SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.

Article tags at the reference desk

Please don't mark comments with article tags if the page is not an article. First of all, these tags place pages into categories that are only supposed to include articles. Secondly, the person asking the question had just stated that the comment was speculation, so there was no need to make a "formal" indication of such. You may not have intended it, but it seemed kind of rude to me. Leebo T/C 18:35, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Ah, it was meant to be humourous. I didn't think about the tags adding the section to a category, although now that you mention it that seems rather obvious. My apologies. And while you are here, I hope you don't mind me nicking the T/C bit of your signature. It is just so elegant, but I can find something else if you would rather I not use it. Plasticup T/C 18:42, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
I don't mind you using it at all. Glad the misunderstanding is cleared up. Leebo T/C 18:44, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Flossie

Hi, I've redirected the Flossie article for now. It could still do a Daniel (2006) and not affect Hawaii. I think we're getting ahead of ourselves. The Atlantic guideline is only create an article when TS watches (or up) are issued, I don't see why it shouldn't be the same here. Chacor 14:06, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair enough. We can just revert the article if it does affect Hawaii. For now I will continue building the storm history in 2007 Pacific hurricane season as the transition from Tropical Storm to Hurricane is described only in the briefest detail. Plasticup T/C 19:24, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
Hey, I appreciate your help in updating the storm history of Flossie. But if I could be a little anal about it here, I don't think its storm movement is really that notable (unless influenced by the environment or its movement would bring it into different environmental conditions). More focus on the environmental conditions and the storm's structure etc. (v.s. its winds or movement, which are only tangentially important to storm history, in my opinion anyway) might be better. Your thoughts on this? Cheers, Chacor 13:36, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
I am fairly new to this project. If you would like to change or add to my contributions I won't be offended at all. I don't really know a fantastic amount about meteorology so precisely which features are worth mentioning is a little unclear to me. I only mentioned the westward tracking because the storm is approaching Hawaii, but I suppose that much will be obvious when we get the storm track up. Plasticup T/C 13:43, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
For someone who's new to meteorology you've done quite a good job of picking out some key points for the storm history! Heh. All right then. I was thinking there wasn't a real need to mention transfer of responsibility (I thought that that was fairly redundant with what came right before it, which was the mention of it crossing into the CPac). You're right, sort of. I'll rephrase the blurb on its westward movement to something about Hawaii. Cheers, Chacor 13:47, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

For GFDL purposes please remember to note in your edit summary that you're splitting the information from the seasonal article. Cheers! Chacor 15:02, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Yep, will do. Should we cut down the Storm History in the seasonal summary too? It is getting a little ungainly already and this storm probably has several days left. Plasticup T/C 15:04, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes, since there's now an individual article we can cut down the history at the main seasonal article. Chacor 15:07, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Again I'd like to thank you for the job you're doing with Flossie. Just one little thing which I noticed when you added the preparations: please wikify all dates. "August 13" without wikilinks will appear "August 13". But with wikilinks the date format will default to what the user specifies in their preferences, and so will appear as "13 August" for those who choose that format, etc. Thanks, Chacor 12:54, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I want to thank you for all your help on Hurricane Flossie (2007). It is my first substantial project and I have found your advice to be most helpful. There are still a lot of WPTC conventions for me to learn but so far this has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Plasticup T/C 16:23, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

You're most welcome. The article's developing well. I'd like to point you to a change I made to Dean's storm history, by the way, I removed one bit that seemed rather trivial (that Knabb forecasted a hurricane). There isn't a real need to specifically say which forecaster it was, and the hurricane forecast itself can be added back later if Dean turns out to be a dud. If it does become a hurricane, I don't think the forecast of being a hurricane would then be as notable. Cheers, and keep up the good work, Chacor 16:27, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
I noticed, and that is exactly the sort of thing to which I am referring. All of these little changes, updates, and pieces of advice have been very helpful. Plasticup T/C 16:42, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, some advice... when writing the storm history, try to avoid making it sound like a narrative (like you did in the Flossie history with "and indeed the eye disappeared"), there are more "encyclopedic"/'formal' (so to speak) ways of phrasing it. I've fixed that bit now. Cheers, Chacor 13:10, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your edits

I appreciate your contributions to Anthony Watts. The article looks much better. RonCram 03:43, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Bukta

I don't think the entry Bukta should be deleted as it is in no way 'blatant' advertising on my behalf. I was simply filling in all the links on the Derby County F.C. page. If you look at the 'Kit' section of that page Bukta is the only one without a page of it's own. Given the company's long standing tradition of producing kits for clubs in the English footbal league I thought I deserved a mention. If you could reinstate this page I would very grateful. Thanks. Animaly2k2

