Move?

Why is this project still in userspace? I find it worthy of being in wiki-space, rather than simply a redirect from wiki-space. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 22:14, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Urgh!!

You're replacing "comprises of X Y and Z" with "comprises X Y and Z"?

That's absolutely horrible "English"! Please tell me this is a bug! What next, "Couldn't care less" being translated to "Could care less"? *shudder* Squiggleslash 03:41, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I am replacing "comprises of X Y and Z" with "comprises X Y and Z".
The expression "comprises of" is not English, as far as I know. The English dictionaries I've looked at define comprise using words like "contain, consist of, include", so this shows how to use comprises:
  • the shopping centre contains a cinema, many large shops and a restaurant
  • the shopping centre consists of a cinema, many large shops and a restaurant
  • the shopping centre includes a cinema, many large shops and a restaurant
  • the shopping centre comprises a cinema, many large shops and a restaurant
For a quick check, try typing "define:comprise" into Google.
I think some confusion arises because people mix "comprises" with "consists of".
I'm sorry to hear that you find the correct usage "horrible". I'll be happy to change my mind if you'd like to point me to a reputable dictionary that recommends the use of "comprises of". Otherwise, I guess you'll get used to it... - Cheers :) - Euchiasmus 06:59, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The error I have been stamping out is:
  • the shopping centre is comprised of a cinema, many large shops and a restaurant.
which I suppose is confusion with "is composed of". Please don't change it to "boasts"!--BillFlis 19:07, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

links and images

Can this tool exclude making fixes within external link and image tags? Anything that's in [http: ] and [[Image:]]. Making changes to external links, such as capitalizing makes the link dead. Same with images. GfloresTalk 15:35, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't actually a tool, it's just a list of find and replace settings for use in AutoWikiBrowser and wikEd. I think AWB ignores such instances, but I don't know about wikEd. If you have a diff of an example of this you are best contacting the developers of the relevant tool. mattbr 17:16, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Error checker for RegExTypoFix?

Hi, found an error at line 259. s/4/$. This probably happens a lot but should be preventable because the number for should never be in the xml unless it's $4. --85.220.42.78 23:54, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
