Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

This is the full answer to your query at Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. You can post questions and comments freely in the talk pages if you wish, just not in the formal discussions until qualified. OK? Selfstudier (talk) 11:57, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Selfstudier, I appreciate you took the time to send this.
I am not sure I understand yet, sorry for my ignorance,
Is this not about editing? I did not make an edit.
If it is about my question in the discussion, I don't understand, does this not comply with guidelins?
Thank you Sheesheesh (talk) 12:03, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You cannot participate in formal discussions, it doesn't matter what form that takes. If you look at WP:ARBECR which I linked when striking your comments, it says there "However, non-extended-confirmed editors may not make edits to internal project discussions related to the topic area, even within the "Talk:" namespace. Internal project discussions include, but are not limited to, AfDs, WikiProjects, RfCs, RMs, and noticeboard discussions"Selfstudier (talk) 12:12, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In case it is still unclear, an "edit" is anything you write. Selfstudier (talk) 12:15, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand.
So why this specific comment and not others? Sheesheesh (talk) 12:16, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
? I struck all your comments. Selfstudier (talk) 12:27, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, but what is the reason?
I do not understand yet, what the reason is.
I was able to write comments, I based my questions on proper sources, and I did not use inappropriate language. Sheesheesh (talk) 12:57, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just explained all that above, you don't have 500edits or 30 days tenure and so you cannot edit AI articles or in formal discussions. You can edit on the talk page generally if you wish. Selfstudier (talk) 13:01, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
