Laabs

If you find time for it, please take a look at the article about Gustav Laabs. Any help is appreciated and I will of course add you to the DYK nom for the article.--BabbaQ (talk) 22:36, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

I'm a little upset that you insist on adding the primary source tag on top. The article is short, and most of the content is covered by both the primary source and the other two sources (non primary). Also, in the place where you added a better citation tag, I believe that section is covered by other sources as well. I'll take a deeper look at that. Cheers. Outedexits (talk) 01:48, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

@Outedexits: Welcome to Wikipedia. Please take a look at the guidelines on identifying reliable sources. The Underberg company's own website is clearly not a third-party source. The Drinks Enthusiast blog is a self-published source, and TheDrinkShop.com is just a retail site with a couple of user-generated reviews. Statements regarding the product stimulating digestion or breaking down alcohol are contentious and require citations from reliable sources. Nick Number (talk) 03:06, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Bellisarius

Thanks again. I responded by email. //Halibutt 15:10, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

I am glad because it was very nice of you, because you made our voice heard. Now Peter's family know that the knowledge He shared with the world, will remain accessible to all people on Earth. Thank you. --The Polish (talk) 23:58, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Thanks a lot for your help. Many of us from plwiki would have said the last goodbye to Belissarius -- if only we hadn't been separated by the ocean. Belissarius wasn't just a nick with contributions, he was a friend and an important member of our community. So for me, it was essential that a Wikipedian was present. Thanks for your time and engagement. Tar Lócesilion (queta) 00:10, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

Patball

It appears you've deleted some contributions on the history of patball. Any reason for this? Bobedda (talk) 21:47, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please provide a reliable source for your statements. Nick Number (talk) 21:50, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

Do you have any reason to doubt the validity of the statements? I assure you they are true statements. Almost all of the other information on the page is not sourced either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobedda (talkcontribs) 22:07, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

Yes. It all sounds highly dubious. You're correct that other information in the article is not sourced, and I've just removed a great deal of that material. Please cite reliable sources when adding further information. Nick Number (talk) 22:27, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

File mover

Hello Nick Number. Your account has been granted the "file mover" user right, either following a request for it or due to a clear need for for the ability to move files. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:File mover for more information on this user right and under what circumstances it is okay to move files. When you move a file please remember to update any links to the new name as well! If you do not want the file mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! A "sic" you found

A quick note to let you know that your tagging in Afro-Dominicans (Dominican Republic) led to discovering illegitimate sources in the article. It certainly needs helps. Cheers. Caballero/Historiador 17:24, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

In response to your edit summary "Not sure why put a 'Sic' on a reference title", the word "Caribbean" was misspelled, and I was marking it so that I could easily recognize it during my periodic typo searches. I don't have the ability to look at the target website on my present Internet connection, but if it doesn't meet WP:RS then I'm glad it was caught. Nick Number (talk) 18:25, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. :) Caballero/Historiador 18:39, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Carter Kane

The article Carter Kane has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Lack of independent reliable sources. Doesn't seem to have any news coverage about this character in any form.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. FiendYT 04:47, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

No objection. I only created it as a redirect. Nick Number (talk) 15:52, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Siksha O Anusandhan University

The references 4,5,6,7 are not relevant to SOAU and readers. It has nothing to do with the accreditation agency. So "The university also claims certification by the International Accreditation Organization,[4] a website which The New York Times and other sources have reported as a distributor of illegitimate degrees.[5][6][7]' and the references 4-7 need to be deleted. It is not good for wikipedia to show something irrelevant and ridiculous. Readers will get annoyed! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.88.12.235 (talk) 15:01, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

A discussion is already underway at Talk:Siksha O Anusandhan University. Please add comments about the article there. Nick Number (talk) 15:08, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

130.88.12.235 (talk) 10:48, 18 April 2016 (UTC)It is AIAO (American International Accreditation Organization). See the webpage http://www.aiao-bar.org/ . so the last sentence in the section Accreditation and Ranking should be deleted!

130.88.12.235 (talk) 15:23, 18 April 2016 (UTC)There is only one accreditation organization in USA i.e. AIAO. But this webpage https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axact is pakistan based!Indian universities do not get accreditation from Pakistani websites! So there is a typo there in the SOAU webpage and it should be written as AIAO instead. for further clarification on this please contact the University administration. E-mail: info@soauniversity.ac.in Telephone: +91-674- 2350635, 2350791, Fax: +91 - 674 - 2350642. Any ambiguous sentences and references need to be removed from wikipedia webpages to maintain quality standard.

130.88.12.235 (talk) 10:29, 19 April 2016 (UTC)Do you have any confirmation that SOAU is accredited to Pakistan based IAO as the link (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axact) in the SOAU Wikipedia page suggests? If you are not sure, then you should remove the entire ambiguous sentence and references. By the way, well established Indian Universities do not need foreign accreditation. As you know SOAU is well accredited with Indian Government agencies. Even if these references stay in the Wikipedia pages nothing will happen to the University's reputation and functioning. People of India believe in Indian accreditation agencies than foreign accreditation agencies. Therefore baseless and ambiguous sentences and references should be removed to maintain Wikipedia standard.

