Why can't I find articles for the regular terms such as action and others (I forgot what else I was looking for)? A lot of things just bring you to a disambiguation page and you can;t find the regular simple term being used --Rashba (talk) 23:07, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How do I request an article?

I was wondering why there is no article for reward and punishment or at least a disambiguation page who do I turn to?--Rashba (talk) 00:34, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Krias Shema She'Al Hamita

Hi User:Rashba, thanks for doing this article. I’ve been working on two prayer articles which are often included in in Shema al Hamita (Baruch Adonai Le’Olam and Ana b’Koach, and had nothing to link to, so this article helps. I might add to your article when i’m done with some others. People don’t seem to have much opinions on these articles (compared to, say, the current events articles) so it’s,unlikely that you’ll get any pushback. But if someone looked, they might say you rely too much on primary resources. I think you’re quoting the correct stuff, but I will add some secondary resources, just to ensure this argument can’t be raised. Leave a message on my talk page if you have any problems.

I wondered if you had thoughts on the following: Should the name be "She’Al HaMitah" or "Al HaMitah". I’ve seen both "she’al" and "al". What do the halachic texts say?

Happy editing. Ayenaee (talk) 12:59, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I mainly translated from the Hebrew page and the sources are from there too. I think it is a bit of a fundamental prayer that definitely needed an entry. I did skip part of the Hebrew that discussed the Hamapil section. Maybe it can get its own page (though generally it is grouped together they are two different prayers with different obligations. Maybe you are right about Al and not She'al (I see now that that is the way it is in the Hebrew one and that is the way it is in different Siddurim. I wrote She'al because that is what I am used to though it may not be the proper term.
It does seem like some of the Judaism articles are lacking greatly and no one looks after them religiously. I would say about your other article name not to use G-d's name explicitly out of respect (maybe it can be hyphenated (at least the Hebrew)). Additionally, most people that recite this prayer (I personally don't) I imagine would refer to it in a way without mentioning G-d's name.
I can help out in a lot of Jewish related areas (I can read Halacha and rabbinic literature quite fluently. Also can help with some Kabala - Chassidic stuff). Rashba (talk) 13:28, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that many religious Judaism articles are lacking. I think there was a big push when Wikipedia started to get stuff on, but on the whole since then (2004) it’s been neglected. I know many religious people have left because of what they perceive as bias.
As far as writing HaShem’s name, I have been conflicted about that. The way Wikipedia works anyone can come along and delete or desecrate it. Your idea about hyphenating the Hebrew version makes sense and I hadn’t thought about that. I think it’s probably better just to replace it everywhere (Hebrew and Translit.) with HaShem and English with G-d? The Wikipedia argument is that Wikipedia doesn’t censor, but I’m ok dealing with that if it arises.
I’m fluent in the Tanach and siddurim, and can read halacha with difficulty (more because of complexity than language). I’m not well versed in Kabbala except at a very pshat level. The most exposure I’ve gotten to Kabbala is in the Ana BeKoach piyyut article I’ve just finished (I still have to put in some references and copy edit). But maybe you could review it and give me comments. I used Chabad.org and other similar articles. When I tried going to the Zohar, I started feeling uncomfortable (like this was knowledge I wasn’t ready for, so I stopped). I made sure the 4-letter name wasn’t in the article. But I couldn’t see how to leave out the 42-letter name because that seems to be what the piyyut is about. You’ll see my discomfort in that I put a long disclaimer upfront not to even dream trying to pronounce it, and the two places it appears (disjointed not as one name) I put similar caveats, which isn’t usual for wiki-articles. But I’m interested in your opinion on whether the inclusion as I’ve done it is acceptable or not.
I’m currently going through all the prayers in the Jewish Prayers navigation box (where you put your article) and trying to improve the ones that are really bad. Some are ok, but the two I chose so far were a couple of confused sentences. Some suggestions for stuff to work on:
- pick bad articles and improve them, adding Halacha to many of them would be low hanging fruit
- see where the gaps are and write new articles as you did with Al HaMita
- look at the more top level articles and see what you can improve. The pages for services Shacharit, Mincha etc could do with improvement.
- Add other Nusach to articles. There are complaints that most prayer type articles focus on Nusach Ashkenaz only. My Rabbi is Chabad but the congregation is Askenaz so we use Nusach Askenaz (with the rebbe thrown in). But from the rabbi I have some insight into Nusach Chabad/Ari. I also have some Nusach Sefard/Edot HaMisrach knowledge from school. Although we were majority Ashkenaz, we had a sizable portion of Sephardi students as well. So we seemed to learn some Nusach Sefard without know it. My parents pronounce "tuf" as an "s" (Russia/Latvia/Lithuania0 whereas I was taught to pronounce it as "t". It’s very confusing when I see the word "Krias" (as in your title) and need a couple seconds to convert it to "Kriat" :). The point is that being Nusach challenged myself I try to bring other Nusach into the articles. So thats sometching else you can do with your Nusach.
There’s lots more. Enough for a lifetime. Just stay away from current war articles. If you’re new to Wikipedia they’ll eat you up and get you kicked out very quickly. Think of it as the Kabbala of wiki - one needs growth before tackling it :). Ayenaee (talk) 19:49, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contributions to Immersing with a reptile in his hand. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and References are primary and it need more references. It also has terrible opening context. I don't understand what its about and I should. . I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. scope_creepTalk 14:47, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
