Peer review by Blake - The first sentence of the introduction should state what the Nature study movement is first before noting its impact on the way science was taught in North American schools, which you explain in the next paragraph of your introduction. As well, you should probably expand a little bit more upon what impact the Nature Study movement had on the way science was taught at that time. In the body of your argument, you said that the movement hit at a time when teachers were already thinking of expanding and changing the curriculum...why is that, and what was the nature study movement's contribution to this? As well, I was not able to completely grasp the importance and goals of the American Nature Study Society. I liked the part of your article on Education for Children, as it was very informative. In the final section on women, what impact did it have on women that such male critics believed it to be "romantic" and "sentimental" if women became so influential in the movement? How did such criticisms affect the role of women in the movement?

I really liked how you divided up your topics, especially how you used a quote for one and included women as a sub-topc as well (this is an aspect that i feel is very overlooked.) however, in your introduction should be more direct and to the point, and your first sentence should say exactly what the nature movement was rather than its significance. The quotes you use are very good and informative, and are eye-catching to the reader.

I liked this article and I think that you gave excellent insight into the topic in the introduction. If possible I would shorten the introduction slightly just to make it as focused and concise as possible but I do not think that this is required. I especially liked the section about women in nature study because it was a relatively obscure area of nature study and it was a great addition. One area though that I did not feel was touched on enough was the history of the topic of nature study. You have a lengthy section on it but I still feel that some deeper insight and addtitional information is needed on the history of nature study. I also think that it would be helpful to the article to give a so what statement that gives a sense of the impact that Nature Study has on modern science. Overall a very good article.

I thought the article was well-written and was packed with relevant information. The introduction had a lot of detail, perhaps too much at some points. Maybe some of the detail from the introduction would be better for other parts of the article. One suggestion would be to make the final sentence of the introduction be the first sentence of the introduction. I felt this sentence gave a good, concise overview of what Nature Study is. The article was niceley seperated into sections, making it easy to read. One thing that I would have liked would be a section dedicated to the impacts or results of the Nature Study on future science.
