I'm starting to believe that Tijuana Brass is deliberately trying to stop any fact on this subject. Not sure why? Hope you're not racist???? Matt Norman 01:58, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Matt Norman, born in 1971 Australia has been acting for the past 12 years on film, television and stage. Since the year 2000 Matt has been gaining momentum as an international award winning film maker with film that include; The Writer, The Umbrella Men, All the kings horses and Shank. Recently Matt Norman has been working on the feature length film Salute - The Peter Norman story which is set to be released in 2007. Matt Norman is Peter Norman's nephew. Sadly Peter Norman died on the 3rd of October 2006 before he had a chance to see the film unfold around the World.

This film will again shape history. It will be known as the last tribute to three men who stood for more than American civil rights but for Human and Civil rights from around the World. Matt says "To tribute someone you love you should follow in their footsteps to look after those matters that can no longer be looked after". More information on Matt Norman's story can be found at Salute - The Peter Norman Story

Warning

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. Tijuana Brass 01:38, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the warning

Please stop deleting appropriate external links to wikipedia. The links that have been added are not only appropriate but are also relevant to the wikipedia dialogue that has been added about Peter Norman, Tommie Smith and John Carlos. No matter what you believe you know about this story, I suggest you re look at who and why I am adding simple external links to the feature film webpage that gives wikipedia readers sources to study this information properly. If anyone knows these three people it's me. I am Peter's nephew and the director/producer of the film "Salute - The Peter Norman Story". With a budget of over two million dollars, i'm sure i'm qualified to add a link to the true story of these three men. Don't you???? Matt Norman. Matt Norman 01:55, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion review

Matt, I would be glad to discuss Wikipedia policy and how it applies to your movie here on your talk page rather than via email. That way, others may join in the discussion if necessary, and it will maintain a record of our conversation.

Rather than going into a lengthy explanation about deletion policy and how it relates to your movie, I'm going to copy part of a conversation I had with User:Filmnews2007, who claimed to be a reporter who had interviewed you concerning the film. He posted the same external links that you did, along with an article on the movie itself. All were deleted due to violations of Wikipedia policy. The following is my explanation to him, which, for the most part, will also answer your question.

First, let me explain what the deletion process is, in case you're not aware of how it works. As you may already know, the consensus at Deletion Review was to move the article to an AfD (which stands for Articles for Deletion). The AfD page, along with an introduction on how it works and why articles are added to it, is located here; the specific section on the Norman article is here. The difference between the two is that the Deletion Review is to examine an article which has already been deleted, whereas an AfD is to see if an article should be deleted. The general agreement was that a speedy deletion, one without the input of concerned Wikipedia editors, was too hasty — at an AfD, more input is allowed. For the next few days, editors may add their input. You are welcome to do so as well, but beforehand, please read a couple guidelines located here, which explains what are considered valid reasons to endorse or oppose deletion (for example, saying "Don't delete this because I personally know the subject of the article" is a common reason given, but it doesn't assert that the person in question is of encyclopedic importance).
Now, to get at what you've mentioned on my talk page, I understand what you're telling me about Matt Norman. His movie sounds interesting — I'd personally like to see it, myself — and it's certainly on an important subject, Peter Norman. In the future, it may very well be influential. Those reasons alone, however, are not enough to meet the standards of notability here. For starters, an article about an important person isn't important in and of itself, nor is a family relationship to that person. I don't necessarily disagree that the movie may become important, but until such time that it is, there's only speculation that it will be, and that too is not notable (in an encyclopedic sense). Finally, there seems to be a conflict of interest here in that you seem to have done some research of your own without quoting independent, subjective, and authoritative sources — and you do seem to have a promotional interest in the movie. Both of these are against Wikipedia policy.
My suggestion, then, is this: wait for a while. Allow the movie to be released, let it build up some independent reviews. Once those are available, and editors can write from a more independent, neutral perspective, we can work with this article some more, and I'd expect it to remain. In the meantime, you can request that the text of the article as it is written now be preserved in your userspace (in other words, as something of a subset of your personal account here at Wikipedia) — that way you can refer to it a few months down the road when it's ready to be an article. In the meantime, you'd have ample opportunity to pick up some of the ins and outs of editing here, and by better understanding policy and procedure, produce a great article (or articles) in the future.

The blue links in the text above will take you to some pages explain those policies in further detail. There are also some helpful suggestions at Wikipedia:Introduction and Wikipedia:Your first article.

Concerning your relation with User:Filmnews2007, you both have similar editing patterns, suggesting that this may be a second account of that user, which is called a sockpuppet. The use of multiple accounts on Wikipedia is not allowed except in special cases. For now, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt when you tell me that you're not the same person, and I've removed the tag from the top of this talk page as a courtesy.

Please read through the above policies to better understand what is acceptable material for use here. Feel free to ask any questions that you may have.

One last thing. You'll find that people here will be a lot more helpful and friendly if you keep a cool head. Accusing others of racism and threatening a "public spat" won't win you any favors. We all do this on a volunteer, unpaid basis — so please be courteous.

Good luck with your movie. Tijuana Brass 04:40, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
