beginning then a lot less of your, and my time would have been wasted. I'm also surprised, to be blunt, if you are doing this in an official capacity, by your poor communication skills. -- Begoon 12:26, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, SwagataChoudhuri. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Begoon 12:26, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please make sure that you carefully read all of the information above and take any necessary action as explained. You should, as explained, suggest any further edits on the article talk page. You can link to your sandbox in those requests, but be aware that it is currently quite poorly formatted and contains too much detail, particularly in the Career section. Good luck with your future suggestions. -- Begoon 12:56, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • I reverted your addition to the article talk page because you have not followed the above instructions with regards to declaring your COI. If you are now claiming that you do not have a COI please make that clear. Otherwise comply with the guidelines. Additionally, if you are paid, receive, or expect to receive, compensation in any way at all by the organisation for whom you are requesting changes to content then you must make the declaration(s) described at WP:PAID.

    If you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit (your "employer"), who the client is, and any other relevant role or relationship. It does not matter whether you are paid directly by the client, or paid indirectly by an employer on behalf of the client. Editors who receive payment for their edits or actions on the English Wikipedia must comply with both the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use and the local policies and guidelines of the English Wikipedia. -- Begoon 14:23, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • On this one occasion I have made your requested change. Ensure that any further requests are fully compliant or the changes will not be made. -- Begoon 14:44, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Begoon: Sir. As you mentioned that there is an issue of Conflict Of Interest in editing the page of Anuj Sharma IPS, I would like to state that I am just a salaried employee of Kolkata Police Organization. As I found the live Wikipedia article about present Commissioner of Kolkata Police Shri Anuj Sharma IPS to be incomplete, I wanted to add further information to the article. This was a voluntary attempt to put facts about the present Commissioner of Police, Kolkata in the accessible and recognized custody of Wikipedia, so that people can know about him. It was done in the interest of public. I have not been paid by the Kolkata Police Organization specifically for this work and I am not going to receive anything from any source in future also. I hope I have explained my position. Please update the live article with information from sandbox page that Anuj Sharma IPS was awarded with President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services (PPMDS) in 2016. With regards SwagataChoudhuri (talk) 11:36, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Read and understand Template:Request edit/Instructions#For submitters
  2. Use the {{request edit}} template. Post it on the article talk page and make your suggestion underneath it. Wait for someone to respond. -- Begoon 14:48, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
