Otheruses on Horseshoe Bend, Arizona?

Just curious, why put an otheruses link on Horseshoe Bend, Arizona? It's not like somebody typing "Horseshoe Bend, Arizona" is looking for a different page. -- Moondigger 20:29, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense. I'm thinking that its placement at the top of the article is appropriate when used for disambiguation, and inappropriate when used in the way you intend. A good start would be the "nutshell" box on WP:NC. We title articles by what something is called, rather than what it is. For instance, there is an article at M6 motorway as opposed to M6 motorway (Coventry to Carlisle via Preston and Lancaster). Though, in all fairness, most of the NVC articles should be merged into a smaller series, the "X in the NVC" series, but with shorter titles. Chris talk back 18:04, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think I got most of them (unless the redlinks on {{NVC}} are mispointed), but I would probably look to merge the individual items up to list-like articles, e.g. one article for the whole M-series listing the individiual communities and their contents. There are a few things you can do to bring this article to GA status. They are:

Add inline citations to bring the article to meet WP:WIAGA criteria 2b.
Add a taxobox.
Follow the Manual of Style heading guideline.
If possible add a few pictures to enrich the article.

By inline citations we need footnotes to help verify and prove what is and isn't original research. This is because as according to WP:CITE "The Harvard referencing system places a partial citation". Everything otherwise looks good. Feel free to renominate the article at WP:GAN when it is ready.

CVL - Ramsar status?

I was looking at a planning application today v near the lake & the environmental survey attached to the proposals (under associated documents - NB only accesible with IE), in amongst stuff about badgers, bats & dormice, includes the paragraph "There is a single site within 1km of the site. Chew Valley Lake is of international importance, designated as a Ramsar site (under the Ramsar convention) and Special Protection Area (SPA) for migratory birds." — Rod ^talk 22:18, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SP-KP,

Looks to me like you only removed one POV-ish word. :-) But I really wasn't so worried about POV, actually. It's about a geographical location; not too many debates etc. A little bit of a positive spin is somewhat forgivable, as long as it doesn't descend it abject boosterism. :-) So don't worry about this.

There are still 9 [citation needed] tags on the article. GA is not FA, as everyone likes to say, but 9 is just too many. Please knock some of those out. I won't say how many.. but..certainly at least 5. All would be better.

I just noticed something else, but this will take only about 3 minutes to fix: the lead should mention some of the other topics covered in the article. Here I'm talking about adding perhaps three sentences max to the lead, perhaps only two sentences. Look at the article, find a couple of the more important sections that are completly unmentioned in the lead, and mention them. I'm not even talking about mentioning every section here. Just something about 1 or 2 more. A tiny bit more complete.

Tuley tube

Hello SP-KP. I recently made a couple of small edits to this page (I think you started the article), and I've since been pondering the use of 'Tuley tube' as the title. I feel that the more commonly used name for these objects is 'Tree shelter', certainly in forestry and arb circles. Therefore I propose changing the name of the article. I've taken your page, User:SP-KP/Wikipedia Topics, and used it as the basis for an index. I want to thank you for the work that went into that (since it made what I did much easier). So if you're interested, please take a look at User:John Broughton/Editor's Index to Wikipedia. Comments are welcome (and, of course, feel free to edit). There are a lot of rough edges (minor, I think): I've not checked all the links; I'd like a lot more brief descriptions on the lines, and I know I've missed pages, though I really believe that this is at least 60% of the way to having all the important subjects and links to pages within the index.

I totally agree – if it was "an illness" then it could be useful for sure. However, "terminal illness" is too general and hard to define to be useful IMO. What connects someone in a PVS, an AIDS activist and a child dying for want of a new liver? The first got noticed due to controversy, the second promoted the cause themselves and the third was covered by a TV program prone to soppy heartache stories. By restricting the list to those who became famous for something they shortly then died of, you end up with a study of fleeting fame (but without the study, since it is just a bare list). In terms of salvage: well, there is a List of HIV-positive people with sections on activists, criminal infection and scientifically notable cases. Persistent vegetative state has a list of notable cases that (with one exception) are all notable solely for being in a PVS. Colin°^Talk 20:08, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
