Women in Red

Hi there, KRKwrites, and welcome to Women in Red. I'm glad you took up my invitation to join as you will now be able to benefit more directly from our activities. I realize you have had difficulty in following all the background information on Wikipedia but we have a summary of the essentials in connection with women's biographies in our Ten Simple Rules. I see you have quite a bit more to add to your draft of Abigail Larson but just let me know when you think it's ready for main space and I'll see how it looks. I hope that this will be the first of many more biographies of women as you are progressing very well. Please let me know if you run into any further difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:53, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much! I'm just finishing up a couple of lists and am planning to move into mainspace today. If you have any thoughts to share I'd certainly really appreciate hearing them! :) KRKwrites (talk) 21:48, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your first article

Thank you very much, KRKwrites, for all the time and effort you have spent on your first article Abigail Larson. It's now on main space and I've given it a B rating as it contains lots of detail and is well sourced. I hope this will be the first of many more, whether or not under specific assignments. Please let me know if ever I can help you again. Happy editng!--Ipigott (talk) 08:00, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

While double-checking the article, I noticed you had specifically introduced British rather than Canadian/American spellings for colour/watercolour and centres but have left American spellings of honor/honorable. As the subject of the article is American, I would suggest you use American spelling.--Ipigott (talk) 10:21, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch, thank you! We put U's in words like colour here in Canada, so just force of habit. I will go through and correct when I have a moment. KRKwrites (talk) 15:11, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can "correct" it either for Canadian with -our or American -or. As the subject is American, I would suggest you go for American. That will make it easier for future contributors.--Ipigott (talk) 17:02, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Have you considered nominating the article for GA or FA? I am not an expert, but it seems like it could pass. QuicoleJR (talk) 21:47, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to respond to this a whole month later, but I wanted to thank you for the suggestion - I managed to get the article to GA status, based on your recommendation :) KRKwrites (talk) 20:23, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! Glad I could help, even if it was only giving the idea. QuicoleJR (talk) 21:04, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Editor's Barnstar
We don't normally give these to newbies, however your article for your assignment for INF1005: Education and Outreach at the University of Toronto's iSchool is well above what Women in Red expect from new contributors. Impressive work and you attracted serious help and collaboration which is exactly how Wikipedia is created. Well done Victuallers (talk) 16:34, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I don't want to formally pick up the GA review for this article right now, but I thought I would point out a few prose things that you might want to address while you're waiting. 1: the lead is much shorter than a typical GA. If that's all you think is relevant for the lead, it might be a sign that there isn't actually much real content in the article. Maybe you can say something more about her style? 2: the "career" section in particular looks like a list of things she's done rather than a narrative summary. Like #1, this also makes me a bit wary that there's no "there" there. You've got a pretty thorough-looking list of credits at the end of the article, maybe some of the less-important items can be moved there? Or they could be grouped together thematically?

Good luck with it, and welcome! -- asilvering (talk) 18:25, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

TYSM for the feedback! I was rushing a little to get the article up, and there's more I want to add about style in particular, so maybe I can use some of that to strengthen the lead.
With the "career" section, I was kind of trying to show the breadth/diversity of her projects and highlight the most notable or interesting ones (bc she kind of has a lot of credits to her name LOL), which I considered to be her own book (Crimson), her work with Netflix, her work with Mike Mignola, and her work with Evanescence. So maybe I can trim it down a bit and use reviews to beef up the article/demonstrate the significance of those projects? KRKwrites (talk) 14:20, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, that all sounds good. You definitely want to mention her solo art book! If there are any reviews of it it would be great to add those, but make sure they're post-publication, professional reviews, not the kinds of blurbs people wrote while it was being kickstarted. Since it was a self-pub that might be hard to do, though. Basically, the more you manage to form the article into something summative/descriptive rather than "a CV in sentences instead of bullet points", the better off you'll be heading into a GAN. -- asilvering (talk) 16:52, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see you got this through to GA! Congrats! -- asilvering (talk) 16:49, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Abigail Larson

On 3 April 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Abigail Larson, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Canadian League for Peace and Democracy organized a 10,000-person rally at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto to protest a 2,500-person fascist rally? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Abigail Larson. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Abigail Larson), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hahah, I don't think that fact matches the article :'D but this is very exciting, thank you! KRKwrites (talk) 22:59, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
