BRUNO P.DORI redux

SATORI, VASCO here,

This BRUNO P.DORI situation is getting out of hand, my friend, this guy is either sick in the head or trying to get on our nerves, either way, this is not the way i want to spend my Holidays so i'll give it a rest for now...

4 the time being, here is their new IP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/189.72.117.134) To see how disruptive he is being, here is this diff: In Damià Abella's article (another player connected in past with FC BARCELONA, BRUNO's sole obsession), in PLAYER POSITION i wrote, to compress infobox "Midfielder/defender". Well, we reverted it 3 or 4 times to "Midfielder / Defender".

How many IPs? I am counting so far almost 20, much more on the way i fear. How many revertings in, for instance, Albert Jorquera? More than the double, and counting...

Something you said in an early exchange got me thinking: you mentioned some folks can make your wiki-life miserable when being threatened and/or blocked. Maybe this is the case, and "our man" knows very much exactly what he is doing. If so, pityful, feel for him...

Incredibly, with the Sergio Busquets protected and all, they still managed to enter it (as did i afterwards) and proceed to "contribute". Little doubt in my mind, i think they are doing this to get on my case. My friend SATORI, honestly, this is getting way out of hand; if you tell me there is no chance this "person"'s actions will result in a block, i respect your decision, also stopping immediately to follow this case, this is getting EXTREMELY extreme, as I told you before, we are dealing with a mental case (no disrespect, no personal attacks, retarded people "happen" all the time, everywhere, why not at WIKIPEDIA?

Hello, Vasco. I've re-protected Sergi Busquets, blocked the latest sock IP's, and indefinitely blocked the main account. I've also implemented some short term range blocks, but I don't want to block half of Brazil, so the ranges are pretty narrow.

I'm not sure what else you want me to do. I know this may seem extremely troublesome to you, but it's the nature of Wikipedia that trolls and vandals who have a great deal of time on their hands will make themselves a nuisance around here. We pretty much just block them, clean up their mess, and move on. If they use another account, we block that one, clean up the mess, move on again. It can be somewhat frustrating and futile at times, but it's simply the cost of running "The free encyclopedia that anyone can edit." Just keep up the good work and try not to let it get to you. No apologies necessary whatsoever. I was just trying to help you keep things in perspective. I've been an admin here for over a year now, and I've dealt with this kind of situation many times. Sometimes it works out in the end, sometimes it doesn't, but just concentrate on doing those things you enjoy here.
To be honest, Wikipedia is going through an odd phase right now. Most of my friends I made early on here have grown disillusioned and dropped out, and many long-time admins have angrily abandoned the project. I've found the only way I enjoy this hobby anymore is to not take things too seriously - and avoid as much drama as I can.

I've issues a short block on that IP for block evasion. Technically, they're not yet "site banned", just indefinitely blocked. It's a subtle but important difference.

is-phone entry on Wikipedia

Hi

In 2007, you deleted the entry about the is-phone softphone.

is-phone is the only fully integrated softphone for IBM Unified Communications platforms, is included within the official IBM catalogue, certified for compatibility with IP PBXs from e.g. 3Com, Avaya, Nortel and Siemens and is IBM ready certified.

I therefore created a new entry "is-phone" with additional links to external sources (IBM).

Unfortunately I have set the title of the new entry to "is-phone" instead of is-phone (the entry you deleted). Therefore I kindly ask you to check the new entry if appropriate and to change the title into is-phone (without "").

Check out this guy: user 85.81.1.38 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/85.81.1.38) He writes no summaries whatsoever, and has the bad custom of removing details in birthplaces (i.e. born in Barcelona, Catalonia, he "steps in" and removes Catalonia, among other stuff in articles just because).

Another thing i noticed is that he keeps inserting mambo-jambo in his edits (other than removing other people's work), which consists in saying: "after some great performances, this or that player attracted interest from this or that team", just to make his "contributions" look brighter. A friendly question

SATORI, my friend,

I will probably make you now the most important question ever by me asked, because in your answer lies the majority of my fears and doubts about disruptive edit(or)s being (or not) assuaged.

