Wikipedia and copyright

Control copyright icon Hello MrCboY1997! Your additions to 57th Academy Awards have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. (CC) Tbhotch 17:31, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm SNUGGUMS. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 23:24, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Category:Fictional amputees, you may be blocked from editing. Please stop screwing around. Drmies (talk) 01:01, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you remove or blank page content or templates from Wikipedia without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary, as you did at Face Off (Breaking Bad). Categories

I'm not sure if you're understanding how categories work, since you've now re-added Category:Fictional gunfighters to Mike Ehrmantraut. This is a redundant category as the article is already in Category:Fictional marksmen and snipers, which is a a subcategory of Category:Fictional gunfighters. The same goes with Category:Fictional characters from Philadelphia as the article already includes Category:Fictional Philadelphia Police Department officers, which is a subcategory of Category:Fictional characters from Philadelphia.

To give a better example, this why if you look at the categories for Albuquerque, New Mexico, it's in Category:Cities in New Mexico, but it's not (directly) in Category:Cities in the United States, because Category:Cities in New Mexico is already a subcategory of that. There's no need to say it's a city in New Mexico and also say that's a city in the United States. Or, for another example, how the Pontiac Aztec is not directly in the Category:Cars of the United States, because it's in Category:Pontiac vehicles, which is a subcategory of that, already. Putting it in both is redundant.Jauerbackdude?/dude. 14:26, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read this? If so, are you not understanding this or are just willfully ignoring it? Jauerbackdude?/dude. 15:28, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did read it, didn't think it would be a problem to add some BB and Godfather characters to the category. Also, why is Nacho Varga in the category and not Lalo or Gus or even Walter? MrCboY1997 (talk) 18:06, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I missed Nacho, but the reason that they don't belong in it is because they are all in Category:Fictional gangsters, either directly or through another subcategory like Category:Fictional crime bosses. Category:Fictional gangsters is a subcategory of Category:Fictional career criminals, so that's where the redundancy lies. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 18:20, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nacho was already listed under Career Criminals before today. That does make sense. But, why is Tony Soprano listed under all three of those categories? Sorry if it sounds like i'm making a big deal out of this. MrCboY1997 (talk) 19:46, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
After reading all of my messages to you, why do you think Tony Soprano is currently in all three of those categories? Jauerbackdude?/dude. 20:16, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Because he is. Just like all the other characters we talked about. MrCboY1997 (talk) 20:21, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So, you think he belongs in all three categories? Jauerbackdude?/dude. 20:36, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
IDK. MrCboY1997 (talk) 20:36, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, he doesn't belong in all three. That's the whole point of this whole discussion. I've removed two them now. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 23:56, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to The Menu (2022 film), did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at The Menu (2022 film). Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 14:54, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

At least capitalize "A Movie Star" and "Sommelier". MrCboY1997 (talk) 14:55, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

April 2023

Information icon Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Abominable (2019 film). Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. If you've found a source confirming that a specific person voiced this film, please cite it. IMDb suggests it's another person with the same name. Belbury (talk) 16:32, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

June 2023

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to violate Wikipedia's no original research policy by adding your personal analysis or synthesis into articles, as you did at Saul Goodman, you may be blocked from editing. Your assertion that Saul Goodman is a crime boss was not mentioned anywhere in the article and is not supported by any of the sources in the article. Accordingly, it is inappropriate to include the article in Category:Fictional crime bosses. See Wikipedia:Categorization and Wikipedia:Defining for more information. — SamX [talk · contribs] 03:38, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you should just stop adding categories altogether. It's obvious from previous discussions and your continuing misuse of them that you don't understand how they work. If you continue being disruptive, you're more than likely going to get blocked. 12:24, 6 June 2023 (UTC) Jauerbackdude?/dude. 12:24, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just stop with the categories. You're just being disruptive. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 16:53, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
okay, he is a capo though, I'm not trying to be distruptive. MrCboY1997 (talk) 17:35, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Kim Wexler. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.2.O.Boxing 13:29, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

im not trying to edit war. MrCboY1997 (talk) 19:24, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hypocorisms

Please read the guidance at WP:HYPOCORISM. It explains that "if a person has a common English-language hypocorism (diminutive or abbreviation) used in lieu of a given name, it is not presented between quotation marks or parentheses within or after their name." So these sorts of "short forms" aren't included in a fully expressed name. In this case [1], "Mike" is just a short form for "Michael". Thanks. signed, Willondon (talk) 19:47, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, the same goes for Fring. The first sentence of the article begins with, Gustavo "Gus" Fring. Maybe i'm just confused. MrCboY1997 (talk) 20:04, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
They way I phrase stuff can be kinda confusing. I apologize that I made you confused here. MrCboY1997 (talk) 20:06, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No need to apologize as it's not your fault. Soon after I learned to speak, I became confused about things, and it's pretty much been that way ever since. I fixed the Gustavo "Gus" Fring article, too. Being crowd-sourced, Wikipedia has a number of inconsistencies in how policies and guidelines are implemented. And you wouldn't have to dig too far to find inconsistencies or conflicts among the guidelines themselves. As you learn more, and become more confident in what the community position is on things, you can feel confident about fixing things like "Gus" yourself. Cheers. signed, Willondon (talk) 20:19, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, half a good day! MrCboY1997 (talk) 22:48, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Cakelot1. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Ballin' (Mustard and Roddy Ricch song), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 07:40, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I just wanted to see if that paragraph would be okay with admin. It's not really that important to put on the page. I know it's not mis-info, but I probably should've put in some reliable sources. MrCboY1997 (talk) 12:54, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
