To lead or not to lead

M: I'm happy to be lead coordinator unless you want to do it for a while. I mainly wanted to make it clear that I do not feel ownership of the position, despite having sat in the chair for many terms, and that if someone else has the desire, I am happy to step aside. I am open to your thoughts. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:21, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I only offered to lead because I inferred that you wanted to take a break, so it's all yours; I'm happy to remain a coordinator. Thanks for asking and all the best, Miniapolis 17:06, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – July 2021

News and updates for administrators from the past month (June 2021).

Guideline and policy news

  • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

Thank you for participating in my RFA

Here's hoping I don't misuse the tools. I'll confess yesterday I drove the bus right up to the edge of the crater, clicked on "edit this page" on the mainpage, and sure enough, if I'd been a troublemaker could have deleted the page and run off. But I'm just the boring fellow who will step back from the abyss and spit. Thanks so much for your support. Please call on me. BusterD (talk) 21:03, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed that you added a copyvio tag to the article Parwan Detention Facility and noticed that much of it was copy pasted from https://web.archive.org/web/20150324191653/https://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/11/world/asia/parwan-prison-at-bagram-transferred-to-afghans-at-least-formally.html. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-19544118 https://web.archive.org/web/20190403165300/https://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/06/world/asia/us-will-hold-part-of-afghan-prison-after-handover.html and possibly other sources Thepharoah17 (talk) 17:13, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Someone else tagged the section as a possible copyvio, not me; I listed the tag as a reason for declining a copyedit on the article talk page. Thanks for the sources; I'll check them and do what I can to clean up any copyvio found. All the best, Miniapolis 17:22, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see that those sources are Earwig's top three results; however, the text in question seems to be cited with other RS (such as other BBC stories). Since I'm not knowledgeable enough about copyvio to confidently remove the tag, I'm pinging TheTechnician27 (who placed it in January 2020). Miniapolis 19:02, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Miniapolis: Thanks for the ping. I actually have very little recollection of this, so I'm going to have to sit down when I have some free time and remember what I meant and to see if the claim of plagiarized material is still relevant in the current revision.
