2010 Cafés do Brasil Indy 300 GA Review question

Hello. I see that you deleted the GA review for 2010 Cafés do Brasil Indy 300 under G7 last month. I was going to review this article today, but noticed this deletion notice. I was wondering why this was the case. Thanks! --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 18:16, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

Hello, MrLinkinPark333. I deleted that discussion page at the request of the original reviewer, User:HawkAussie, who gave as a reason that he had fallen ill so was unable to continue with the review. In fact he hadn’t really started the review process. The GA nomination is still live and I’m glad to see you are willing to undertake the review. -- MelanieN (talk) 18:51, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
Ah okay. I thought the review had been closed for some reason and the nomination was still active, even though it was closed. Thanks for the explanaiton! --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:00, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

4 words

Hi! Maybe I am wrong, and you probably know things I don't, so I am just going to post a recommendation: I'd recommend removing the first 4 four words from your comment on that RfA per this. I completely understand what you are saying and why you are saying it, but you probably hadn't seen that diff in the page history. Poveglia (talk) 16:14, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Generations articles: Australian IPs

Hi Melanie, is it time for a couple range blocks on this editor? They are repeatedly deleting talk page discussions. They are using a few different ranges I think.[1] Kolya Butternut (talk) 14:09, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Kolya. You are correct that all these IPs, cited by User:Someone963852 at the talk page, are undoubtedly the same person; they geolocate to the same place. However, I don’t see any possibility of rangeblocks there - both because the ranges are too different and because the level of disruption does not warrant it. Granted, it is annoying when a floating IP deletes talk page discussions or repeatedly re-adds material to the article. But if it is happening at a low level, normal page watching is expected to take care of it. Recently it has been at a higher level, so the article page is protected. We don't usually protect talk pages, so the talk page trolling may simply need to be reverted.
On the positive side, you now have consensus at the talk page to remove the material. So now when you do it you can just say something like “we don’t include lists of people, see talk page” and be fully justified. In fact you would even be justified in removing it multiple times in a 24 hour period, since for them to re-add it against consensus is vandalism. (Of course, if it was being re-added that quickly we would simply protect the page.) -- MelanieN (talk) 15:41, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Re: African Americans - Administrator assistance requested for Expedited Review of Semi-Protected Edit Request

Ciao MelanieN - Just a quick note to thank you for your outstanding contributions to the "Did You Know Column" and the article David Bennett (opera director) - fascinating reading--- Bravo! If you have some extra time, perhaps you could assist with my Semi-Protected Edit Request for African Americans since there is such a long backlog on the Edit Request Queue (see here on Talk:African Americans). The request includes a link for Henry Lewis (musician) who served as the first African American symphonic conductor of a leading orchestra in the USA after serving under Zubin Mehta as the Los Angeles Philharmonic. After leaving his native California, he attained international recognition in Europe as a musical director of the U.S. Army's only symphonic orchestra -- the Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra which concertized throughout Europe during the Cold War in an effort to encourage peaceful and harmonious relations between nations through cultural diplomacy. In addition, he is credited with overcoming racial boundaries to serve as the first African American conductor of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York City. Henry Lewis (musician) is well referenced on the Edit Request Page and was recently approved for listing on the "Did You Know Column". Perhaps if you have extra time, you could expedite a review of the Semi-Protected Edit Request. Thanks again in advance for your thoughtful assistance and best wishes for your continued editorial success on Wikipedia--Enjoy the articles --Respectfully 104.207.219.150 (talk) 18:53, 6 September 2019 (UTC)PS

Hello! Thanks for the note and the kind words. I’ll take a look and respond there. -- MelanieN (talk) 20:07, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
Ciao MelanieN - Many thanks for your prompt reply and kind suggestions -- No problem --I shall try to include a reference for Henry Lewis (musician)
in the article African-American music as per your suggestion. Thanks again for your thoughtful assistance! Enjoy the music! 104.207.219.150 (talk) 21:33, 6 September 2019 (UTC)PS

