Thanks for uploading Image:TelephonePlug.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Twisted pair
I was briefly involved in telephone lines in France in the 1970's and I believe they had another way of building twisted pair lines before the times of the insulated pair.
Posts with vertical-aligned insulators alternated with posts with horizontal aligned insulators. At every post, the line was twisted 1/4 turn. This way maintained wire distance and so, a 600 ohm line impedance (which is not the case with transposition at each post). I thought this method was universal. Do you have any more information about the transposition method that your picture shows?
Up to 40 twisted pairs could run in this way in a complex pairing arrangement, along the railway tracks. I am also looking for sources about the omnibus (service) lines, which was, as I recall, a special unaffected twisted pair unaffected to the autoswitcher running on a distinctive position (lowest and out of the running mass of 80 copper wires).

The pole-top wire transposition was common practice in the US during the early telephone years. No doubt other methods, just as effective, or even superior, were used in other countries. LoopTel (talk) 08:26, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
