Discretionary Sanctions Notification - Gender and Sexuality

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in gender-related disputes or controversies or in people associated with them. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

  • That's ok, I will imply there is a problem. You might want to avoid gender related articles until you are up to speed on the consensus view on Wikipedia, because doing more of the edits you just did, this will get you blocked. It isn't about my opinion, or any single opinion, it is the consensus view at Wikipedia. If you can't comply with that consensus, don't edit in those areas. June 2022

Information icon Hello, I'm BusterD. I noticed that you recently removed content from Juramentado without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Sally Ride Edit

Hello Mcklunky. I saw your edits on the Sally Ride page, where you made good-faith changes to the wording to identify her as a lesbian. Sally Ride never called herself a lesbian, and where possible we defer to how people self-identify. In Lynn Sherr's biography of Ride, done with cooperation of Ride's partner Tam, Tam explains: "We never publicly said, 'We're gay.' We didn't like labels of any kind, but especially the ones referring to sexuality: queer, lesbian, homosexual." In addition, Ride's only legal marriage was to a man. Naturally a woman being married to a man doesn't make her a straight or bisexual, there are plenty of same-gender attracted people who were stuck in heteronormative marriages. However, since Ride isn't alive anymore to explain whether she had romantic feelings for the man she married and the other men she dated, we opted for the more general and vague LGBTQ+ label. A lot of this was discussed and deliberated on the Sally Ride talk page. You appear to be relatively new to Wikipedia, so I'd recommend in general looking at the Talk page for any article you're going to edit before making a change to see if the topic has been brought up and so you can understand the history of the edits. That said, I can tell it was a good-faith edit, no harm was meant. I want to encourage you to keep editing! Sevey13 (talk) 02:47, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mage & Demon Queen edit

I saw your edits on the Mage & Demon Queen page, where you argued that a story is "not yuri because the other main chara has a penis" and said that "yuri = lesbians". As it states on the yuri (genre) page, yuri does not necessarily mean that characters are lesbians, stating "while lesbianism is a commonly associated theme, the genre is also inclusive of works depicting emotional and spiritual relationships between women that are not necessarily romantic or sexual in nature." In terms of lesbians, you are right that "lesbians are homoSEXual women attracted to the same SEX" but this does not exclude trans women. Additionally, a "r-18 chapter that looked like a side chapter in her patreon", as you described it, would not be a reliable source anyhow, and the author herself has said the webtoon is yuri. As such, I'd say its an open and shut case when it comes to the comic being yuri. Personally, I think a discussion on this topic would not be fruitful.
