Wrong fix for unbalanced brackets

 Resolved

Hi @NicoV,

in this fix WikiCleanerBot removed the outer brackets of an image instead of fixing the inner brackets in the image caption. Please check your bot. --GünniX (talk) 07:13, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GünniX. Thanks for the notice, it will be fixed as soon as push the new version, it's a edge case. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 21:36, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing errors

Why does WikiCleanerBot invoke undefined references when it makes edits, like this one? -- 00:00, 3 April 2023 (UTC)00:00, 3 April 2023 (UTC)00:00, 3 April 2023 (UTC)00:00, 3 April 2023 (UTC)00:00, 3 April 2023 (UTC)00:00, 3 April 2023 (UTC)~~

(talk page stalker) Mikeblas, the bot made this edit. It appears that an IP editor made the edit that broke referencing. (P.S. Something went very wrong with your signature above.) – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:10, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ooop! Good catch -- looks like I grouped together more than one change in that diff. Thanks! -- Mikeblas (talk) 01:18, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Assist setting up WPCleaner in knwiki

hello @NicoV , can you please help me setup WPCleaner in knwiki ~aanzx (talk) 05:25, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ~aanzx. You have a few explanations in WP:WPCleaner/Wikis:
If you have specific questions, tell me, I will try to answer. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 09:05, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi ~aanzx. Sorry, I didn't see that knwiki already exists... What help do you need ? --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 09:08, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@NicoV , a user in knwiki asked that it not configured properly , I was not sure about it. Anyway I will check onwiki setup tomorrow and get back to you if necessary. Thanks. ~aanzx (talk) 18:09, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi ~aanzx. Apparently, the configuration in knwiki is a simple copy of enwiki, so it's not properly configured for knwiki. It needs someone that knows knwiki, because the configuration is really specific for each wiki. I see at least the following values that need to be checked:
  • general_nobot_templates : list templates on knwiki that should prevent WPCleaner to edit in bot mode and warn in manual mode
  • general_todo_templates : templates on talk page to add a list of todo tasks
  • general_todo_subpage : name of the subpage for todo tasks
  • general_suggestions_typo : list of pages containing regular expressions for spelling and typography (the page indicated doesn't exist)
  • etc...
All values need to be checked : a lot of them can be commented out, and progressively completed if needed. If Wikipedia:WPCleaner/Configuration/Template is not detailed enough for configuring a value, tell me, I will try to improve the comment. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 18:35, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to customise "automatic comment"?

 Resolved

Hello @User:NicoV, finally i did reasonable rough translation of check wiki error names of te wiki: te:వికీపీడియా:WikiProject Check Wikipedia/Translation. Right now, in recent changes and my edit summaries are polluted with english edit summaries. I want to stop it. te wiki admin was kind and allowed my edits. Whenever i make edit of check wiki, it auto adds comment: example: WPCleaner v2.05 - Fix errors for CW project (Heading with bold - Whitespace characters after heading). I believe check wp translation page is fixed. Where and How do i customise WPCleaner v2.05 - Fix errors for CW project. Thank you. రుద్రుడు (talk) 05:55, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi రుద్రుడు. You can configure some texts in WPCleaner configuration page. For Fix errors for CW project, it's here. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 07:04, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@NicoV What about WPCleaner v2.05? bn and kn wiki uses only v2.05. I am thinking to rid both WPCleaner v2.05 and v2.05. Both of them are obsolote or useless, because we have wpcleaner tag for edits. రుద్రుడు (talk) 07:57, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi రుద్రుడు. I see that your edits with WPCleaner are tagged, but I don't see the tag correctly configured on tewiki (like on enwiki). Try configuring it properly and it should remove WPCleaner at the start of the comment. The version is mandatory, it helps me diagnose problems sometimes. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 08:17, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Manual request to clean pages / trigger cleanup

hej @NicoV, is there a way to manual tag a page for cleaning by the bot? I suppose it would be very helpful to be able to tag a page to request a bot clean and / or check after creation or editing? Trijb007 (talk) 07:37, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trijb007. There's no way currently to tag a page to request cleaning by the bot, and I don't think it's necessary : if it can do something (meaning is authorized to do), it will do it at least when I run a dump analysis (twice a month). It would require some work on my end to make it happen. It's better to manually run WPCleaner on the page to be able to fix other errors than the ones the bot will do by itself. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 08:35, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCleanerBot MOS:REFPUNCT Problems

Hi,

Yes, references should come after punctuation. But when sentences contain multiple references, throughout the sentence (separated by non-empty strings), the references before the final period probably do not refer to the entire sentence. In this case the WikiCleanerBot should leave the final period after the reference and not move it.

The point of MOS:REFPUNCT is not to prevent citations from referring to just the end portion of a sentence, when appropriate. Citations should be able to refer to any sentence fragment. But WikiCleanerBot presently does prevent citations from referring to clauses at the end of sentences. (Absent manual comment insertion.)

See the bot's change and the manual cleanup which undoes the bot's change.

Regards,
kop (talk) 08:42, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi kop, the MOS do not say anywhere that references that refers only to the last part of the sentence should be put before the punctuation : they should always be put after the punctuation on enwiki. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 08:58, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Refs are placed after adjacent punctuation, not before (apart from the exceptions below) : and your example is not in the exceptions. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 08:59, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for running this! It's a great bot TlonicChronic (talk) 02:45, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mistake

Hello. I think this edit was a mistake. They are clearly two separate refs. --Slugger O'Toole (talk) 15:43, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Slugger O'Toole. This is not a mistake, the other instance is just defined 4 references before...