Given that most people have one computer (some two or three), how is it possible to constantly change (or not constantly, but the mere fact of doing it just once) the IP address? I am not very proficient in technologies and its proceedings, so i would like to now (in a nutshell) how is it done.

You can find all the info at Wikipedia:E-mailing users, but here's the gist of it:
You have to log in under a username, then go to "my preferences" and enter a valid email address. There's a confirmation process in which you'll receive a test email with a hyperlink to validate your email address.
After that, visit "my preferences" again and, near the bottom, check the box for "Enable e-mail from other users". Click the "Save" box at the very bottom, and you will be able to send me emails and vice versa. Thanks. — Satori Son 16:01, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

With respect, you are completely missing the point. Engaging in an edit war in the midst of an ongoing discussion is still edit warring. The two are not preclusive.

If you do not edit war in the future on Inflation or any other article, you will have no problems whatsoever from me. A quick note on this user and his MANY MANY MANY IP:

One week after you reverted the protection on Antonio Longás, found this IP that most certainly belongs to them (according to the contribution pattern http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/189.30.116.31)

I know it's them, due to patterns of the following: Only writes in INFOBOXES (only!), almost exclusively edits in players somehow connected with FC Barcelona and writes ZERO edit summaries. However, these last two IP have not showed any disruptions whatsoever, redundancies in INFOBOXES and stuff that still may exist were prior to my reports so it's working fine so far. Funny how it took them so long to understand they were being annoying...
However, am almost 100% sure (and i dont know the guy) PARARUBBAS aka whatever will not "see the light", oh well, 1 is better than 2 in this case...

Yeah, those edits popped up on my watchlist, and you're absolutely right: While they are almost definitely a new IP sock of Bruno P. Dori (block log), there has been absolutely no disruptive editing whatsoever. I haven't issued any new blocks for evasion, but if they return to their old ways I certainly will. A "shiny" example, Antonio Longás, one day after you lifted the protection. Block of No, obviously not

I'm a little puzzled by your block of this user. He was a single purpose sockpuppet created by a high profile user used to make a point in a discussion, but that's no reason to block him. Do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point means just that – do not disrupt wikipedia to make a point, which he didn't. He made a valid point in a very effective way. He didn't disrupt wikipedia at all. There's no point unblocking him now, but I am a little worried by your intepretation of "do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point", and I ask you not to do anything like this again.--Pattont/c 23:16, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, I disagree with your somewhat lackadaisical interpretation of WP:SOCK and WP:POINT, and I really don't know what the editor being "high profile" has to do with anything at all. Thanks for that. And not to be wishy-washy, but I can now see both sides of the issue. The "puppetmaster" went a tad too far trying to make a point, but blocking the account could be seen as a harsh overreaction by some. In short, not a bad block, but not a needed one either. Help please!!

No SATORI, this time it's no disruptive editors and/or vandals,

I am feeling very frustrated (other than with the WP/ANI silence, but that's another matter) with the at the way another admin (and this is where your help may come in very handy, as you are one as well) has been treating me...

The admin/user/person in question is KRAKATOA KATIE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:KrakatoaKatie). Once upon a time, mere weeks after i started editing under this account, i stumbled upon some "contributions" of who else? PARARUBBAS. As you know very well, because you have already tipped me about this on occasion, i am not very civil to downright vandals and sometimes go way "over the hill".

Minutes after i "had my say" with the vandal i received a message in which i was called hysterical among other things (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:NothingButAGoodNothing&diff=prev&oldid=232433547). Ever since i tried to reach KATIE, i have been treated in very poor fashion, with no answers whatsoever and removing of mine (friendly and polite, also acknowledging i do lose my temper with "bad people") as well. However, i see the titles she proceeded to give when removing such messages, and they were not very pleasant, no siree.

