Howard Bentham
Howard Bentham was born in Bedford in 1965 and is a graduate of Birmingham University.
Broadcasting Career
Bentham’s first professional broadcasting role was on Wolverhampton's Classic Gold WABC where he presented weekend overnights from 1997. Shortly after he moved to Stratford upon Avon’s The Bear 102 covering most shows on the schedule. In January 2001, Bentham took over The Bear 102's weekday Breakfast Show. His daughter was born during his first week on the show.
BBC Hereford & Worcester
In April 2005, Bentham became the Breakfast presenter on BBC Hereford & Worcester taking over from Mike George. Bentham remains the longest serving Breakfast presenter in the station’s history. During his time as presenter there the station won three Sony Radio Academy Gold Awards and his Breakfast Show picked up a Frank Gillard BBC Local Radio Silver Award. He was also a commentator for BBC Hereford & Worcester’s ball-by-ball cricket coverage of Worcestershire CCC. Bentham has also presented shows on other BBC Local Radio stations including BBC Radio Bristol, BBC Somerset, BBC Radio Stoke, BBC Radio Shropshire and BBC Radio Oxford. In November 2014 Bentham left BBC Hereford & Worcester and now presents the Mid-Morning Show on BBC Radio Oxford.
BBC Radio Five Live and Five Live Sports Extra
Bentham was the main freelance presenter on BBC Radio Five Live Sports Extra from 2003 – 2009 hosting coverage of Champions League and Premiership Football, Rugby League and Rugby Union’s major domestic finals as well as People’s Saturday at Wimbledon and Test Match Cricket. He was also a football reporter on Five Live for a brief period in 2004.
Other work
Bentham is a prominent Stadium Announcer and fronted the London 2012 Olympic Hockey Tournament and London 2012 Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball. He is also the stadium voice for England Hockey, the Euro Hockey League, the Badminton World Federation, Badminton England and Badminton Scotland as well as the Worcester Warriors RFC. Bentham also works as a freelance MC and Host.
Personal life
Bentham is married with a daughter and two step-sons and lives in The Cotswolds. Bentham played National League Hockey for both Bournville and Edgbaston Hockey Clubs making 129 National League appearances in total and also played in the Birmingham and District Cricket League for Halesowen Cricket Club.