DYK for Samuel Charache

On 11 September 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Samuel Charache, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that hematologist Samuel Charache discovered the first effective treatment for sickle cell disease? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Samuel Charache. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Samuel Charache), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Hello, अवनीश सिंह चौहान . Thank you for the note. I see that you are Abnish (Hindi अवनीश सिंह चौहान ). The article about you, Abnish Singh Chauhan, was deleted in 2015 after a community discussion, which you can see here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abnish Singh Chauhan, and was then deleted a second time a week later. I took a look at the deleted version and it did not meet our requirements for an article, described at WP:GNG and WP:NAUTHOR. That page cannot be restored as it is/was.
If there is more or new information about yourself, from INDEPENDENT RELIABLE SOURCES (not just more things you have written or minor awards you have won), it might be possible to have someone rewrite the article. You yourself should not write it, per WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. I will ask for a Hindi speaker to take a look at this and see is there are enough new sources to consider a new article about you. @Tito Dutta and Vanamonde93:, any comments on this? -- MelanieN (talk) 16:05, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for thinking of me, thought it's possible you are overestimating my language skills. To be honest, I don't think I have the time for this at the moment, because if there are sources, they aren't obvious. To me this seems a lot like other newbies who cannot understand that they aren't notable, but I'm glad someone has the patience to try to mentor them. Vanamonde (Talk) 16:22, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the prompt reply, Vanamonde. -- MelanieN (talk) 16:27, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for all the information, Dr. Chauhan. I know you have written and published a lot. As Tito said, that is all detailed at the Hindi Wikipedia. Unfortunately this is not the kind of information we need for the English Wikipedia, which has its own rules. The list of what you have written is not enough. We need to have independent people writing ABOUT you - reviews of your works in major publications, academic studies about your writing, MAJOR prizes, this kind of thing. This is spelled out at WP:NAUTHOR and WP:ACADEMIC. Thanks. -- MelanieN (talk) 15:43, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, Sir, for the response. Could you please give me your email address so that I can send you the detailed information required for the page - 'Abnish Singh Chauhan' अवनीश सिंह चौहान (talk) 07:23, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

No. Whatever information you have should be posted on Wikipedia, not in a private mail. What we need: We don't need additional lists of your publications or of talks you have given. The only information that matters is writing ABOUT you (such as reviews) by independent reliable sources, or MAJOR prizes. Those are the things needed to meet the requirements of WP:NAUTHOR or WP:NACADEMIC. If those things do not exist, then I'm sorry, but we will not have an article about you at the English Wikipedia. I suggest you focus on the article at the Hindi Wikipedia, where their rules are not as strict. -- MelanieN (talk) 16:27, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

Please stop with the lists of your publications and prizes. That is getting us nowhere. Let me get some basic information: what is your current academic position? I gather you are on the faculty at Teerthanker Mahaveer University. One source I saw said associate professor and head of the English department. Another source said assistant professor in the department of humanities. Also, I saw that you have earned a BSS Sahitya Sadhak Samman 2009 from ABSKM, Moradabad. What other degrees do you have? P.S. I found this, which may be outdated (2010) but shows me your degrees and position at the time. And this says you were FORMERLY teaching at Teerthanker Mahaveer University. What is your situation now? -- MelanieN (talk) 15:59, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Dear Sir

  • You people asked for the details, therefore, it is provided here.
  • 'That is getting us nowhere': I knew you would finally say this. Thanks.
  • 'what is your current academic position?': My current position is Professor. I know you don't require this information. You have something else in your mind.
  • 'I gather you are on the faculty at TMU': Please check the date also. So that you can know that a faculty can be promoted with the passage of time.
  • 'One source I saw said associate professor and head of the English department.' Can a faculty not be promoted from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor?
  • 'I saw that you have earned a BSS Sahitya Sadhak Samman 2009 from ABSKM, Moradabad.' yes, I have earned more than 2 dozen awards for my writings. Would you like to know all the awards received so far?
  • 'What other degrees do you have?' I don't have the degree of dishonesty and crookedness. You people created so many useless pages on Wikipedia (on authors). Why do you not delete them?
  • 'And this says you were FORMERLY teaching at TMU': Yes, I was working there at that time. Then, I resigned. Joined another university. Again resigned.Joined another university. Again resigned. Joined another university. Again resigned. And, thus the journey goes on. Do you have any problem?
  • Once you asked me- "Thanks, Tito. I think that settles it." Tito checked 'अवनीश सिंह चौहान' on google, whereas we are discussing on the deletion of the page- 'Abnish Singh Chauhan.' Why did she not read the matter seriously? Why did you not cross-check the matter seriously?

