Editing

Hi, I've just been looking at some of your recent edits and felt that the following tips would help you edit.

1. References should not be included in headings
2. We have some templates that make life easier, such as Template:CensusAU which links to specific sections in Census in Australia. For example, {{CensusAU|2016}} is the same as manually typing [[Census in Australia#2016|2016 census]]. Another is Template:Census 2016 AUS which makes for easy and consistent referencing to ABS Quickstats, rather than writing out the reference in full and can quickly and easily be updated at the next census.
3. Punctuation should be added immediately after text, without spacing: e.g. "Australia," not "Australia ,"
4. Demographic information should be added in prose format, rather than abbreviated as was the case at Nelsons Plains, New South Wales.
5. When updating population figures, they should be consistently updated throughout the article.

Thomas Adams

Please note that disambiguation pages like Thomas Adams are meant to help readers find a specific existing article quickly and easily. For that reason, they have guidelines that are different from articles. From the Wikipedia:Disambiguation dos and don'ts you should:

• Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
• Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
• Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry that mentions the title being disambiguated
• Only add a "red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
• Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible

I can see that you are a new editor, but you need to know that Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously. You must not copy and paste text from sources you find on the web into articles as you did in the article Berry Park, New South Wales. Hello. I was coming to advise you of the same thing. Reference go after the punctuation. I see that my note here is the fourth time you have been advised on how to do that. Continuing to put them before the punctuation creates unnecessary work for other editors. Have you read the messages above, Sarah? They contain many tips about problems that other editors have spotted. Please read them and take them on board. I'll mention some things that strike me:

1. Punctuation goes before references, not after. This is an example where you have added three references, all of them with the full stop after the reference. It needs to go before. Indeed, you make this mistake every time you add a reference.

2. Please use only complete, correct sentences. This, for instance, here, is a poor and unclear sentence: "In the 1850's owned land with the Dangar family owned 600,000 acres of land in Walcha". Can you see what the problems are? I'm not sure what it means, but I think it should be something like "In the 1850s Rundle owned 600,000 acres of land in Walcha together with the Dangar family". Perhaps you write too hurriedly, and need to slow down. Your addition here contains several incomplete, or otherwise ungrammatical sentences. I'll quote them below:

• "Born in Castlehill in September 1804."
• "He helped established in village of Camberwell in the 1860's." I don't understand what it means to "help establish in village".
• "Died on April 28th 1884 and he buried at St Clements church ground."

3. I want to draw your attention particularly to the post headed "Copyright infringement" above on this page.[1] Respecting copyright is extremely important here, so don't, ever, copy text straight from the internet or out of a book. Get your facts from the sources, but not the exact wording.

Finally, from now on, please don't ignore the people who post here. Answer them and try to learn from them. Do you think you can take care of the problems I have described? Please reply below. If something I've said isn't clear, please ask. Bishonen | tålk 20:22, 15 May 2021 (UTC).

I have read though the style guide and the previous comment with a better understanding of the mistakes I’m continuing to make. I have been too eager to share the information. John Eales

An anonymous editor has correctly picked up that you made a right mess at John Eales by confusing father and son, and adding a bunch of material about the father to the article about the son. There is a forty year age difference between the (correct) date of birth in the article, and the one of the person you "corrected" it to? Didn't it twig that maybe you needed to do a bit more fact-checking before changing the article? The amended version doesn't even make logical sense, because it has him being educated in Sydney and yet arriving in Australia in his 20s after that occurred, and being a first-generation immigrant who both inherited and acquired the same estate. You must use Articles for creation from now on

Hi again, Sarah. I see that you created an article recently, Newcomen Street Corporation Baths. I'm afraid it was (and actually still is, despite editing by others) of poor quality, especially as concerns the broken English syntax. There are some weak sources also, such as [2]. I have to tell you that you must not create articles of this quality directly in article space (that is to say, you must not create articles directly, but only drafts). Instead, please use Articles for creation. Please go there and see how it works. This is a serious instruction: you must no longer create articles directly. It is only if you abide by this that you will remain unblocked. Good luck, and please ask if there's anything you don't understand about using Articles for creation. I am volunteer if University of Newcastle GLAMx lab. The supervisor of the project requested the manager. She wanted the project that the University was involved in up on Wikipedia.
