A barnstar for you!

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
Thanks for the kind message when life hit a new low KylieTastic (talk) 17:57, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
@KylieTastic: Thank you *so* much! I hope you're feeling better and also that the PC has now been fully repaired, so that you can keep up the excellent work you do here at the Wiki!

Kindness and understanding

Shining!
Thank-you for your kindness and understanding (which, I see from your Talk page, is not a new thing for you)! It is such a contrast to other editors who appear nationalistic and don't assume good faith. But as for you, I dearly want to work with you now on anything at all.
Prhartcom (talk) 22:12, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
@Prhartcom: Thank you very much for taking the time to extend gratitude. Apparently, there's over 20 million of us, editing the wiki! That we would all be understanding and patient friends, helping each other to achieve this monument none of us could ever hope to build alone. I'll be glad to 'bump' into you at some future stage, working on improving another article.
Until then, keep well and joyful, and please continue to do your best for the wiki.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk) 22:47, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
You too, and if you ever need a copy edit or a review, let me know. Just throwing it out there: I am looking for a reviewer. Cheers. Prhartcom (talk) 22:52, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

New user boxes

Thank you - I have corrected it. It looks like it's back to school for me then! Hogweard (talk) 07:41, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

@Hogweard: You're most welcome. Well, don't worry about it; some of these cases can be a difficulty for us native francophones also. Take care; Patrick.ツ Pdebee.(talk) 10:58, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
@Hogweard: Dear Hogweard,
Please forgive me also for mentioning that the suffix '-ci' in French also demands a hyphen between it and the word it qualifies; so, the form would be 'celui-ci' and, in your two cases: 'cet utilisateur-ci' and 'cette utilisatrice-ci'. Please see the more detailed explanation here: http://french.about.com/od/vocabulary/a/suffix-ci.htm
I apologise for missing this detail the first time around; I only spotted it now, as I was looking at that page again.
With kind regards;

Why is a 'Div' column longer than it needs to be?

Hello helpful Wikipedians;
If you look at my user page, you can see that I have listed the articles to which I have contributed and, because there are many, I have displayed them in two columns, using the 'Div col' facility. This has worked perfectly for all my lists, except for this sub-section: Music (recordings).
As you can see, the vertical line created by the 'rules=yes' option does not terminate with the last entry in each of the two columns, as it does for all my other lists; rather, for this sub-section only (!), the vertical line continues for another two inches or so, and I can't figure out why. At first, I thought that some rogue blank lines were causing this result, but there aren't any left in that sub-section, or in any of the neighbouring sections or sub-sections.
It's obviously a trivial issue in the overall scheme of our encyclopaedia , but I am puzzled by this strange outcome and would appreciate some assistance, please.
Thank you very much in advance for your help, just in case anyone has come across this symptom before and knows what causes it.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk) 21:40, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Looks perfectly normal to me. I think the issue might be that the left column is one line longer than the right, making it look like the line is too long. In the "Music" subsection the opposite happens (the right col is longer than the left). Primefac (talk) 22:17, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
@Primefac: Thank you very much for your prompt reply.
However, I find it perplexing, and I wonder whether we are seeing the same thing displayed on our respective screens.
When I look at the subject sub-section on my screen, the vertical line continues beyond the last visible entries as if to allow enough space for an additional 5 or 6 invisible entries on both sides; this does not appear normal to me, hence my call for help. All the other sub-sections on my user page show the vertical line terminating alongside the last visible entry of text in the longest column (by 1, as you say, on either the left or right); that is the norm I'd expect.
Please may I ask you this: when you look at the subject sub-section, do you see the vertical line continuing way beyond the last entries ('Vên' on the left and 'Transatlantic Sessions' on the right), as I described in bold above? Or do you see the vertical line terminating exactly alongside 'Vên' (the longest, by 1 entry, of the two columns)?
Thank you for your input so far.
With kind regards;
Patrick.ツ Pdebee.(talk) 01:41, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
The latter; I see all of the vertical lines throughout the page ending exactly where I would expect them to end. Might be a browser thing which is causing it (I'm on Firefox Beta). If you want to re-open the help tag and get more advice, feel free. Primefac (talk) 10:06, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
@Primefac: Thank you very much for your feedback: it's really helpful to know that the data is displayed correctly at your end and that it might be a browser issue (it wouldn't be the first time); I'll follow up on that before re-opening the help tag.
Please also forgive this late acknowledgement: I have just returned home after being away for three days; hence the delay in returning thanks.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk) 17:26, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
@Primefac: Just to let you know, out of courtesy, that the columns terminated as expected after I removed the last entry that appeared on the left column: Vên. I still don't know why it caused the glitch but it might have something to do with the special character in the middle of the name ('ê'), combined with my browser (since we established that you did not observe the glitch with Firefox at your end. In any case, I am not going to spend any more time on this, since it's gone away. Thank you once again for your help.
With kind rgeards

