A tag has been placed on Cheryl Cran requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. A tag has been placed on Cheryl Cran, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

  • Hi, thanks for message. The article was actually tagged as an article for deletion discussion and as an article for speedy deletion by two other editors, I checked their reasons and deleted it because
  • it did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. (organizations and companies) (music) It is now Wikipedia policy that biographical articles about living people must have independent verifiable references, or they will be deleted. There were no proper references, just links to sites associated with her.
  • It was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Examples of unsourced claims presented as fact include: acclaimed author... leadership expert... escalated through the ranks... lured away... her team exceeded their 5 -year sales target within the first 10 months... to build their skills... promoted to a leadership position at the age of 23... She had nine people reporting to her all older than her... quickly known for her skilled ability to handle herself well under pressure!... developed a reputation... highly service focused, a natural leader... often approached by ‘head hunter... Knowing that she had much to share with others... have taken her to 5 continents and ten countries... hundreds of radio interviews... regular guest...
  • Bolding her company is spammy too, as is a completely unsourced "Awards and Honours"

It's just glorification of your employer

A tag has been placed on Cheryl Cran, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

Cran article

Hi! As far as the stuff on the article went, it didn't have anything to show that it really went against the previous deletion rationales. The big issues are as follows:

  1. The issue of it being vaguely promotional was still an issue, although not the most major one as far as I was concerned. This didn't contain a huge amount of buzzwords that would make it the most promotional page I'd ever read, but it did read sort of like a press release or a resume for Ms Cran. You've just got to be so terribly careful when it comes to writing articles because it's very, very easy for things to become promotional sounding without ever meaning to. It's part of why I am so leery about writing bio articles.
  1. The most important part is that the sources are not considered to be anything that would be usable to show notability. All of the sources in the article itself were WP:PRIMARY. By that I mean that the sources were from Cran herself or someone or something that is directly related to her or representing her. For example, anything on a merchant website would be considered a primary source since they're selling her books. I will say that we try to never use any merchant sources such as Amazon because not only is it so easily changed by the person or company selling their products, but also because it links to a sale page- something that is one of our firm WP:NOT things on here. There was also an issue with some of the sources such as the Canadian Speakers Hall of Fame. The problem is that the only people that really reported on this is the CSHoF itself. Most nominations into halls of fame or awards aren't really considered to be all that notable as far as Wikipedia goes. It doesn't mean that I could walk in and get into this Hall of Fame, but it does mean that it's not something that would be so notable that we'd keep on that basis alone. I'd be willing to say that it could potentially count towards notability, although I will warn you that a lot of people would probably argue against it because it's not really considered overwhelmingly major as far as Wikipedia goes. Don't take this badly- less than 5% of any award/certificate/what-have-you will give notability, and that's even considering stuff such as the Heismann Trophy or the Nobel Prize.
  1. Just publishing somewhere doesn't guarantee notability, whether it is a full length book or an article. I admire people who can write, but just publishing isn't enough. You have to show that the work has received a lot of in-depth coverage in reliable sources. That's sort of the big issue with some of the other sources. Stuff such as Realizing Leadership aren't really considered to be that reliable of a source as far as Wikipedia goes. This site is considered to be pretty strict when it comes to sources and RL has a lot against it, considering that the profile on the page looks to be mostly taken from a press release and the magazine hasn't been out long enough to really show that it's that solid of a source. This might change as time goes on and the magazine asserts itself a little more, but right now it isn't really what we'd consider a WP:RS. Now the CMS Wire would be usable somewhat, if not for the fact that it isn't really about Cran, but about change and leadership in general. By most standards it would be considered a WP:TRIVIAL source since she's more briefly mentioned than really focused on. If it makes you feel any better, trivial sources are what I come across most of the time and I've had multiple people I've wanted to write on, only to have to give up because they only had trivial sources.
I've tried looking for sources, but the ones I can find are things that wouldn't be seen as usable on Wikipedia, such as a spot on Coast to Coast AM talking about the supernatural. I hate to say it, but there's no way that she'd pass notability guidelines at this point in time even if it was just a list of her books and articles. There just isn't enough out there. What I can suggest is that it looks like someone has started a very nice article on her at Speakerpedia and it might be a good start. You could also look around for some of the various wikias (not affiliated with this site) that focus on public speaking and leadership. There's a chance that Ms Cran might get more coverage in the future, but at this point in time she just isn't notable enough for her own entry. If you want, you could always try working with Wikipedia:WikiProject Business to help with other business related articles. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 13:06, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