What is my request? Since you have been dealing with me for so long (the most, alongside BANRAY) and now my ways and intentions, could you please try and reach and leave a word, as i have sworn (to myself and Mrs.Katie) i would NEVER bother (since it's how she feels) her again.

If not, i understand, if yes, i would (again) greatly appreciate it, specially since you have such a hectic schedule and "no time to waste" at WIKIPEDIA.

I really wished you had waited to talk to me before you posted your last comment to her. It's possible your first comment was removed accidentally with the blatant trolling of the other post, or maybe she mistakenly believed you were being a smart ass (like "Ha, Ha. I was right after all."). I don't know, but your reply back to her was a probably a little harsh.
I know your heart is in the right place because I've observed your edits over a long period of time. But even I have had to ask you to tone down the edit summaries, which is exactly what she was asking you to do originally. And to many here, your frequent use of all caps and superfluous punctuation can be off-putting. It's a cultural thing, really. Wikipedia has tried to develop a culture of exceedingly calm and civil discourse. You're obviously a passionate guy who feels strongly about your articles of interest. Passion is good, but passionate dialogue is sometimes not.

  • On a related note: in a previous tip, you urged me to be civil even with vandals, and i promise to stop insulting from now on (even the ones who SURELY deserve it, because Wikipedia is not mine, it's a common space, so if something says "NO PERSONAL ATTACKS", i'll have to abide by it, however it may be hard to do). However, now solely concentrating on PARARUBBAS/PEP/PASD's case, there is a thing i would like to address to you: I guess i will have to stop using sarcasm in my edit summaries (because when i say "PLEASE" i am not really being polite at all). As i have shared with you, i think is English is appalling and is idea of a good article's display is 100% the same, but we cannot be sure as whether he reads his talkpage messages and/or edit summaries.

For instance, take a look at this: In Raul Meireles, i improved the piece with 3 new REFERENCES, leaving the following note (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Raul_Meireles&diff=prev&oldid=262433188, no insults but a good spoonful of sarcasm, because there's no use in saying "please don't remove this" to a person like this, mean it, and hope they will not remove it). It can be a coincidence, but also not, so i also promise NOW to stop using sarcasm (and/or insults), sticking to the customary "Removed X edits by Y person, etc, etc,", you can have my honest word.

  • Just thought of this now: please stay with me on this "train of thought", always bearing in mind the Raul Meireles example provided above.

Our friend PEP proceeded in the following fashion: he clicked "edit this page" and the customary page appears, and he "scrolled down". As obligatory, REFERENCES (with respective link, title and so on), appear before REFLIST template and, usually, the VANDAL (that is what he is) removed both REFS and TEMPLATE. However, since i feel he is getting more and more acquainted to WIKI-processes, he now found out all he has to do is remove the template and REFS will not display that way.

On a related note, although we will never know, i have got the "gut feeling" this guy reads his messages (even though his grasp of English is as i earlier said appalling (cannot even write a simple word like "where" right ("WERE") i, as you very well now, have sent him, including the one today, several messages in PORTUGUESE, and promise to you i have never insulted him there, although i did several times in edit summaries, which is another thing we will never know he reads or not), which leads me to the following conclusion: This guy is a dangerous (wiki speaking of course) VANDAL of the highest caliber (BRUNO P.DORI at least does not glue sentences and remove stuff, he is just an INFOBOX vandal; by the way, before i started this message, checked and he has already reverted LONGAS and JORQUERA's article AGAIN!, so they are not much better than PARARUBBAS, i am afraid), and i strongly feel a long-range block would be more than justified, but that is just an humble opinion (in case you are a bit confused, i mean long-range block on PARARUBBAS, not BRUNO P.DORI, due to geographic and also disruption-like reasons, the latter is in no way as appallingly disruptive as the former).

By the way, just to refresh your memory my friend (i hope your schedule is less hectic these days), can you still fill me in on WP/ANI etiquette? By the way, 2 weeks have passed and still not a single comment on my reports of a bona fide vandal like PEP/PARA/PASD (well at least no reprimands either).