A tag has been placed on Changing Trains requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Deletion discussion about Live from Patrick Street

Hello, Pdebee,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Live from Patrick Street should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Live from Patrick Street .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, Karlhard (talk) 20:12, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks for the kind words (and the proofreading)! It's definitely a great article. Maybe we can raise its status to Good Article some day. :) Neodop (talk) 23:40, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

  • Hey, I understand the confusion. His first name is Juan de Marcos^ (the second part of his name, "de Marcos", is after his father, famous singer Marcos González Mauriz), González is his paternal surname and Cárdenas his maternal surname. His daughters are Laura Lidia González Abreu and Gliceria Lidia González Abreu, and his son is Juan de Marcos González Abreu. Since his name is so long he is commonly referred to by his first name alone (also, "González" alone would be ambiguous in the article). I hope this clears it up for you :) Neodop (talk) 22:21, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
^Compound names in Spanish might or might not include "de", for example: José Luis (not José de Luis), María del Carmen (not María Carmen).
@Neodop: Dear friend 'Neodop',
Thank you for taking the time to explain the function of 'de' in this case. I knew his father's first name was 'Marcos', but I mistakenly thought that 'Marcos' had become the first part of Juan's paternal surname, and that the 'de' was therefore used to clarify that his first name was not the compound 'Juan Marcos' (like a Spanish version of 'Jean-Marc' in French). In any case, I am happy to defer to your greater knowledge of these subtleties, and I thank you for your patient explanation.
Therefore, I fully agree with you about the use of his first name, 'Juan de Marcos', as a way of resolving the ambiguity that would result from applying MOS:SURNAME in this case, since we also needed a way to differentiate between 'Juan de Marcos González' and 'Rubén González'.
Thank you for your continued contributions to this article, like the recordings Rubén made with Raúl Planas.
You will notice that I have now also added the new section on 'Filmography'.

But seriously: I apologise for creating a 'false' null edit. Thanks once again for being so nice about it!

Information icon Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Andy Irvine (musician), as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 19:13, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

@EoRdE6: Dear EoRdE6,
Thank you for your message above. I have now read the guidelines on Help:Minor edit (for the first time) and fully agree with you that I have not been applying these guidelines appropriately. Therefore, I very much appreciate your reminder and will now adhere strictly to the guidelines. As you will have noticed, I strive to add ref tags to the overwhelming majority of my edits, so that these can be reviewed by other editors interested in this article. I also pride myself in making my edit summaries very clear and explicit when describing changes I apply. I dare say that these two aspects of my editing style should greatly assist other editors in satisfying themselves that my changes are beneficial and underpinned by referenced sources, especially if these fellow editors also have the same source materials at their disposal for consultation and verification. Finally, as you might have seen from the article's talk page, I tend to make myself accountable to other editors and have complied with advice and suggestions on those extremely rare occasions when I was approached. In summary, I believe I have significantly improved the subject article while also enjoying being bold in this labour of love.
In that positive spirit, I fully agree with you that I certainly need to check the 'Minor edit' less automatically than hitherto, and I am grateful to you for bringing this to my attention; thanks once again!

A minor return

I'm back. Ish. Glad to see you're still around. Yintan  16:13, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

@Yintan: Dear Yintan;
Welcome back! What wonderful news! I hope you have returned with renewed motivation, to do as little or as much as you want in support of our encyclopedia. Whatever it will be, I know it will be excellent and I am very pleased you're back!
As for me, I'm still very much enjoying helping around here, mainly with fixing typos and more generally as a WikiGnome. I had a lot of fun restoring the hyphen to hurdy-gurdy and also ran out of things to write or improve in the article that first brought me here as an editor: Andy Irvine, where you were of such great help in guiding my newbie steps! Other than a couple of new articles I am drafting (slowly!), I am basically flitting from article to article almost aimlessly, since there's always plenty for a gnome to do around here! If I were brave enough to bite the bullet, I'd learn how to upload photos about Irvine and his various bands from the internet into Commons—in accordance with the copyright rules—prior to adding them into the article. However, and after some initial reading of said copyright rules, I suspect that such an effort would most likely cause me a great deal of unbearable frustration, which wouldn't be too good for my blood pressure!
In any case, thank you very much for making contact, Yintan; welcome back, and please keep in touch.
With kind regards for now;
