Hey, Snowmanradio, with a colourful username like that you should have a userpage! JFW | T@lk 16:52, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Nice haematology edits. Are you a clinician or a lab scientist? JFW | T@lk 23:57, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Ipswich museum

Do you know enough about the Ipswich museum to write an wiki page about it? Snowman 14:37, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

There seems to already be a Ipswich Museum article. I don't know what you mean, sorry! Celardore 16:06, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Kell antigen nomenclature

Hi, I noticed that you have written the Kell antigens as K1, K2, etc on the HDN page. We were trying to track down a standard way of writing them on the new Kell page but hadn't run across anything documenting that way of writing the different antigens. I realize that there may not be a standardized way, but I'd appreciate any insight into where the K1 came from! InvictaHOG 22:33, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Beatles oldies side1.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Beatles oldies side1.JPG. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 10:04, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Copyright problems with Image:Sg peppers pict.JPG

An image that you uploaded, Image:Sg peppers pict.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

Minor edits

Remember to mark your edits as minor only when they genuinely are (see Wikipedia:Minor edit). "The rule of thumb is that an edit of a page that is spelling corrections, formatting, and minor rearranging of text should be flagged as a 'minor edit'." --Gray Porpoise 01:19, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

It is useful to have a definition of a minor edit. Snowman 17:38, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: medical advice

Re: medical advice, which pages/edits in particular did you have in mind? I'm happy to modify them so as not to violate the policy against providing medical advice, although I do think information about commonly used symptoms, treatments, etc should be included in a general way. BMI

I was surprised to see someone with your contribs history create BMI Chart (height 150 - 174cm). I am sure this would never survive an AfD discussion. Try it at Wikibooks. -- RHaworth 11:11, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I wrote it. I am interested in perl. Snowman 11:14, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

The talk page may well get deleted along with the article. I suggest you repeat the PHP code at Talk:Body mass index. -- RHaworth 12:30, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

It is perl code. What is a AfD discussion? Snowman 13:08, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

AfD is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/BMI Chart (height 150 - 174cm) - you contributed to it a moment ago! -- RHaworth 18:56, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

It has survived an AfD discussion and some people do support this new page. Snowman 08:06, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

You do say some weird things. You cannot say it has survived until the discussion is closed. -- RHaworth 08:59, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

It has survived and that is official now. Snowman 08:40, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Move

You should be able to move War Memorial Park, since nothing exists at the destination page War Memorial Park (Coventry); just click on the "move" tab on that page and specify the destination. The only reason I can think for moving it would be if you are going to create a disambiguation page at War Memorial Park linking to the other pars of that name. If you have any trouble moving it, let me know and I'll do it (otherwise I think it's good for you to learn how to do it on your own!) - Nunh-huh 14:12, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Snowman 14:22, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

BMI graph

I've been working on a graph for much of the night now but have been unsuccessful. I will keep trying, but have a busy schedule for the rest of the week. Can you create a script to give me the raw data for the weight at which the BMI is 18.5, 30, 35, and 40 for each height between 1.5 and 2.0 meters? That might help (I've been writing macros tonight but didn't think to break out perl!) You can just e-mail it to me if you get ahold of it... InvictaHOG 04:17, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

The perl script should be easy and I hope to work on it some time over the week end. Snowman 08:11, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
I am not sure how to use the wiki email. Snowman 08:47, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
I went ahead and uploaded another graph but didn't realize that others were working on it. I had gone ahead and plugged it into the article, but I understand if we need to change it! InvictaHOG 04:09, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Eastriggs police station

Hi Snowman, there is currently no police station in operation in Eastriggs, however there could possibly be a military-police presence at the MOD. site (E.S.D. Eastriggs). The general area is covered by the Annan police station. =Red Sunset 12:52, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Spring Road bridge photo

Creepy... If I go out my front door and look right, that photo is almost the view I see! Cєlαя∂σяєTalk 17:35, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Just a coincidence; it is a prominent landmark. Snowman 22:10, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Annan and Chapelcross

I restored the Chapelcross image to the Annan page as your edit broke the formatting of the gallery. I'd argue too that the power station is visible from the town, and that it is (pending its demolition) the most noteworthy landmark of the town, although it lies a few miles outside the town. --Guinnog 11:07, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Starling

The images are both good - the family page bird is an immature female in winter, very spotty, and the Oregon image is an adult male in summer, glossy, little spotting on the underparts except the vent area (back not really visible) elongated throat feathers. I can understand your query though! jimfbleak 15:50, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Planet Earth edits

I'm sorry: I had to revert these. Please see the article's Talk page. I respect the time you took to write them and if you'd like to provide the "Great Plains" summary after its broadcast, then be my guest. Otherwise, there is a de facto limit on the length of the summaries to ensure balance between each episode's coverage and consistency with those in the other David Attenborough ('Life') series articles. Vandalism