I strongly oppose the removal of items from article without discussing it first. If I revert the item removed without discussing it, then I will be blocked for "edit warring" and for being a "disruptive editor." The person who removed the item does not get blocked for "edit warring." The person removing the statement without discussing it first, is not labelled a "disruptive editor".

So, let´s discuss this matter. I think the statement: "Deflation is a contraction in the volume of money and credit relative to available goods and services." should stay in the lead since it accurately defines what deflation is.

Discussion regarding all the above matters invited.

I am more and more convinced that is the only solution in cases like this two. Am feeling more and more like sometimes i am the vandal, not these two despicable excuses for wikipedians...

You being an administrator, I strongly suggest you (re)read WP:CSD thoroughly before deleting pages. I don't want to be rude, and to be fair, deleting vandalism as nonsense is a common mistake. But I presume you were deleting it because it obviously wasn't true (or was made up) and thus it should have been deleted as G3 (which means it shouldn't have been deleted as G1 (which doesn't include vandalism)). I got your message, and appreciate the input you provided with the notice of proposed deletion. For me the gain from spending the time on writing my contribution, is by getting experienced editorial review. I believe that the case itself - Human Rights in Los Angeles California 1985-2009, is too important to give up. Obviously, as one who lives here, it was difficult for me to exercise the necessary detachment. Hence - the deletion notice.

I am very experienced in such procedures in other platforms (science peer review, literature publishing), and therefore, I would like to try to meet the goals set for me by the editors. I believe that in 3-4 days (less than the 7 days I am allowed) I will be able to come up with an entirely different tone article.

I believe that the introductory paragraph is already a step in that direction. I would be grateful if you could take a look just at that, and let me know if I am on the right path.

I honestly appreciate your willingness to work collaboratively and seek advice. You have a great attitude, and it's obvious you are very passionate about the subject. It's just that I don't think Wikipedia is the proper forum for such an essay.
As I said before, my advice is to start a personal blog where you can espouse your views and let others know what is going on. Yeah, some nutjob blog is trying to out my identity by saying I'm some guy named Brian Laurens. It has drawn a lot of attraction to my profile today and people tracing my IP. To quickly delete your user page so that most users cannot see its history, simply place the "{{db-user}}" notice at the top. An uninvolved administrator will delete it, usually fairly quickly.
If you want the entire page history deleted so that no one can see it, not even admins, you will have to file a request at WP:Requests for oversight. Finally, you will probably want to file a username change request at WP:Changing username.

Hello my long lost friend! I wanted to talk to you about the edit reversal you did to the Les Beasley article citing that the removal was done because the source had been removed due to lack of notability. Just because the article is removed does not make the source any less reliable. The CMHoF is a viable and legitimate organization with notoriety. The problem that arose out of the article was that it had just been formed and had not built up a record to justify an article. But to remove the source simply because an article didnt meet wikipedia guidelines at that time for page qualifications does not make it any less important to the world, community or industry. I'm sorry, but that is a blatant misrepresentation of my edit summary. I removed the citation first and foremost because it does not meet our guidelines for reliable sources, which must be "reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy."[3]

Hope all's fine by you, haven't "heard" from you in a while. I have a request for you man, which i think it's fairly reasonable: As you know (i see you have intervened somewhere, just don't remember where), User:Bruninho is blocked, after a pertinent investigation.

However, he feels he has been unjustly treated by you (but stresses he has no more qualms about the previous investigation cases), at least at FC Barcelona Atlètic, where you reverted his actions - i offer some translated ideas after he sent me a message: He said he updated the team, with new players, corrected a former player (OSCAR ARPÓN to the correct form ÓSCAR ARPÓN) and you reverted everything, protecting the piece against vandalism. My man, i assure you, in this case, his actions were 100% accurate, take my word, you know how much i hate vandal's guts, would not protect him and his views if both were not good.

