Hi, Khelnor, Welcome to Wikipedia!
Hello, bonjour, namaste, konichiwa, shalom, hola, salve, sala'am, bonjourno, and hi! I'm Noble Eagle. Seeing as you are a new user on wikipedia and/or do not have any messages on your talk page and/or are making good contributions through your IP Address, I just thought I'd pop in and give you a handful of links that should help you be a better Wikipedian.

Though we all make small insignificant mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not, but if you want it in a nutshell, it's an encyclopaedia that counts on facts . It is the wish of most of us Wikipedians that Wikipedia become the greatest source of factual information on the internet, you can be part of that. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful.

If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you. Here are a few links to get you started:

And remember:
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.
    • P.S. I'm happy to help new users. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need help with anything or simply wish to say hello. :)
    • P.P.S. Remember, if you know any facts, just add it! Don't hesitate!

Great power paragraph

Hi, this is CRGreathouse from the Great power article. I wanted to discuss the changes you made to the paragraph about the US and the Soviet Union. Here it is, so it's not lost in page revisions:

Since the Second World War, the United States and Soviet Union ascended to superpower-status. After the dissolution of the USSR, the newly formed Russian Federation emerged on the level of a great power, leaving the United States as the sole percieved superpower in a unipolar world—despite Russia's inheritance, as the legal successor state to the Soviet Union, of many of the Soviet Union's superpower capabilities. This ended the bipolar world order that has existed throughout the Cold War, although the idea of the unipolar world is being challenged by the concept of the multipolar world where no nation has overwhelming influence over other major powers.

This is an interesting point and important point to make in an article. In fact I don't think a paragraph does it justice: it could use its own section and references. For example, I am of the opinion that the word is not headed toward/in a traditional multipolar world, but a tripolar one. Wilkinson (1999) has an excellent article on this in International Studies Review. I'd love to help with this some time.

However, I don't think it has a place in this article. Superpower would be a better place, and other articles might lend themselves to this discussion as well. For the purpose of the Great power article, though, the US is a Great power, and discussion as to its superpower status is not relevant except as a clarification that it could be both superpower and great power. (Actually I don't see the word used that way--I see the two as exclusive--but that's why I say for the purpose of the article.) As a result I did remove your changes to the paragraph.

In any case, if you'd like to get something started with that--even if only in your userspace until you decide which article is best--drop me a line on my Talk page and I'll see what I can do.

Wikipedia Stories Project

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"

Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.

This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.

If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!

Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project, or if you know someone else with whom I should speak.

Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, please ask! I will answer as soon as I can. I apologize for any poor translation of this letter, I am using Google-translate. I hope it makes you laugh :)

Thank you for your time,

Victor Grigas

Victor Grigas
