I'm thrilled to see you are addressing the views expressed on some psychiatry-related topics. I've had the honour of defending the medical viewpoint in a few discussions, despite having had fairly limited exposure to clinical psychiatry.

When it comes to what we should perhaps call clinical apologetics, the most important character attribute is patience, followed by persistence. We have several key policies, and citing them judiciously is a vital tool in guiding debates on article content: WP:NPOV (bias issues), WP:NOR (brand new theories and interpretations), WP:V and WP:CITE (accuracy and verifiability issues), and the guidelines WP:AGF (assume good faith) and WP:NPA (no personal attacks). If a debate is unsolveable, early requests for community opinion on WP:RFC can be very helpful. Irrational attacks and undesirable behaviour is best reported on WP:ANI (the administrators' noticeboard).

Hi !

I just wanted to say "hi" ... I'm fairly new to Wikipedia, a layperson, and have been attemtping (mostly in vain), for about a month, to clean up the Tourette syndrome article. If you ever want to have a look, I could sure use some input ... I'm not a good writer, or a medical professional, but the article was in such dismal shape at the end of '05, that I decided to dig in and do what I could! Sandy 22:03, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Anti-psychiatry

Thanks for your praise! It been hard work (perhaps the most difficult experience i've had on Wikipedia so far) but worth it. And i've learnt a lot about the field of psychiatry in the process. “Medicine” on MCOTW

After a bit of inactivity, Medicine has been selected as the new medicine collaboration of the week. I am taking the unusual step of informing all participants, not just those who voted for it, since I feel that it is important that this highest-level topic for our collaboration be extremely well-written. In addition, it is a core topic for Wikipedia 1.0 and serves as the introduction to our other articles. Yet general articles are the ones that are most difficult for individuals to write, which is why I have invited all participants. Hi Scot,

I noticed that you are a physician working in psychiatry, and thought you might be interested in this project which I am involved in, The Psychology Wiki.

I won't say too much, as I'd like you to judge it for yourself, but you should find that it is different from Wikipedia, because approximately 90% of our contributors so far are psychologists, academics, or students and trainees.

Its hosted by a company called Wikia, which was founded by Jimmy Wales and Angela Beesley. There are Google Ads on the site, but we dont make money from the project, they're just to pay for the bandwidth, storage and technical support that Wikia give us.

Have a look and see what you think. You may enjoy contributing in an academic community.
