Johnetta Elzie
Your proposal to add information about her Elzie's role in the Movement for Black Lives and black feminism sounds good - I think it will help the article be more informative. I also think the article could benefit by adding information about the following:
- Elzie's involvement with We The Protestors and This is the Movement. The lead section mentions both, but the article doesn't describe her role with either in much detail.
- Her friendship with DeRay Mckeeson. What's their story? Has he commented on how he's gotten more media attention than her?
I think these are great suggestions!
Here’s the blurb I would add for We the Protestors
“Elize’s involvement with We the Protesters, an activist group focused on compiling collective demands for policy changes from a variety of African American groups, started with the shooting of Michael Brown and the uprising of Ferguson. She is part of the planning team for the organization.”
DeRay Mckeeson has actually commented on how she has gotten less publicity than her. For example, he stated publicly on twitter that he refused to read the New York Times piece on the both of them because it barely covered Johnetta. I can cite the tweet itself for this. ~ Searui
Black Feminism
It's interesting that BLM was started by black female activists. It would be informative for you to provide specific names in this case.
Some specific names for the founders of BLM I will mention and elaborate on are Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi, and Patrisse Cullors. ~ Searui
Mass Incarceration
Mass Incarceration is a term used by social activists to describe the substantial increase in the number of incarcerated people in United States’ prisons over the past forty years, the incarcerated predominately being Black, Latino, and/or living in poverty. Is this a quote from Source 1? If not, I suggest removing the apostrophe after "United States."
If you plan to focus the article on the social movement against mass incarceration, consider changing the title of the article to reflect this.