In order to be considered notable a topic must have received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject. WP:Notability gives some guidelines on this matter. As the article was, notability had not been established. Feel free to recreate the article if you feel that you can establish notability by linking to several secondary sources. Plasticup T/C 20:19, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Stub categories

Dear sir. You have recently added some stubs for Romanian geographic information. Stub categories should not create groups exceding several hundreds of articles. In the case of the Romanian river project this number is largely exceded both countrywise and countywise. Therefore, you are welcome to post stub categories but please do it using smaller administrative units, such as groups of communes, instead of entire countries, Thank you in advace.Afil 23:20, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

IRC discussions on hurricanes

In case you're interested, there is an IRC channel for the tropical cyclone Wikiproject, in case you wished to talk to some of the other members. Chacor, Titoxd, Nilfanion, Coredesat, myself, and a few others users frequent there to talk about tropical cyclones and TC articles. If you are interested, here's a link; put your nickname in (we all use our Wiki-names to keep track of us), and under the channel tab put #wiki-hurricanes . See you around. Hurricanehink (talk) 01:29, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Very nice. I usually use mIRC, but the CGI might be good for work. What server do you use? The default on that page seems to be irc.techwarelabs.com, but #wiki-hurricanes isn't even registered there. Plasticup T/C 01:40, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
We're on freenode.net. Chacor 01:41, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Oh, you can use mIRC to come on here, then. I personally use Chatzilla. The server I use is irc.freenode.net Hurricanehink (talk) 01:43, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Dean

[1] Actually, the TS warning for Barbados was issued at the 5 am advisory. The original advisory was corrected to include Barbados. Chacor 12:26, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

But the Barbados warning isn't mentioned in the first citation of Advisory 12. It doesn't appear in the NHC documentation until Advisory 12a, so the first citation alone is insufficient. Plasticup T/C 12:35, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
They might not have updated their archives yet, but...

Update

Hello...just wanted to let you know that I just updated the Dean page with Advisory 24A information and refreshed the track picture as well. The information, which I linked in my edited summary, are directly from the NWS/NHC. Take Care...NeutralHomer T:C 06:12, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Abbie Bueller

I am locating online references for offline award recognition for the American actress Abbie Bueller. Also, I have a note on the discussion page regarding my intended contributions on the subject. I also intend to contribute other work that ties my contributions to existing references in Wikipedia. Thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Abbiebueller (talkcontribs) 21:05:17, August 19, 2007 (UTC).

Wikipedia is not the WMO. Rather than reverting this, perhaps we could build consensus on the talk page first. Popkultur 03:38, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Well let's check for consensus now before going against Template_talk:Infobox_hurricane_current and every other Atlantic hurricane article on the site. I would argue that as the precedent is on my side, so is the existing consensus and the burden ought to be on you to prove that consensus has changed. Plasticup T/C 03:44, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Fixing the spelling in a link?

Hi Plasticup. You changed Aquires to Acquires in the Bell Sports Inc. article. The link that you edited pointed to a news release that included the spelling error in the title. I guess that's okay, and easier than putting [sic] in the reference. Anyway, just reminding you that every piddling little edit you do will be examined in unreasonable detail. Ronstew 06:37, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Really? I changed spelling errors in a couple citations but I thought that I had checked them all first. I must have missed that one, thanks for catching it. Plasticup T/C 06:40, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: Effects of Dean in LA

Go with your instinct! Preparations looks good at quick glance (I take it they're sorted by climatology); normally, the preps are split by several areas (watches/warnings, government preps, citizen preps, stuff like that), but with an article like that you chose a good way to organize that. For St. Lucia (and other areas), for every damage figure, you should also add USD in parenthesis- EC$1 million should be - EC$1 million ($300,000 USD). Also, what was the total damage for Dominica? It might not be a bad idea making a regional impact section of damage and deaths, though it doesn't need to be as elaborate as that of the main article (something like this). Keep it up. Sources

Hi. The sources that I'm using are the articles of the 2007 BWF World Championships and their sub-articles. All these articles have their own sources added, but I thought it was no usefull adding an external link of the championship for each player article, when it is already explained in the champoinship article of wikipedia. Anyway, I'm trying to add the BWF Profile of each player now. Thank you for your attention. :-) MontanNito 03:24, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

AWB

Earlier you reported that you were having display problems with WP:AWB in version 4.0.0.0. Can you do us a favor and upgrade to the newest version and let us know if you are still having the problem? If you could let us know at WP:AWB/DEV whether or not you have the problem, that would be great. Thanks again. —METS501 (talk) 14:45, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

I am around, but I don't have as much time right now. I may come back to the project in a few months, but for now I won't be making more than a few trivial edits. It was great working with you though. Plasticup T/C 19:23, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I figured. Well, I hope you have some more time when the next hurricane season comes around, because your work on Hurricane Dean was great. --♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:26, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
