Are you a paid editor with a conflict of interest?
Hello Macannihilator. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. I made a few minor revisions to make the tone even more encyclopedic, but I scrutinized it in search of "promotional" or "self-referential" material, and found none. If you can point to something specific, I'll happily fix it, but I teach college and high school history and English and am accustomed to detecting and eliminating bias in written works. I have compared this article to articles on scientists of similar standing, and the only significant difference is that this one is missing the standard scientist biographical infobox. Coan *is* notable; aside from attracting press coverage, his research is cited in every introductory college psych textbook published since the late '90s. (I know, because I taught psychology from 1996-2009, and my wife is now majoring in psychology.) Wikipedia editors did well to catch Coan contributing to his own article, though it was just innocent infobox material. He did the right thing by removing the material at your request. Time to unflag?~~~~