Also, he says you have reverted, in several players, the FC Barcelona Atlètic link the correct one, which he provided, to FC Barcelona B, which is also "good" but merely a redirect. In these cases also, his actions were fine, although i guess you were taken aback by all the ongoing quarrels.

He asks of you to please stop, he is only trying to collaborate. In all fairness, in the cases he provided in message sent to me, i concur.

Hello Vasco. Glad to see you are doing well.
I’m quite surprised you have not realized this by now, but Bruno has, over the last nine months, proven himself incapable of working in a collaborative environment such as Wikipedia. Starting with the account Bruno P. Dori (talk · contribs · block log), he has edit warred and edited disruptively on dozens of articles. He has used at least three named sockpuppets and over sixty IP accounts[5] to evade blocks and edit war.
It is extremely important to note that while I did block the very first account for extremely disruptive editing (after several warnings and short blocks), I did not initiate the recent request for administrative action at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bruninho/Archive. It was started by other users who were concerned about inappropriate behavior from a second account, Bruninho (talk · contribs · block log). In fact, at the time that investigation was started, no one involved even realized it was the indef blocked Bruno P. Dori. So, he ended up getting another chance to start fresh and completely blew it.[6]
In short, Bruno is no longer welcome to edit here at the English Wikipedia under any username or anonymous IP. Period. I and other administrators will continue to revert any and all edits he makes, block any accounts he uses, and, when necessary, semi-protect articles to prevent further disruption. About the start: yes, i had already realized he was a bit of a nuisance (although not as big as you know who!) but, as a user involved in these quarrels (i think it was PeeJay) put it, and i think one admin once observed it - in the order i will now refer to - that: his edits were at times useful, and were not considered vandalism per se.

And yes, i also understand that he has had a fresh start chance and did not take advantage of that (i remember it quite well it was i, a year ago, that told you BRUNINHO was a sock of BRUNO P.DORI), having since the latest investigation started two sock accounts, with the same editing patterns. I also know he, out of language problems or overnonchalant attitute (i think the former is more accurate) did not communicate his views, thus being even more disruptive. My only input to you now was about the message this guy sent me, with very particular items, thus my questions.

All in all, i understand your reaction/decision, will convey that to him today.

Pararubbas has one account open, Edc018 (not recent nor the latest, but still "surviving"), imagine this man: he, at one point, fought us with two swords at one time (i.e. two simulatenous accounts!!). I imagine the vandal's surprise when he found out he had no need to open a new sock, because this one was still available.

He immediately started to contribute, gluing all sentences F.C. Two situations

Here's a "thought": i saw this "person", IP nº 86.146.115.20 ("contributions" here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/86.146.115.20) has been "contributing" (this consisted in inserting false teams in player pages) this last week. However, i noticed it has another edit two years ago. In case (just in that case, never mind with hopping IPs) this is a standard address could you have it blocked please?

These (insert your tirade here) have no business being here, let them find another "hobby".

Also, could you protect Diego Tristán's page? Not "real" vandalism here, but the following: an edit war is on the verge of happening between me and an anon editor with a neverending supply of IPs: i think infoboxes should be compressed, leaving further details about club names, etc, to storyline proper. He thinks differently, and reverts my edits without a word. I cannot message him other than at edit summaries (by the way, his many IPs start with 217, and in edit history (here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Diego_Trist%C3%A1n&action=history) you can also find another similar set - this one standard - that belongs to me, difference is easy to make, I WRITE SUMMARIES), so communication is impossible in his talkpage(s).

86.146.115.20 is by no means a vandal and, in fact, has never even been WARNED for his edits. It's important that we assume that new editors think that they're helping. That ties into Not biting the noobs.
Looking through your contributions, you haven't actually EDITED Diego Tristán. I'm confused as to how this user is supposed to know you don't appreciate his edits if you haven't said so.
Ah, I reread your post. I see what you're talking about.