A tag has been placed on Telly Awards requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

"The Telly Awards" is improperly named (no "The" in actual title per official website) and belongs here. It should have a hatnote referring to the current target of this redirect instead.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Hi, You removed Request More Information from the page because there was no link on the line and it's against DDD rules, but by doing so you remove valuable information. Instead of deleting information, may you please help me find a constructive way to keep this information available? Thanks and regards — Boism 01:41, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

@Boism: Well, is this initialism mentioned prominently in any articles? As articulated in more detail at MOS:DABENTRY, the purpose of disambiguation page entries is to aid navigation to specific Wikipedia articles, rather than to list every possible definition of the term. Nick Number (talk) 19:12, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Are you aware that there *are* specific links to this section and that countless subsection links have been broken in the past because someone changed the name of the section heading?

Generally speaking, such broken links go unnoticed for ages. I'm quite confident that neither you- nor I- would be willing to waste time keeping an eye on that page watching for the point at which the heading title is changed.

Ubcule (talk) 19:46, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

@Ubcule: There are presently two incoming links to that section. An anchor tag is superfluous for a few reasons. For one, STV is a disambiguation page and thus should have very few incoming links. For another, Television channels and stations is the top section on the page. Even without a section link, it's the first thing someone will see when following a link directly to STV.
The anchor tag would only become useful in a scenario where someone chose to rename the section and move it farther down the page. There's no particular reason to believe that both of these things will happen. Even if they did, the harm caused would not be significant - someone would just need to scroll down a little farther to find the appropriate entries.
One could make a case for adding such an anchor tag to every section in every article, but this is neither feasible nor necessary. Nick Number (talk) 00:14, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
I generally wouldn't add an anchor to every section, only ones where I knew there were already links *and* that the section title stood a high chance of being changed.
The addition was perhaps a little longwinded, but I wanted to retain the link name as being the same as that of the section to avoid confusing people.
That said, for the reasons you give, it's probably not as significant nor as important if this one gets broken than it might be for some other cases, so I'm not about to argue the point further for this case.
All the best, Ubcule (talk) 09:40, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

Help

Hi.would you please remove the templates of this article?Thanks a lot.RAHA68 (talk) 01:34, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

I think the templates are merited as the article is written now. I don't read Farsi and I don't feel like I know enough about the subject to clean it up. 18:15, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Help - George Kenneth Lucey Jr.

Hi.would you please remove the templates of [1] ? The article was originated in 2010 without my knowledge, and I stumbled across it by accident. As a Wiki novice I added to it, unknowingly making it a borderline between biography and autobiography. An editor informed me of the risk if I were to continue, so I made no further additions. A portion was removed in 2016 at the recommendation of an Editor. It has now been in place 6 years, and there have been hundreds of views - possibly by researchers of patents and publications - without viewer corrections other than format. The Tag inviting corrections may have served it's purpose, and your review for removal would be appreciated. Luceyg (talk) 14:26, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

@Luceyg: Please do not edit other people's Talk page comments as you did here. To start a new section, click the New Section link on the toolbar at the top.
I will look at the article when time permits. Nick Number (talk) 17:16, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

Use of Cite Web at Glossary of association football terms

Hi. I just changed the reference format you added at Glossary of association football terms. The article talk page makes clear why Cite web is a bad idea on a page such as this and WP:CITEVAR also suggests that adding a template when they are not being used for cites on the page is a bad idea as well. I'm sure you just added the format you usually use, but it's worth a thought and a check in my experience - many people aren't aware of the issues with Cite web and simply use it out of habit.

Just so as you know the rationale for my changes when it pops up on your watchlist... Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:43, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

@Blue Square Thing: It's not reasonable to expect every editor to read the entire talk page for an article before editing it. That one is particularly long as well. Your recent edit summaries sound increasingly exasperated about this. I have the following suggestions:
  1. If the length of the list is causing performance issues, split it into separate lists, à la Glossary of education terms which is divided into seven parts. That would allow editors to use the templates they're used to and not have to adjust their behavior for what is strictly a technical problem and not one of style.
  2. If you're unable to achieve consensus for splitting, at least add an edit notice about the citation requirements. That would somewhat increase the chances of someone seeing them.
  3. In either case it would be a good idea to archive off older discussions on the talk page. That makes it easier for people to find and comment on current discussions. Nick Number (talk) 14:33, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

Cemetery

Thanks. Apparently I've been spelling cemetery incorrectly my entire life. *chuckle* --tronvillain (talk) 21:23, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

No worries. It is a very common misspelling. One guy even wrote a book about it, Accommodating Brocolli in the Cemetary (though I don't recommend it personally; it's a pretty dry read). Nick Number (talk) 21:27, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

You can request the move of the page as WP:MALPLACED dab page over at technical move requests; it has nothing to do with WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. These come up regularly.