I was asking for the basic information we would need for any biographical article. We always need a person's educational and career history. You have chosen not to tell me this information. Here's why I asked: There are two possible ways you could qualify for an article here - WP:ACADEMIC and WP:AUTHOR. From our discussion, and the information you have given me, you don't qualify per WP:AUTHOR. That's because you do not have enough independent coverage - other people writing about you and your work - or SIGNIFICANT prizes (not the ones you have listed, we would need MAJOR literary awards). So I was trying to find out if you might qualify per WP:ACADEMIC. It sounds like you wouldn't. So, let's not waste each other's time. Based on the information you have given me, and on my searching, I am not going to write an article about you. You are free to ask anyone else, but I think they will tell you the same thing. About Tito Dutta: I asked for Tito's opinion because he can search in both English and Hindi, while I can only search in English. That gave him a much broader search. He also concluded you would probably not meet the standards of the English Wikipedia, at least not at this point in your career; maybe later. I have nothing more to say. -- MelanieN (talk) 15:58, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Dear Sir

I am highly grateful to you for this communication. I am again inspired (by your interesting discussion and negation) to do some new and innovative work in future. I really don't want to see my biography on Wikipedia at this stage (though I know my biography can be included in Wiki due to this rule- Specific criteria notes 4.1 (4. The person's academic work has made a significant impact in the area of higher education, affecting a substantial number of academic institutions. Criterion 4 may be satisfied, for example, if the person has authored several books that are widely used as textbooks (or as a basis for a course) at multiple institutions of higher education.). This is to humbly inform you that my books were included in the curricula of various universities of India at under graduate and post graduate levels 12 to 15 years ago, when I was 25 to 28 years of age, and these books are still in the syllabi.). But, I also don't like useless pages (on authors) on Wikipedia. Wikipedia must focus on this grave issue. Moreover, at present I am working as Professor & Dean in a university and after 5 years I would again remind you the same thing- without any expectation from you or anyone else. This is lowkey a literary genious. You could legitimately make an argument in his favor but I can also see how the lack of english coverage may be an issue. --NikkeKatski [Elite] (talk) 19:16, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

Admins and political views

I apologize for questioning your political views in the past. However, I do think there should be a policy that requires admins and other power users, who have exhibited some kind of tendentious political perspective through their editing patterns or the patterns of how users are picked on, to recuse themselves. See for example the comments on my talk page from an admin about "Elizabeth Warren." So, as someone who I unfairly judged in the past and I apologize. I don't think other admins on this site are following the rule book that you are following. PunxtawneyPickle (talk) 18:01, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

Hello, Punxtawney. I’m baffled. Are you talking about the semi-sarcastic comment from Muboshgu a month ago - about which you complained on his talk page? Or the block from El C four months ago? Or what? I don’t see either of them editing or commenting at the Elizabeth Warren article. I’m glad you think my attitude is OK, but I don’t see what brought it up now. -- MelanieN (talk) 18:18, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
I was talking about Muboshgu. I didn't realize his comment was sarcastic. PunxtawneyPickle (talk) 18:50, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

Louis XVII of France

It's already been requested, but could you please protect Louis XVII of France? RIDICULOUS amounts of IP vandalism after recent expiration of semi-protection for that very reason. ThanToBe (talk) 20:41, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

Please see my reply to an identical request. Favonian (talk) 20:49, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
Hello, ThanToBe. I see it's protected now, presumably because of your request at WP:RFP. In addition to that request, you also made individual requests on the talk pages of five different administrators. That is not cool. Don't make the identical request from a bunch of people; it's just annoying. Ask one person, or better yet, post the request at RFP and wait for somebody to deal with it. -- MelanieN (talk) 21:27, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

Karaiskakis and Peace and Friendship Stadiums

Hello! for the karaiskakis stadium see the talk page section location https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Karaiskakis_Stadium. I revert the vrahomarinaner troll and chalk19 which isn't troll generally but is ultralocalist about this issue. I don't care about football rivalries, wikipedia isn't a football fan's blog, this vandalism's are made from small portion of ultra fanatics. The most of olympiakos fans aren't localists. For example in Karaiskakis stadium article, olympiakos fans like snethel and other, revert vrahomarinaner [13]. Piraeus is part of Athens urban area at least 80 years. In all statistical yearbooks of Greece after WW2 and some before, of National statistical authority of Greece, Piraeus is in Athens urban Area, and for all others authorities of course, and European authorities like Eurostat, European commission, Eurobarometer etc. All Major events in Karaiskakis and Peace and Friendship stadiums have host city Athens [1][2][3][4][5] [6] [7][8][9] etc, and sorry for my bad english--Jjik43 (talk) 14:24, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Sources