For what it's worth, the banner you removed from Hemolytic anemia because it was, as you said, vandalism was placed there by me. My reason for doing so is that the disease is listed on the List of dog diseases, and I tried to tag all of those articles with the dogs banner. I am also in the process of listing all of the red links on all of the pages that have been tagged with the banner to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Dogs/Requested articles, so I could even argue that, to a degree, something positive might have been accomplished by having it put there. I am in no way, shape, or form objecting to the banner's removal, as I know that there are probably other projects that engage in assessment which apply to the articles I have tagged as well. However, I do know that I was intending to assess all the articles on which the banner was placed (I'm the de facto assessment department of most of the projects I belong to), so I hope you can understand why I, in at least this instance, think that using the banner placement "vandalism" might be a little too prejudicial. But, like I said, no objections to seeing the banner removed, and sorry if I was out of line in placing it there. Badbilltucker 20:47, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

It was because I did not see the connection to "hemolytic anaemia" and "dogs" at first. As far as I am aware the "Hemolytic anaemia" page refers to human disease only. There is no reason why there should not be another page called something like "Hemolytic anaemia in dogs". I would guess that there would be some similarities between the disease in humans and in dogs, but I do not know much about dog diseases to start a stub myself. Snowman 21:03, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Galah

G'day. AFAIK anyone can assess an article, although it's something I've not been involved in. I can see that the importance might be different for different projects, and that Galah might be more important in an Oz context than a global bird project, but the quality criteria should be the same for both - to me it's definitely better than a start article. I'll reassess and wait for the flak (esp as a Pom) jimfbleak 13:36, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Blackbird

Hi, I reverted your last edit to Blackbird for the following reasons

  1. There is already an "otheruses" which includes Red-winged Blackbird
  2. There is an "other blackbirds" section which includes Red-winged Blackbird
  3. "American blackbird" is misleading - there are several icterids with "blackbird" in the name, even if American is taken in the narrow sense of North American. I've also never heard Red-winged called American blackbird.

I know you're a careful and conscientious editor, so I felt that I should explain why I had changed the edit. jimfbleak 06:41, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the information. I thought the new blackbird text looked a bit clumsy; actually, I only put the italics marks in, after another editor wrote the text including the phrase American blackbird, which I was not sure of either. Snowman 11:32, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Health Wiki Research

A colleague and I are conducting a study on health wikis. We are looking at how wikis co-construct health information and create communities. We noticed that you are a frequent contributor to Wikipedia on health topics.

Please consider taking our survey here.

This research will help wikipedia and other wikis understand how health information is co-created and used.

We are from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The project was approved by our university research committee and members of the Wikipedia Foundation.

Coombs test

I disagree with you about the style of the article. I might be wrong but my understanding is that articles should be understandable to people of average intelligence. I could not follow this article because of the specialized vocabulary used. I noticed instances where terms were used without links to other articles.

  • RBCs was not defined. I found out that it means red blood cells. I'm not sure if RBC's means the same thing.
  • I linked IgG to Immunoglobulin G
  • I changed venipuncture to "drawing blood" and created a link.

I see that you have spent time on this page and I thank you for your effort. I do not mean to be negatively critical. I gave up editing the article because I don't know enough and I don't want to corrupt an article that could be vital to some users. I added the template because I think the article needs some TLC by someone who is more informed than I am. I'm not going to revert your edit because I don't think it would help. I will watch the page and if I have time I will try to become better informed and improve it myself. --Droll 10:24, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Some topics are complex and this is one of them. In order to fully understand the topic you would need to know a bit about haematology and the page has plenty of links to direct you to relavant pages. The article starts at a basic level with more complex aspects included for specialists, as in line with the principals of the wiki. A number of people have worked on the page over the months and have made the article as good as it is. There is a to-do list on the discusssion page. Thank you for pointing out your difficulties, and I will reassess the page with your comments in mind. Snowman 12:04, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, I got through it much better this time. --Droll 21:32, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Marfan Syndrome Article Graffiti Attacks

I have reviewed the history of changes on the Marfan Syndrome article over the past few weeks and have noticed an occasional graffito is written into the article. The vandals perpetrating these attacks usually do it without logging in, thus leaving no contributor trace. I recommend that whenever any of the responsibly acting contributors log in to do some more editing, first look at the most recent edit. If it is an anonymous edit, just revert the article to the previous edit before doing more edits. Leeirons 13:37, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

I think that you are stating the obvious that it is generally optional to sign-in to edit. Anyway, the history diff will show changes made. Snowman 22:06, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:St michael 14d06.jpg

Thanks for uploading :Image:St michael 14d06.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Flying Canuck 22:53, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

You probably added this about 1 minute after I uploaded the photograph. I have uploaded more than 75 photos to the wiki and I usually add the licence tag after adding the image, because I add a summary box with it. Please give editors time to finish what they are doing.