Hello Vasco. Looks like Kingoomieiii gave you some decent advice while I was away. Sorry for not being available, but I’m not sure I could have done anything, anyway.
Two bits of advice for the future: First, always try discussing an issue with an editor first, even it is blatant vandalism. Very few admins, if any, will take action against an editor who hasn’t been engaged in conversation, or at least formally warned (see WP:WARN for some useful templates). And this means going beyond the use of edit summaries (see Help:Edit summary#Use of edit summaries in disputes).
Second, I’m not educated enough in the specifics of Association Football (as you know) to determine if the editing by this IP was blatantly disruptive in the first place. If they had been edit warring or something obvious, that’s one thing, but these edits are not prima facie inappropriate.
In the future, when the situation is not clear-cut disruptive behavior, I would instead ask for help from your associates at WP: WikiProject Football. Thanks. — Satori Son 15:30, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

  • Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
  • It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
  • Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.
  • I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.
2. If you're a law student,
(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)

Urgent help

Hi there SATORI, VASCO here,

need to discuss a subject with you, and ask for some "meddling" from you: I don't know if you are aware of this (maybe i brought it in the past slightly, when we had those Pararubbas battles), but i have an anger management problem that needs to be addressed, not at WP of course :) :) Thus, it has created some problems with some users, and i do not wish for it to occur any more.

As i think i have also told you somewhere down the line, my edit summaries have been at times not very "to-the-point" and...shall we say, fair? Problem is that, even when not dealing with vandals, i have overreacted in some cases where i definitely should have NOT.

I bring to you the latest case, because i need your help as a "communication bridge" between me and the other user. Take a look at César Peixoto and my two edit summaries (summaries here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=C%C3%A9sar_Peixoto&action=history). His answer after he returned online, as KrakatoaKatie in the past...blanking the page!

To wrap it up, the request and a promise. 1st: could you please send MNunes a message explaining my case and hopefully get things back on track? I would greatly appreciate it. 2nd: I PROMISE! This was trully an eye-opener. I will NEVER AGAIN have one word louder than the other in my edit summaries, non-vandals do not deserve any of this, they work to the best of their abilities, as do i. On another note: i have noticed that you have been, almost "on sight", reverting User:Bruninho (and his other socks)'s edits, even when posted with an anonymous IP. I imagine, especially since your schedule does not allow - or at least you told me that once - for great periods of editing/assisting at the site, i imagine that you have a tool to do that for you, let's say...automatically? I would really like to know how do you operate in these cases and, especially since you have dealt with a dynamic IP in the case of Bruninho, i would like to implement that with another vandal, this much more disruptive, User:Pararubbas. To my knowledge, he has not opened any new accounts, but has continued to edit anon. Your thoughts please my friend.

Destructoid article

Hello, I proposed one week ago the creation of the Destructoid article on the Video games article requests. This article was deleted in April 2007 because it was decided to "keep and clean up" in January 2007 (see first nomination), but no clean-up had taken place since then. However it is impossible to create a new article with reliable sources about the subject, as it is protected and can only be created by admins, which is the reason for my message. I have a proposal for the article in my user space. As time has passed since 2007, I could find a lot of independent sources, from Joystiq, 1UP.com, Sarcastic Gamer, Ars Technica, the Webby Awards, Giant Bomb, Wired News, Kotaku, Eurogamer, Hudson Soft, or Rock, Paper, Shotgun. I was mulling over the Alan Roger Currie AfD to see why someone with over 2 million ghits is apparently not WP:N. I know, WP:GHITS applies but I can imagine the Currie advocates are frustrated.

Something that got my interest was your comment about the Examiner.com. Did you know about this site off the top of your head, happened to see what it is, or are there lists of web sites that are generally considered reliable or unreliable sources? There are nearly 1700 links from WP to the site. Ideally we'd have something like Wikipedia:Spam blacklist that would remind editors "You are using an unreliable site" with a link to an AfD like page where it's reliability was discussed. --Marc Kupper|talk 03:37, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