Thank you, Jjik43, but my user talk page is the wrong place for this information. You should put it on the talk pages of the stadiums and other places where you are disagreeing or edit warring. The only way to win an edit war is to have the best evidence on the article's talk page, and to gain consensus there that your version is correct. -- MelanieN (talk) 17:25, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Karaiskakis_Stadium other user had put them but vrahomarinaner troll and user chalk19 ignore it.--Jjik43 (talk) 17:32, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Are you talking about this? The only actual evidence or discussion I see there is from 11 years ago. Plus a comment (but no evidence or discussion) 2 months ago. Tell you what: why don't you start a new discussion there, explaining why your position is correct? -- MelanieN (talk) 17:38, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Chalk19 wrote <<Sorry, but you missed the point. It's not a content dispute, it's trolling by an SPA, and I have no time to lose talking to a troll, trying to persuade them for something similar like that Colosseun is in Rome.>> https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism&diff=prev&oldid=916180998 and <<Piraeus nothing to do with Athens.>> I can't believe what i saw. Please don't let the ultralocalists and fanatics to make wikipedia trollopedia--Jjik43 (talk) 17:45, 17 September 2019 (UTC) Tell you what: why don't you start a new discussion there, explaining why your position is correct? because only the vrahonarinaner remove athens from piraeus location until now. Chalk19 make edits in this articles the last days--Jjik43 (talk) 17:45, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Well, if neither of you explain yourselves on the talk page of the article, there is no way for an outsider to tell what the argument is about or who is right. If you edit war without explaining your position, you are just asking for a block. You explained your position here; you could just copy-paste it to the article talk pages. -- MelanieN (talk) 17:47, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

I was not disagree with the page who wrote piraeus, athens before me, the vrahomarinaner blocker troll and the user chalk19 fanatically disagree. I open a new section and i will write i agree with the location? vrahomarinaner blocker troll and the user chalk19 they didn't open a new section in the talk page and ignores the current--Jjik43 (talk) 17:59, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

And for the Neo Phaliron Velodrome the same, i din't start the edit war. The version before vrahomarinaner start the edit war https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Neo_Phaliron_Velodrome&oldid=867335756 and my last edit https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Neo_Phaliron_Velodrome&oldid=915967929 in which i tried to compromise it.--Jjik43 (talk) 18:07, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Jjik43, stop forum shopping. This ALL goes on the article talk page, with civility and respect. Go do that, like you've been told now on at least 4 pages, and stop bugging people with your complaints about other editors you've never even tried to work with, and policies you've never even tried to follow. My patience is not endless. You're becoming a serious time sink for administrators on this project. How many, now, have given you this advice? Pointed you to WP:DR, told you to stop attacking the other editors and discuss things with them? At least 6 admins. Time for you to actually listen. Puppy has spoken. Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary

Hi, I'm just closing up an SPI case in which the evidence centered around strange edits on Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary. You semi-protected Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary for a month but the gaps in the weird edits are often much longer, like Jan - Jun this year. A longer period of protection might be needed. Thanks, Cabayi (talk) 20:13, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, Cabayi. That investigation looked like a monster to handle; lucky you! From the history I see that there are bursts of vandalism from newly-created users, separated by weeks or months. As you-all speculated, it could be school related; judging from some of the edits, it could even be that kids are encouraged to comment at Wikipedia following a field trip there. That suggests it will keep happening. Here are the options: I can't semi-protect for a really long period - years, or indef - for that kind of spotty record. I could give it PC protection for a year or longer; PC is kind of a pain because every bad edit has to be manually reverted, but I see the page has 44 watchers so that is feasible. And we are allowed to use PC for much longer periods of time than semi. Here's what I will do: I will leave the one-month semi-protection in place, and add 2 years of PC on top of it. I will also put the page on my watchlist, so that I can reconsider if I see it isn't working. -- MelanieN (talk) 20:34, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. Cabayi (talk) 20:50, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Sweetheart deal

On 29 September 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sweetheart deal, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a 2008 plea bargain to settle criminal charges against financier Jeffrey Epstein has been described as a sweetheart deal? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sweetheart deal. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Sweetheart deal), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Thanks. Both are now blocked, but only one was recognized as a sock. In the future you should probably notify administrator NJA when you see this going on. NJA is the administrator who is most familiar with this case. The case is filed under the name Trefoil13 -[16] - but people can still find it if you say Jjik43. -- MelanieN (talk) 21:55, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
