New page reviewer granted

Hi Paul Carpenter. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. signed, Rosguill talk 22:43, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Replaceable fair use File:Dónall Ó Héalai.jpeg

Thanks for uploading File:Dónall Ó Héalai.jpeg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jumpytoo Talk 00:41, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

undisclosed financial stake

Hello there, please help, I'm unclear on how to resolve the issue, or even how to speak directly with you to address the concern for the page Eyeball Records I can change any of my edits as needed, however the current information posted was already written by me and it was not a complete story or representation. I don't know of anything in my most recent edits that would financially benefit me, but I'm happy to omit or edit whatever it is. What is currently listed on the page was written by me earlier this year. I thought I was helping by adding a more accurate snapshot of the history. Obviously I want to make sure I comply with the rules of wikipedia, since I use it as a information resource regularly myself. hopefully I'm communicating with you correctly by typing in this thread. thank you again. Any changes that you suggest, an unconnected editor can chose to implement them or not. You'll notice that I've tagged yourself at the top of the talk page so that your connection to the label is known. Thanks, --Paul Carpenter (talk) 16:30, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Seimrut Bey

Hello Paul Carpenter. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Seimrut Bey, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A7 can only be applied to articles about people who are real, not fictional characters. Thank you. Jackmcbarn (talk) 07:07, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jackmcbarn sure okay. I was retagging as it was originally tagged WP:A1 (not by me) but the create removed the CSD tag and just added a few more lines but still with no assertion that the topic is notable. I've since retagged as WP:A11 since I think that's a better fit. --Paul Carpenter (talk) 07:17, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dónall Ó Héalaí

Hi Paul, I believe the changes made to Dónall Ó Héalai's page are accurate - Dónall Ó Héalai spells his name in this way on his IMDB page and that is his primary source of identification as a screen actor.I would appreciate if you undid your changes. Thank you. Kerry. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2912067/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kerrydd13 (talkcontribs) 13:05, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kerrydd13 Take a look at the version of the page with your changes: there's syntax errors causing the image to not be displayed and the IPA pronunciation guide to his name has also been removed with stray characters left behind, that's why I reverted it, not because of the spelling variation. That said, in general IMDB is not considered a great source (see WP:CITINGIMDB). If you would like to get into the spelling of his name then the place for this is the the article talk page, or just change it yourself if you can do so without breaking the wikicode and have an appropriate source for that spelling. --Paul Carpenter (talk) 13:35, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pedram Hamrah page

There have been libelous comments added to this article again and again. To pre-empt that it may be better to just have it removed — Preceding unsigned comment added by Medguru (talkcontribs) 13:24, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Medguru, that's a pretty drastic course of action. Have you considered requesting that the page be protected? If you really do think that the page should be deleted then follow the deletion process, since blanking the page is only ever going to get reverted. --Paul Carpenter (talk) 13:33, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edits

Information icon Hi Paul Carpenter! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Lovesick Girls that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. My edit was not vandalism, and you adding it back is subject to discussion, so your edit should not have been marked as minor. Doggy54321 (talk) 11:40, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Doggy54321 Whoops, slip of the trackpad on that occasion. You're quite right, that wasn't a minor edit, sorry. --Paul Carpenter (talk) 11:42, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging of Stephen Irvine

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Stephen Irvine. I do not think that Stephen Irvine fits any of the speedy deletion criteria  because As per WP:CCSI#MUSICIAN being a member of a notable band is a claim of significance. . If you wish, you may try using the simple proposed deletion (PROD) process, or the full articles for deletion (AfD) process, instead, if this was an article, or another process such as MfD or XfD as appropriate. IP address users

Hi

I am not sure how to highlight 129.12.213.202 as a public IP address. You could post a question to Wikipedia:Help desk and await a reply.

Or you could try something typing like this -

== How does IP work? ==
{{helpme}}
How can the IP address 129.12.213.202 be marked as an IP address used by University of Kent?
--~~~~

On your talk page. As explained on Template:Helpme. Hope that is of some use. --Alchemist Jack (talk) 12:42, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Syzygy

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from syzygy, which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks!

Don't think it fits the criteria for deletion proposal. Also see talk page. Supersheep (talk) 23:44, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Headings

Hi, I noticed the edit summary of your edit here[2]. I do not have any objections to this particular edit, but note that in general, having a sensible target for a link is no reason to introduce headings. Consider using Template:anchor instead, which allows you to link to an arbitrary location in an article, and also prevents links from breaking accidentally when someone changes the text of a heading.—Emil J. 16:20, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I mostly summarised that edit like that because that redirect was on my mind at the time, possibly it wasn't the best summary in the world. The fact that the redirect existed shows that the topic needed it's own section and I'll stick to that. I wasn't aware of Template:anchor but I'll keep that in mind for the future. --Paul Carpenter (talk) 16:24, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Glynis McCants

Just a quick note to let you know that I removed the speedy deletion template you placed on Glynis McCants because the article did not seem to meet the speedy deletion criterion A7. The article contains a credible claim of significance (appeared on national media etc)

Please be aware that is normally inappropriate re-add a speedy deletion template when another editor (other than the creator of the article) has removed it, because speedy deletion is only for uncontroversial deletions. If you believe the article still needs to be deleted, please consider WP:PROD or WP:AFD which can be used for deletions which are not covered by the speedy deletion criteria.

I am not an administrator and I do not have any special authority in this matter. If you feel that I have made a mistake, please feel free to contact me on my talk page. Thparkth (talk) 15:56, 14 May 2024 (UTC) 14:34, 18 May 2010[reply]

Regarding the notability template added for the Marmen Quartet page - this quartet clearly meets Wikipedia's notability guideline no. 9 for musicians by having won not one, but two first prizes in major competitions - the Banff in particular is one of the most prestigious string quartet competitions in the world. The announcement is given in the references so I don'tsee why the notability is being challenged. Hyperman 42 (talk) 22:52, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

Hyperman 42 I should probably have tagged it as lacking sources, not notability. It currently only has one third-party source, which isn't great. I'll change the tag. --Paultalk❭ 15:43, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sir Ian Burnett

Re: Burnett. The shyreman.com website linked in legal documents along with email addresses and phone numbers of MPs. The documents were stamped with court seals and given reference numbers. The facts about Deutsche Ban's role in laundering bullion have been front page news. So there does not appear to be any assertion that does not check out. The source appears reliable - it does not state anything that has been debunked.

CFTC fines DB for example: https://www.cftc.gov/PressRoom/PressReleases/pr7682-18

Simon Staley Brown QC: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2329664/Simon-Brown-QC-Top-judge-reprimanded-copying-ruling-word-word-1-8m-court-case.html

CFTC fining DB seems very much to contradict what Burnett ruled. The website has been up for 4 years and no legal challenge seems to exist against it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C4:6794:D900:94E1:BCA7:5FD0:55D4 (talk) 18:28, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
